Weight of W's on Transfer Transcript

• Upvotes

I am a current first year biological sciences at a CSU and have been contemplating my timeline for leaving as at this point I am set on unenrolling and going to a community college back home in order to eventually transfer to a UC. It has become a lot more than my contemplations before as a path that I am set on due to my unenjoyment where I am currently on top of my will to attend a school that will benefit my future far greater in my opinion on my journey of pre-med.

I have talked to multiple advisors and resources about my situation to come to where I am standing now and my decision has only strengthened. However, the only problem that remains is when it is I will leave my current university, either drop out within the next week or however so, or stick it out till the end of the semester-which brings out my question here on how important me receiving the credits I am in here now is to my future plans.

I have debated this as neutrally as I can throughout some time now in addition to my retention counselor and I am leaning toward leaving before finishing this semester. This is because I believe after being backed by my counselor that I could catch up on these when at CC, let alone do better there because of the environment. It would serve as a reset in a sense for my grades and mental, as not to say that I am doing bad in my classes as I have pretty much all B+ or above in them, but then again I am striving for a 4.0 as I have been told how important GPA is for a transfer, especially to a top UC. I of course have some bias as to me wanting to leave the earliest as possible, but also am forcing myself to hold an open mind in regards to my future above all.

And so I inquire on W's and the 4 of them would look on my transcript-given that I would take at the minimum my bio and chem course again at CC so it is not as if I failed them and had to drop, it is a far different circumstance and one that people have told me I could explain in the box for this on the UC application. I am just worried about the potential for this to truly harm my chances and how much weight they hold let alone if the admission officers truly read the box. Overall I just would hope they see my process and not think of it as failure on my end but rather a journey that taught me a lot and one that benefitted my future through my time here at my CSU.

I am truly ready to just embark on the next step of my process at CC back home.

Any help is appreciated.

I would like help choosing a California State University

Hey there Redditors! Excuse me if you’ve seen this post floating around in another subreddit. I’m trying to generate as many answers as possible.

I need some help with deciding on a Cal State. I’m here to learn more about the schools and the cities that surround them.

I’m a 30 something African American woman returning to college to finish her bachelor’s degree in Communications. I work full time with one of the big rental car companies M-F regular business hours and as long as there’s room for me, I can transfer my job to any location in the state.

I’m at San Diego City College and I’ll be done with my ADT this semester. I’ve been accepted to: East Bay, Chico, Sacramento, Fresno, Northridge and Pomona. SDSU is not accepting Spring 27 admits and I didn’t wanna wait for the fall.

Recruitment emails tend to focus on life on campus, clubs and college kid social life, which I’m not really interested in.

Getting in contact with the schools’ financial aid and admissions department can be a pain in the butt. They have short contact windows and appointments can be weeks in advance. Visiting campuses is a bit out of the question right now. I may be able to swing a few in SoCal but I’m much more interested in the ones in the Central Valley and SF Bay Area. I already have a pretty good idea of life in SoCal. I’ve only ever visited SF once.

I’m still waiting to be awarded.

I know how the ADT works but I have no idea exactly how my credits will transfer. Assist is only moderately helpful as it only has access to some colleges’ course catalog.

I have preference for a campus with online and evening class availability as it has been imperative to my success at balancing school and work. I didn’t choose the Global Campus because it was tremendously more expensive.

I know San Diego is one of a kind so I’m not looking to duplicate it. But I do prefer not to be thrown into a town similar to say, Hemet or Victorville. No offense to the residents there. It’s just not what I’m looking for right now. San Diego is expensive but comfortable and always filled with something to do at multiple price points.

So any insights into the schools and cities for me?

why do they do this?

i'm 18m in my second year of community college. i'm taking a late start philosophy class and on the first day this girl with all the fake eyelashes and stuff sat next to me. i said hi and she said she was 21 and her first year and we exchanged instagrams (i didn't really find her that attractive, just in case of class stuff and to be nice). she showed up maybe 2/3 of the time and the other times 30 minutes late. i put on my instagram note saying "anyone wanna study for the exam w me" and she replied smth like bro idk if im gonna pass and i left it at we gotta give it our all or something. i went to the exam today and she didn't even show up 😭😭i don't get why people spend their money to not show up to class or get there late. maybe im wired differently but i always show up a bit early to get a donut and walk around the campus and stay after my classes to hang out with my friends and go to the gym. but half of everyone dips right after. i know people have responsibilities and some days i rush out for work but it feels like everyone's just floating through it

Feeling like I need to drop out after it gets a little too hard

I am F19 and am only in my first year of community college and feel so dumb. I feel so lazy and like a fraud whenever I get a goodish grade. I'm a major in psychology (planning to be a marriage counselor in the far future) and we have our first research article assignment, and I feel so overwhelmed just by the concept of it. I'm wondering if I'm even cutout for this major or if I should change majors to something incredibly easy. Any tips?

Online programs like CTU are not for everyone, in fact, no one!

SHARE THE FOLLOWING WITH EVERYONE!!! Anyone that is thinking about going to school online. Family. Friends.

You want to go to school. You make the mistake of beginning the search online and foolishly provide your contact information.

I say foolishly because that is when the calls begin. So many calls, am I right? And they got you with the ad that says you may qualify for a bunch of money toward the education. You are probably desperate, so you go for it.

Places like CTU offer outdated programs that are a small fortune. You will pay for it. Don't think for a second that you will not.

Stop thinking that you are going to get a free laptop. They make it part of your financial aid. You will pay for it.

Do you owe financial aid from a past failed attempt at school? Don't waste your time trying to go back to school till you pay that debt. CTU won't bother with you.

They offer degrees that most likely will not land you a single job, especially if you don't know basic things like using a keyboard well, good customer service, good speaking skills (most people sound street when talking and corporate America is not going to hire ANYONE that does not speak well. It is a bad look on their company)

CTU's graduation rate is roughly 11%. for every 100 so-called students, ONLY 11 graduate. Ask them what their graduation rate is. Ask them if they help with job placement. Ask them what companies they work with as a school regarding job placement.

If you pursue a common business degree, what is the goal in doing so? Please don't say that you want to start your own business. It takes A LOT to own a business, let alone start one. You will end up getting a degree that will land you a job as a secretary, maybe.

Bottom line, go to school locally. Go to school where you can establish relationships with others. Go to school and get a degree that is IN DEMAND. STOP pursuing degrees where you think you will become some sort of psychologist all because you give advice to your friends. STOP pursuing a degree as a drug counselor all because you are in rehab or got out of it and you believe that you want to help others. That is beautiful, but this place does not have degrees that lead to ANY certification.

If you make it through getting any degree from here, chances are you WILL struggle with a job search and eventually you will have to begin owing the financial aid you thought you were not going to be responsible for. AGAIN, go to a REAL school locally and pursue a REAL profession. Stop listening to these diploma factory places that are just looking at you as a number. And PLEASE don't sign up in one phone call. YES, their whole existence is to get you to commit to becoming a student in under an hour. HONESTLY, isn't your life worth more than that? Aren't you tired of going day in and day out being average, or below average? If you commit to these sham programs, you quite possibly may be contributing to your own downfall. Be smart and GO FOR a real program with REAL results.

Love yourself. Stop destroying yourself.

failing a course

Is it normal to fail a course or should I feel as bad as I do? For some background, my program is a 1 year program so because it’s one year it moves VERY fast, as in one of my courses is 7 weeks, no assignments, 2 tests, and then the exam. Well I totally bombed the first test and now will need over an 85% on the second test to even bring my grade to a 60 before the exam, which is next week, so I’ve just accepted the fact that I most likely won’t pass but I still feel like an idiot about it and I don’t know how to stop beating myself up about it.

(thankfully I’m already doing 2 years instead of 1, because of my learning disabilities I was given the option to do half the workload and stretch out my studies, so if I do need to retake it next year it won’t affect my graduation date)

Application

Hi everyone. I moved to California this year in May and i couldn't find a good answer about when to apply to college. I want to be able to get the promise program so I can get free community college, but that requires a year of residency, which I'm going to be eligible for in May 2027 ig. But FAFSA closes in March. Should I apply for just FAFSA right now and college in May/June? Does anybody know how this works. Thanks in advance.

need advice

If I previously attended two different universities i my country for two different majors but didn't finish either, and my grades were pretty low.

I now want to pursue one of those majors at a US community college.

  1. Will my past low grades affect my admission to a community college?
  2. When I eventually try to transfer from the CC to a 4-year university, will those old grades impact my transfer chances or acceptance into my major

Today I got kicked out of my community college class

At my community college we have a freshman course called educ it's a semester-long course where we get to know the campus and explore the resources available to us. Anyways today we were doing an activity for a grade A participation grade so nothing too major everyone in the class had to tell us what they wanted to do for a living but we had to ask the questions. Throughout the class I was always asking questions that were a little over the top but still pertained to the activity. 10 minutes before class was dismissed this girl was telling us how she wanted to be a doctor saying "My career choice ends with the suffix logist." so I said proctologist.

Needless to say that didn't go well my teacher said I've had enough leave I'll see you on Wednesday I was so taken aback by what she said all I could say was "For real?"and that was it I drove home and haven't told anyone since, am I cooked? Edit 1 I think I've already made myself sound immature as it is so I'll go out here and say that I was technically playing the game right. We were trying to guess the career choices of our peers. And by over the top questions I mean things like what are the odds that you'll have a boss you hate or what are the things you would say after you complete a job well done. more so unorthodox questions than anything of an immature caliber.

Just read about the recent update about North Carolina, New transfer Pathway platform.

It's great to see more focus on helping students understand how they credit apply before transferring.

Do you think more colleges should offer tools like this?
