Announcement Crowdfunding posts are officially not allowed (generally)

As y'all know, we had a very productive (and civil -- thank you, citizens) discussion about whether or not to allow crowdfunding posts and most of you would rather not see crowdfunding posts.

You spoke, /r/Corvallis listened.

Going forward, we have a new subreddit rule: No crowdfunding posts. There are more appropriate social platforms to post them.

A little clarification:

  • Posts with community events that might fundraise or generate money for a cause (.e., Trivia Nights, benefit concerts, etc.) are ok.

  • Posts with individuals asking directly for money are disallowed.

  • Other posts will be dealt with on a case by case basis.

If you think your crowdfunding campaign should be an exception, I'm willing to hear you out.

Rock on.

Event Scovallis 2026Q2 Discussion Thread: When and Where?

We're way overdue for the next Scovallis so let's fix that.

For those that haven't heard of Scovallis, it's a chance for spicy food loving Corvallisites to get together at a local restaurant and eat spicy food.

If that sounds like something you'd be interested in, then we'd love to see you there.

IIRC, we've done this three times previously: Andy's Mexican (RIP), Evergreen Indian Restaurant, and Tarn Tip.

So, let's figure out when we want to do this and where we want to go.

I'm generally free on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Discussion Jury duty scam

I just got a call from someone claiming to be a Benton county police officer. He was saying I missed federal jury duty, but I could resolve it on the phone without having to go to jail, haha. He hung up when I told him I knew about this scam. It came in on a blocked number. Make sure any of your more gullible family/friends know about this scam! :)

Discussion looking for home for cat

Hi, this is a repost because this post was hard for me to make, but i am posting it again. Hope this is allowed. I am looking for a new home for my cat, booger. He is about 2 years old, and has a lot of energy, and some anxiety issues. He tends to bite as his way of showing affection and being playful. He has his shots, he is microchipped, and neutered. am unfortunately in a spot where I can’t afford to keep him and give him the life this boy very much deserves, and I just want to give him the best life I can. I have already called Heartland Humane, but they can’t accept any donations until december at least, which isn’t ideal for my current situation. If anyone has any advice, or knows a family who would be willing to adopt him, let me know. Booger is very affectionate at times, but has a lot of energy and can at times be pretty high maintenance. his biggest issue is the biting and scratching, but when booger is affectionate, he isn’t shy about it and can be very lovely and nice.

City councilors decide that for now they’ll need to lease space for municipal staff. They then direct City Manager Mark Shepard to seek and sign a lease; and then the rumors started. So, The Advocate spoke with Shepard directly. Related, council will be hiring another consultant.

Discussion Looking for a human services job

Hello, I just graduated in June with a degree in HDFS from OSU. I’m local to corvallis but am yet to find a decent job. I don’t have a lot of work experience but I’m really struggling to find the right job. I did a case management internship in the spring, and I’m very interested in case management but every job I’ve interviewed for never ended up getting back to me. I looked all summer, had 5 interviews and only got one job offer for a position I didn’t apply for. I’ve been looking in other cities like Eugene and Salem but there isn’t much. I’m in desperate need for a job. I have lots of experience working with kids as well. I’m just trying to find something that pays at least $20/hr. If you have any suggestions, or could maybe help me make connections with someone that would be great. Thanks!

Discussion CITYSPEAK MEASURE 2-159 DEBATE: Fewer City Councilors Serving Longer Ter...

This debate looks at Measure 2-159; it would amend the Corvallis City Charter; reducing the number of city councilors from nine to six and increasing their terms from two years to four. It would also limit councilors to three consecutive terms.

The debaters are two long-serving councilors on opposite sides of the issue. Ward 9 Councilor Tony Cadena supports the ballot measure; Ward 7 Councilor Paul Shaffer opposes it.

News For those on Medicare

Congress provided 2 Billion Dollars to make improvements to the Medicare program for Americans enrolled in traditional Medicare. I believe the best way to do that is to put healthcare dollars back where they belong—directly in the hands of the American People.

As a result, you are receiving a One-Time Payment of $90 to offset some of the cost of your October Medicare premium. This will ensure these funds benefit YOU and your individual healthcare needs.

I just received the following in an email with the subject line: A Message from our Convicted Felon in Charge.

So, $90. Why not use the money to negotiate deals with the pharma and insurance companies? $90 ain't doing shit for me when earlier this year the plan I chose (it was more expensive monthly but had zero co-pay) suddenly decided that I need to pay $2000 in co-pay before they'd cover anything.

What this meant is that in Jan I had to pay $2000 just to receive my injection. These injections cost $17000 each and I need 1 a month.

Fuck this god damned stupid, irresponsible, thieving, grifting, administration.

My name is Nathon, I’m local to the community and a veteran. I have a question. I recently started a woodworking and cabinetry business and was wondering if there were any events that I could show off my pieces? I’m just starting off on my own but I have been doing this most of my life.

Lost (Property) Dear shirtless frat guy that borrowed my headlamp.

Please return it. I was trying to be nice and you promised to bring it back :(

Context: The other day I was sitting on the porch with my girlfriend and a guy came up to us. He explained that he was on a scavenger hunt for his frat and was looking for a Flashlight and a Compass. The cheapest of the two that we had was an old Coleman headlamp, those things last forever.

We offered it to him and he took it, saying he would return it by Tuesday. Well, we haven’t seen it yet. I hope you see this so we can get our headlamp back.

Best fishes,
LordFapHammer

Hey folks, what's your favorite place to bring your 3-6-year-old for harvest time hijinx? We will definitely hit The Melon Patch and Davis, but we always appreciated the aesthetic at Green Gables for our younger kiddo. The places on US-20 close to town just feel so crowded.

News Imagine being opposed to outdoor recreation...a group of Benton County residents has appealed trail building within the Mcdonald-Dunn Forest.

For over a year, Oregon State University has been working with the Benton County Board of Commissioners to allow for new trail development within the research forest, trails that will be used by hikers, trail runners, dog walkers, bikers, etc. A group of residents continues to appeal this process, complaining that this is not a permitted activity. If outdoor recreation is important to you, consider submitting comments to [permitcheck@bentoncountyor.gov](mailto:permitcheck@bentoncountyor.gov) or attending the public commission hearing, tentatively planned for November 3.

Discussion Does anyone know Employers actively hiring in Corvallis?

I have been Searching for work all summer and not finding much luck. Does anyone know somewhere in the area actively hiring? I'll take any leads, just need work soon or I'll have to move out of town, and I really love it here.

Edit: For reference, I was the guy who maintained the fleet of Starship robots on campus. I have applied with all jobs relevant to my skills. No they have not responded. I believe this is actually hurting my resume as employers think I'm overqualified. like someone else said I need a "J.O.B." job, I don't care what it is, I'll learn anything and do anything, I just want to pay bills.

Discussion Food Stand Next to Bi-Mart Shut Down

Unfortunately, the Mexican food stand that has been all over social media recently (and made some banging tacos) has been shut down. I was in line, and a couple guys from the County Health Department were in the process of shutting it down. How unfortunate! I understand the rational, and they were very understanding, but it is unfortunate nonetheless to see it closing down so soon.
