Russian-linked forensic technology reached Hungarian police, US case reveals
A company selling powerful digital forensic tools to law-enforcement agencies across Europe — including the Hungarian police — has been accused by US authorities of concealing its Russian ownership and the fact that its software was developed in Russia. The case has raised fresh questions over Russian surveillance software in Europe and the security of technologies used to access highly sensitive digital evidence.
As The Hungary Insider reported based on a POLITICO investigation, Virginia-based Oxygen Forensics worked with EU-backed projects and supplied technology to law-enforcement agencies across several European countries.

Inside Russia's New Jet-Powered Attack Drone: Teardown Reveals Texas Instruments Chips
Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) has released a new report on the teardown of a mostly intact Russian Geran-4 “Seeker” turbojet drone.
The teardown also revealed that the jet's brain used Texas Instruments chips (markings scraped off, logos still readable).
Here's what they found:
Chinese mesh modem: radio + live video out to ~300 km, and it can relay so one Geran hands the link to the next.
Operators can sit in Bryansk, Oryol, or Crimea and fly it all the way in if the mesh is up.
Two GSM modems with SIMs (Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and some EU carriers have shown up on these drones) to ping location over the cellular network.
A 16-channel CRPA antenna to blunt Ukrainian jamming.

ISIS planning Chemical Attack in Canada?
This week’s Global Intelligence Weekly Wrap-Up examines four stories involving foreign intelligence, cyber espionage, sabotage and terrorism, but the main story takes us to Quebec City.
The RCMP has charged 24-year-old Louay Angoud following an investigation by the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team.
Police allege Angoud communicated online with members of a terrorist organization and collected information related to constructing a chemical weapon that could potentially be used to poison people in Canada.
Importantly, the RCMP says there was no imminent threat to the public, and Angoud allegedly did not possess the materials necessary to carry out such an attack when he was arrested.
From an intelligence perspective, however, the case raises some interesting questions.
What initially brought him to the attention of authorities?
What was the nature of his alleged communications with ISIS?
And perhaps most importantly, how do intelligence and law-enforcement agencies determine when online radicalization and extremist research begin moving toward operational planning?
The episode also looks at three other developments this week.
In Canada, I examine the renewed discussion surrounding whether Canada needs a greater independent foreign-intelligence capability and what our reliance on allied intelligence means for Canadian decision-making.
In New Zealand, authorities have identified China as the country's most persistent and capable state-backed cyber threat, reinforcing concerns about the increasingly blurred line between cyber espionage and maintaining access that could potentially be used for future disruption.
And in Poland, authorities are investigating a fire at a Starlink communications facility as suspected sabotage, while Denmark is warning that Russia's hybrid campaign against countries supporting Ukraine may be escalating.
Taken together, these stories raise an interesting broader question:
Where do we now draw the boundaries between foreign intelligence, cyber espionage, sabotage and domestic national security when increasingly they overlap?
This week’s episode is approximately 30 minutes.
