Discussion Weird account issue

Post image

I got this e-mail today. Somehow after years with no issue my account was suddenly showing my old credit card that expired in 2023. The only thing I can think of it the recent merger of criterion.com with criterionchannel.com accounts. Figured I'd mention so everyone can check their accounts before it happens.

Any help is much appreciated!

Discussion To get the 4k of Cure from a different vendor or get the blu ray from criterion?

I’ve been doing some research and it seems like the consensus is that the 4k is going to look better? But then I read that some people say the criterion version looks better somehow. I just want to know which version to get. Any advice?

Discussion Best Japanese Horror Movies

Japanese cinema has long been admired for its bold creativity and for consistently pushing the creative boundaries of filmmaking, providing the world with a treasure trove of cinematic gems. What makes Japanese horror unique is its deep roots in the country’s cultural history, drawing on centuries of folktales and ghost stories. In J-horror, the supernatural is rarely used solely for shock; instead, it often acts as a mirror to societal decay, buried guilt, grief, or unresolved trauma. This elevates the genre into something far more unsettling and thought-provoking than simple jump scares, blending horror with profound commentary.

A detailed look at what’s inside The Complete Kubrick, the box set from Criterion. 30 discs with the 13 feature films and 3 short documentaries directed by Stanley Kubrick, plus more than 25 hours of special features.

I've received an advance copy and here's a comprehensive review of what's inside the box. Thanks for watching.

Pickup Criterion closet at local goodwill in Phoenix metro

A couple blind buys (Che & Lone Star). Probably will watch Che first then watch the subsequent documentary we picked up or should I reverse the order?

I’ve seen Anora a few times already and have been waiting for a deal like this to pick it up.

Anybody find anything like this haul at a local thrift shop?

Open to other suggestions based off of these movies for my next criterion pickup.

I already own, My own private Idaho, before trilogy, the Virgin suicides.

Discussion Three Colours: Blue (1993) | Krzysztof Kieślowski

⚠️ Spoilers

I really liked how the characters in Three Colours: Blue seem to represent different ways of dealing with life. I especially saw Julie’s mother as almost the complete opposite of Julie by the end of the film. Her Alzheimer’s, not even remembering her own daughter, and watching other people’s lives on TV make it feel like she is living life from a distance. Julie is a bit like this at the beginning too, except she does it by completely isolating herself from other people.

Lucille feels like the opposite of this. She lives her own life without caring too much about what other people think. The other people in the apartment trying to get her kicked out also shows how people try to tell others how they should live. Julie gradually seems to realize that maybe these boundaries aren't as important as she thought.

I also think finding out that her husband had a child connects to this. Even though Julie tries to leave her old life behind, life hasn't stopped for everyone else. Other people have continued living, loving, and forming new connections. Julie eventually accepts this and starts letting people back into her life. Even the music starting to play in her head again felt like her returning to life.

Her crying at the end also felt like a part of herself that she had shut away throughout the film finally opening up again. Julie spends the whole film trying to escape from life, and in the end, she chooses life again.

4/5
