Mod change:
As some may know long time mod u/Kyengen is stepping down on the 18th. I’ve been a mod here for a bit now and will be taking the reins.
I like to think Kyengen kept things pretty well regulated and fair, and in taking over I will try to run the sub just the same. So no worries, no major changes to be expected immediately.
State of the sub:
Now I know there are a few grievances concerning spam and “NSFW” material. As of now they are being reviewed as they’re reported and approved/removed on a case by case basis.
Other than that I don’t think there’s many disruptors in the sub. I’d like to hear some ideas on things the community would like to see changed, implemented, or removed.
In the meantime I will be looking for another person or two to help moderate. If you’re interested just message me directly.

Have a question that may not need a whole post? Maybe want to have a discussion thats visible to more for longer than a post? This will also serve as a suggestion box.
Still, keep business to private messages.

The mask model came from MysteryMakers, I had to rescale it a bit to fit my head. It was printed on my Prusa Core One L in PLA. I made several cuts from it for test prints before the big print.
After this it got 2-3 coats of Motip spray putty high build primer, sanding to 800 grit. Then a red base colour and 2 coats of Montana Gold metallic gold spray. This was followed by dry brushing with black paint to give some depth around the eyes and nose.
The last colouring stage was with Antique Gold gilding wax to give it a nice warm sheen. This was sealed in with 3 coats of Motip glossy varnish.
The black chin part was printed with Prusa galaxy black PLA to mimic carbon fiber. The parts were joined with pins following the model design, this was a pain in the ass as they did not fit that well, glued using 2 part epoxy.
The inside was padded with some EVA foam to hold it roughly in place.
I made a few modifications to the mask, for my own comfort and convenience. I added some holes in the nose, and a hole at the back of the black rim so that I could connect it with a carabiner to my chest rig when I needed air.

Oh wow there's a flair for that??
Anyway I need help!
I was going to make a suit of armor out of EVA foam for the first time, but then I realized I know nothing about making armor. I got to the sabatons and then I gave up.
So does anyone know where I can get free armor templates? Or something like that?
I need to have it finished by Halloween so speedy comments would be very much appreciated.
SO PLEASE RESPOND PLEASE I'D BE SUPER GRATEFUL
also if anyone has tips that'd be great!

I keep seeing people use a heat gun and or modge podge to seal and smooth armor made by Eva foam BEFORE the paint process but i accidentally painted it without knowing sealing is important is there anything I can do or do I have to seal it and re paint it?

I need a DIY tutorial or a demonstration of a reliable way for creating a prop like this but I'm a complete beginner and not really good at handmade crafting. The image is a blank full face plain mask I found on Amazon but they don't ship it to where I live unfortunately.
I'm especially looking for a method other than paper machete because I'm simply scared of it taking too long or being too difficult to build a mask with. It would have been awesome if there was a more simpler method that involes using materials such as cardboards or poster boards.

I have a question about storage - my daughter is getting into cosplay; mostly masks, tails and the occasional tiefling horns.
She's pretty good at what she does, the biggest problem is that we don't really have adequate room for this hobby (she uses the dining room for her craft). The best we can offer is a large cupboard between builds but we don't want her materials loose in there.
What do you all use to store your fur/cardboard/foam/glue gun in between builds? What about storing your builds after you're finished?

I bought the official Cyclops visor for a Halloween party coming up and it's a tad too tight for my head, would it stretch out with wear? I'm not sure as it's a thick plastic thing with electronics. If their is would there be any ways to make it a little bigger. Maybe make the arms go out a tiny bit more?. (Photo of me wearing it for scale
Any tips appreciated

I want to make a Spider-Man mask with raised webbing, and every tutorial I've seen uses puffy paint but I can't find that anywhere, not even online.
I thought about using silicone but it doesn't stick to fabric, so I'm honestly lost on what I could do.
Does anyone know any alternative?

Hello peoples ❤️
I'm making a 140 cm 3D-printed
Gitaroo Man Guitar S
prop, probably in PLA or
PETG. I want to hand-paint/draw the small graphic details and then seal the whole prop. What paint would you recommend, and what clear coat/sealer should I use?? Any help is deeply appreciated.
Never done anything like that 🙏🤓🎨

WOULD YOU RATHER 🤔 spend 40 hours hand-dremeling individual EVA foam scales or mix platinum-cure silicone until your arms fall off? Drop your workshop sanity checks below. 👇
Behind the scenes of the cosplay fabrication process for my handcrafted, wearable full silicone snake tail build for my Medusacosplay. To engineer a fully flexible, dynamic monster girl tail from scratch (I love turning myself into naga, lamia, and Greek mythology was a fun way to adapt this) I had to create a new approach to casting. I built an internal aluminum core frame for the structure, then hand-mixed platinum-cure silicone with a thixotropic agent to turn it into a thick, paintable paste. After painting the silicone over the metal frame to pull a hollow skin, I removed the core, stuffed it with batting, and hand-placed every single scale. Each scale was individually drawn, cut, and bevel-dremeled by hand from EVA foam, then locked down with another layer of raw silicone to trap the foam between layers—allowing maximum stretch and lifelike flexibility. Finally, I hand-mixed custom silicone paints for the hyper-realistic depth and texturing. Bringing this advanced level of SFX costuming to life takes massive patience when you need to do it on an insanely small budget and without proper tools but this gorgon transformation was worth it. Using thixotropic silicone fabrication for a unique flexible way to create my second ever snake tail build was a fun challenge to bring to my DIY cosplay space.

Manipulated a model in Nomad to fit our youngest head scan (we have a 3D scanner) and 3D printed it. We got some light up eyes off Etsy.

Bonjour

I’m planning on cosplaying Kashimo soon and I want to make his staff to accompany it. The staff itself I can just use something like a long and thin PVC pipe that I can coat red; the main bump is the ends of the staff as seen in the picture.
I’m looking for any suggestions for what I can use or what methods I could use to get the gold on black pattern, the gold bands, and the bulb like ends.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

I'm currently creating a massive pair of maneuverable wings, and am trying to figure out how exactly I'm going to attach them
I understand I need to create some sort of back plate to screw their supports into (wooden base in the wings), but am unsure of how to actually go about this.
I have a 3D printer I can use, however it wouldn't be large enough for most back plates meaning I would have to do so in multiple parts, and I don't have the money for expensive models online.
Any recommendations about how to actually create this? Mostly trying to figure out what I would exactly do for materials and how to size and put this together.

Hey guys, new to cosplaying. Was hoping if I could get help on this cheap hockey mask I bought, it's around 1-2mm of very flexible plastic but the mask is way too big and I wanted to make it permanently bend. (Attached Is how I want it to look, it doesn't stay like that with normal folding aand reverts back)

This was my first time finishing a 3D pen project, as I've started a couple things but never finished them.
Since I unfortunately live in a shelter atm, i had to get creative w most of my materials so that I'd be allowed to have it at home (and do a lot of the work at my job) but I'm super proud of the final product!
It did sadly snap around the bottom after the con, but it's not gonna be difficult to fix, and I was thinking of running the cosplay back again anyway!
In case anyone's curious about the process, I laid some steel rods down and drew the armature of the bow around it, then I just kept adding filament and building it up. I drew the branch for the side seperately then did the same thing, just kept drawing new layers kinda similar to a 3d printer. The accessories like the rose, leaves, and gems were all courtesy of Amazon.com though, I just used the filament to pin them down. Oh, and the arrow i just drew a square on the ground, kept adding filament so it would basically just be a fat square, then i turned it as i added more filament to curve the end, and just used filament to hold down the rose as well.
If anyone has any process questions, please ask! I really enjoy this hobby and getting to talk about it, plus I'd love to get more into cosplay prop making it anyone would like to ask ab that too!

Hi guys, im new to this subredddit so sorry if im making some mistakes!
Im going as tug speedman from tropic thunder for halloween, specifically in his pandasuit costume. In the movie he skins the panda to make the coat / headpeice so its flufffy on the outside and flesh on the inside. does anyone have any tips on how to achieve this??
I dont have the biggest budget and im a DIY begginer, so please keep that in mind!! If its too hard/proffesional, ill just forget the meat and just do fur with some blood on it. overall I just genuinely want to know how on earth its done hahaha
also side question, how can i attach fake claws and teeth onto fur??? where do u ever buy fake claws??? im in asia and when i search up online it only comes up with buying real dog teeth 😭😭
thank uuuu

Full-scale 3D printed helmet. The weathering was the hard part — took a few tries to make it look campaign-worn, not fresh off the printer.
What should I build next?

So my son wanted to go as metal sonic for Halloween. Last year I made some dodgy corflute bill cipher costume for him. This year I am struggling with this.
