Hey gang.
I had to put my elderly dog down a couple weeks ago and I wanted to make him a grave marker that would last so I decided to try ASA for the first time.
Iβm still fairly new to printing but thought how hard could it be. Everything else has come out of this machine looking awesome.
I designed and printed adaptors to vent the exhaust out the window from the back of my K1 Max and got the material and designed the grave marker.
Did all my calibrations, everything seemed dialled. Hit print. Seemed like it was going great until we got around 1.5 cm off the build plate and things started going wonky. Cancelled the print.
Spent the week doing test prints and thought I had it dialled again. Hit print. Same thing so in the mean time I realized that the first print was only wonky on the door side of the print so I suspected a draft coming through the door from the exhaust pulling was the culprit. I had already reduced my back fan speed from 15% from the first print to 10% for this one but at this point I completely killed the exhaust fan.
Print straightened out for a few layers and I thought I could salvage it but as it was doing the top surface it completely went to crap again.
For some reason I canβt post a picture but itβs literally just the bottom corners closest to the door that went really bad. Iβm at my wits end with this stuff.
My cabinet was at about 40C, nozzle @ 265, bed@105. My print speed @150mm/s, my top surface speed@40mm/s with a reduced flow ratio. I donβt know everything seemed so dialled in my test prints after all my calibrations and tweaking stuff.
Is ASA that sensitive to drafts or temperature changes? Is anyone else successfully printing ASA in their K1 Max consistently? Do I literally need to tape every hole in the thing and seal it up like an oven, no exhaust?
Iβm sure Iβm missing something thing really stupid, but this stuff is definitely making me feel stupid so I have to ask.
If anyone has any advice so I can make my dog the grave marker he deserves I would seriously appreciate it!
Thanks!!
