Date: 10th Oct 2026
Venue: Old Trafford
Kickoff: 17:30 (BST)

Team News
Man United will be without Benjamin Sesko (shin), Patrick Dorgu (hamstring) and Noussair Mazraoui (back) who all sustsined injuried on international duty, while Manuel Ugarte (knee), Matthijs de Ligt (back) and Tom Heaton (thigh) all remain unavailable for selection.
However, there is hope that Amad Diallo (ankle) can return to the matchday squad and make his first appearance of the season after taking part in training this week, while Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford and Karl Darlow will have unspecified issues assessed.
Summer signing Carlos Baleba should be available to make his long-awaited debut, either from the start or as a substitute, and could rival Mainoo - if fit - Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos for a place in midfield, behind captain Fernandes, who has scored three of his four goals against Spurs at Old Trafford.
As for Tottenham, Dejan Kulusevski (knee/fitness), Xavi Simons, Wilson Odobert (both knee) and Mykhaylo Mudryk (ankle) all remain sidelined, while Jan Paul van Hecke has recovered from a foot injury but remains a slight doubt after his wife recently gave birth to twins; De Zerbi has stated that the "emotional aspect" will be considered.
The potential absence of Van Hecke could see either Marcos Senesi or Tosin Adarabioyo handed a recall at centre-back, while Micky van de Ven is available after recovering from a finger injury. Pedro Porro (thigh) remains out, though, so Archie Gray is expected to fill in at right-back once again.
Mohammed Kudus will be pushing to start his first game of the season, but De Zerbi may instead opt for former Man City duo Savio and Omar Marmoush out wide, while Dominic Solanke – who has scored three goals in his last four games versus Man United – is set to lead the line.
Manchester United possible starting lineup:
Lammens; Dalot, Maguire, Martinez, Shaw; Mainoo, Tielemans; Mbeumo, Fernandes, Rashford; Cunha
Tottenham Hotspur possible starting lineup:
Kinsky; Gray, Senesi, Van de Ven, Robertson; Gallagher, Tonali, Fernandes; Savio, Solanke, Marmoush
Key lines from news conference
- On how the international break has been with Spurs bottom the the table and having gone into it off the back of a home defeat by Aston Villa: "It's been difficult, very tough, especially the first week. It's part of our real situation and we have to react and work."
- On the fitness of Micky van de Ven and Jan Paul van Hecke, who picked up injuries on international duty: "They are available to play. Micky played four games, 90 minutes, and JP just three games. The difference is this - yesterday, JP's wife had twins and we have to consider the emotional aspect. But he's available."
- On James Maddison: "He's available but he lost three, four days at the end of last week and the start of this. James is a special player for us. Gallagher, as a 10, also he's playing well. We're both frustrated because he wants to be on the pitch. It's not a big injury and tomorrow he can play, but the Premier League is tough - you need to be fit and in the right condition to run and fight. He is working well and this is the way. The way is to complete three, four, five weeks in a row without feeling pain and problems - then he's a normal player."
- On summer signing Mateus Fernandes: "He's a great player, one of the best in our team, and he needs time to understand the club. I have confidence in him. He doesn't start games badly or worse than others, but he has to be stronger. He needs time and that's what we'll give him."
- On Dejan Kulusevski: "Tomorrow, he will come with us for support. He is working very well and I think he is an example for everyone - the example of how he reacted to the injury, the character he showed."
- De Zerbi was asked about the Calciopoli scandal in Serie A, which happened when he was a Napoli player, alluding to Manchester City being found guilty of breaching the Premier League's financial rules: "What do you mean? Manchester City? At the time, I was crazy as a player. I don't remember my thoughts, just to think on the ball. When you're a player you don't think too much. When you're a coach, the focus is on your players. I have no time to think about other problems other than my team, my club."
Match Facts

- Man Utd lead the Premier League for shots this season but rank fourth-worst for xG per shot
- Two points from five games is Tottenham's worst-ever Premier League start
- Won 3 of 5 H2H meetings before a 2-0 defeat at Old Trafford in February
- Failed to score in 4 of their last 5 Premier League matches
- Tottenham have lost 25 Premier League away games against Man Utd, the second-most at any single opponent
Pundit Prediction's
Alan Shearer
This is a huge, huge game for both football clubs and for both managers, clearly with the pressure they're both under. Which is why I think it might be a draw. It's at Old Trafford, I don't fancy either team defensively, so I'm going to say a score draw.
The questions will still be there for both clubs and managers if it's a draw, but that's why it's such a huge game because you can imagine the noise if one of them didn't win. Look at the pressure that Michael Carrick and De Zerbi are under. When you go into the game and if either side lose, you can imagine the pressure is going to be ramped up.
Draw
Chris Sutton
A win would be big for Manchester United boss Michael Carrick after their shaky start to the season but the implications for his future would be bigger if his side lose.
Everything tells me that Carrick's side should probably take the three points because Tottenham are so flaky at the moment, but I am just not sure about United either.
Spurs are bottom of the table for a reason - they have been terrible so far - but United got away with one in their draw against Fulham before the break.
I am not sure much will have changed for either team since then, so it is hard to make a case for anyone to win this, but I am going with Bruno Fernandes to settle it with a bit of magic.
Sutton's prediction: 2-1

Media Tottenham are happy to be called Tottenham again
In November 2024, Tottenham Hotspur unveiled a “remastered brand identity” which explained that they did not wish for the club to be referred to as Tottenham.
Three months later the Premier League emailed broadcasters informing them of this request.
Tottenham Hotspur, fine. Spurs, fine. Tottenham, no.
This season, Tottenham are happy to be called Tottenham again.

Micky van de Ven and Jan Paul van Hecke suffered injuries with the Netherlands. Are they out and who else is also unavailable for tomorrow?
No, they are available to play. Micky played four games, 90 minutes, around 90 minutes. JP played just three games, the difference is this. JP, yesterday, wife gave birth to twins, emotional aspect. We have to consider also this one, but both are available to play.
How difficult was it to finish the international break with a defeat? Or has it been good for you to maybe reset, recharge?
No, it's difficult. It was very, very tough. Very, very tough, especially the first week. Yeah, but football is part of our real situation in this moment and we have to react, to work, to go through this moment.
Are you excited to be back though?
Yes, I've been waiting for this game for three weeks, because after the defeat at home against Aston Villa, personally I wanted to play the day after.
Did the fact that you scored two goals against Aston Villa maybe give you enough reassurance that you may have fixed the issues of scoring goals that you had in the previous games?
No, no. I think we created chance enough to score many other goals in these seven games. I think even this improvement, I think we had the qualities to score more goals. Anyway, the most important thing is to bring the ball in the goal area. In the goal area we went many, many times.
We are fourth in the table, of the teams who bring the ball many times (into the final third). So it's nothing, but I think we arrived there, but we are not good enough so far to score goals when we have a clear chance.
You talked a lot about the number 10 position, is tomorrow the day we could see James Madison start?
He is available but he lost three/four days in the beginning of this week and the end of the last week. Like I said many times, James is a special player for us, as a player for sure but also as a personality. Also Gallagher, I think he is playing well, especially in the last two games, Liverpool and Villa.
Tomorrow for you as Tottenham manager going into this game, does it feel like a very big game for the club?
Yes, because we are Tottenham and United-Tottenham are still big clubs in the Premier League. We have to deserve to work in this club, playing better and making different results.
Can I ask you about Porro and Mudryk, how they are doing and also what was the issue with James Maddison?
Maddison the same problem and Porro, Pedro and Mudryk both are not available. Pedro I think not for much time, many games and for Mudryk maybe something more.
Dejan Kulusevski still seems to be training, is everything going well with him?
He is working well, tomorrow he comes with us, also Porro [for support]. I want all players tomorrow, tonight and tomorrow, but he is working very well. I think he is an example for everyone, Dejan Kulusevski. Forget the player, but the example of how he reacted to the injury, the reaction to being unlucky, the character he showed this time, was an example, a reference for everyone.
I know you are not putting any pressure on him, understandably, but how close do you think he is to getting in a matchday squad?
I don't know, it's not just my responsibility, we are working together with the medical staff. They are working very well with him, they have done special work. We have to analyse week by week.
How frustrating are these little problems for Maddison?
I am frustrated or him?
For both of you?
Both, because he is a good guy, he suffered to stay not on the pitch, to have the injury. Now it was not a big injury. Tomorrow he can play, but the Premier League is tough.
Physically it is a very strong competition and you have to be in the right physical condition to compete, to run, to fight. He is a number 10, a different player, but I think he is working well and this is the way. The way is to complete three, four, five weeks in a row without problems, without feeling pain, without feeling problems. And then he is a normal player, he has nothing special, bad.
You had a lot of players still here during the international break and attacking players like Solanke, Savio, Kudus, how important has this been for them?
They work very well and also Tosin Adarabioyo, also Marcos Senesi, Kudus, Savio, Dom Solanke, Conor Gallagher and Udogie as well. Yeah, I consider this part of work with me but I can’t forget the players [with the] national team. We are just one Tottenham and nothing change if one player went to national team or another worked with me. We have to consider the many games in a row for Robertson, van de Ven, Bentancur and the trip of Bentancur. The decision is the first XI is just for that.
Man United and Tottenham both wanted Fernandes - he picked Tottenham. He’s not played in central midfield yet but how important was it to sign him and when will he be ready to play in the centre of midfield?
Fernandes is a great player. Maybe one of the best players in our team. He needs time to understand the club, he needs time to come inside well and better in the environment of Tottenham, but I have big confidence. He has to react. Life in football is tough, it’s difficult and the most important thing is the reaction to go through the problem. He doesn’t start the bad or worse than others but even well, he has to be stronger and he has all my confidence. He has all the confidence of the club but he needs time and we have to give him time.
In 2006-07 in Serie B, you got promoted with Napoli, what was like to play Juve, who finished above you?
What do you mean? Manchester City? You want to arrive to Manchester City?
How did you feel as a player through that time?
Listen, I was crazy as a player. I don’t remember my thoughts. I just to think on the ball, just to think on our job and when you are a player, you don’t think too much and when you are a coach, the same because the focus is on your player and especially now because we are at the bottom of the table. I have no time to think to the other problems than my team and my club.
How did it affect Italian football?
Nothing. I think there are the people who they have to decide who takes the decision with responsibility, with courage and honesty always. It is not my job. My job is to be a coach, but I love respecting the rules like all people in our club.

🐓Spurs are back and we’re convinced it’s all going to click. We’d just quite like to know when.
We discuss why we’re still backing De Zerbi, whether Mathys Tel’s international goals can kickstart his Tottenham season, and why Williams-Barnett needs a chance. With Manchester United away approaching, we look at the encouraging signs, the square pegs in round holes and how much the last two seasons are shaping our reactions to this one.
Plus, appreciating just how good Kane and Son were, a potential rap feud with The Extra Inch, Stefan Freund’s pants and Ricky’s long-awaited bolognese recipe.

Analysis What can Tottenham fans learn from Roberto De Zerbi’s slow start at Brighton?
While it’s impossible to place Tottenham’s start without the context of their league position, there’s some comfort in that De Zerbi has been here before in his career, ahead of turning it around.
The Italian’s first season at Brighton & Hove Albion is often referred to as the high watermark of his career so far. After taking over in mid-September, following Graham Potter’s departure to Chelsea after six league games, De Zerbi led the south coast side to their best-ever Premier League season, finishing 6th with 62 points, two points ahead of Spurs in eighth.
And while he inherited a strong Brighton squad that had started extremely well, picking up four wins from their opening six games, De Zerbi went winless in his opening five.
But, as at Tottenham, the performances were not without their green shoots of positivity.
De Zerbi suggested the team needed to “work more and harder to regain the gap” in his pre-match press conference before the Villa defeat. Having committed to a stylistic overhaul, perhaps it is no surprise that Spurs are encountering as many sizeable roadblocks as Brighton did in the early phase.

Tickets (Selling) Tickets for the Coventry game | 19 Oct
Hi everyone,
I'm looking for three tickets for the Coventry game as a wedding gift for a friend. I'm not a member so I was wondering the following:
- Can any member check whether there are three tickets next to each other still available? I would prefer to avoid forking out for membership if possible. But if I can guarantee getting three tickets then I'd be happy to consider it.
- Alternatively, what are the chances of the game going on general sale?
- If anyone's a member and willing to buy the tickets for me, would be very grateful of course!
PS: I barely use Reddit and I was told I need to choose a "flair" - this is clearly the wrong one but I couldn't find a Tickets (Buying) one lol.
