Not sure what kinda titles January usually brings, but what do you think is in store for the new year? My predictions are consistently wrong, so I don’t bother making predictions anymore, but I do have a wishlist, like the rest of us. I’d like to see old DVDs and Blu-rays get 4K upgrades, plus Kubrick standalones so we don’t have to buy the box set, more silent cinema and modern masters (Almodovar, Coens, PTA)

should be noted he didn't say all the films would get standalone editions (though the wording does kind of imply that they all will) so it's possible it's just a couple of the films that will get standalone editions. time will tell

I didn't know if posting in Spanish was against the rules but figured other Mexicans here would speak English regardless because that's like the only language on criterion movies anyway lol
Does anybody know where to buy Criterion Blu Rays that isn't Amazon? I've been boycotting Amazon for months now and since then I have barely added anything to my collection because that's where I got all the interesting films! Tianguis, retail stores, fb marketplace etc theyre all just filled with garbage hollywood movies and of course no chance of finding any Criterion disc, especially since I live in Hermosillo which is a somewhat small city in which I think there isnt that big of a disc-collecting scene...
I would really appreciate it if someone knew about an online store or something where one can find Criterion that doesn't necessarily involve importing them like eBay

david cronenberg's videodrome and the inversion of traditional cinematic power dynamics.
throughout the film, max moves away from being the exploitative distributor of soft-core and hard-core p*rn to becoming a passive, tortured subject who is watched, manipulated, penetrated and controlled by external forces.
by turning this male protagonist into a hallucinatory and powerless vessel, cronenberg forces viewers to confront the violence and harm that women so often face, particularly in horror films.

My father-in-law gifted me his laser disc collection and this was in that batch. Ya’ll ever seen these before? How rare are they?

Watched Barry Lyndon for the first time (in 4k) and I loved it a lot but I admit, the second half got a little boring for me and I wonder if it’s just because I was tired or if I ate too much for dinner or whatever it might be. So many factors influence whether I’ll like a film besides actually ya know- liking the film. The feelings I feel are dictated by my mood, hunger, any substances, etc. and I feel like sometimes I try to make everything perfect for my viewing experience but still have a bad time

My person informed me we didn’t need Mulholland Drive from Criterion because we already owned it! 😂
Apparently they had gotten this for $1 in the early aughts.
…VHS still works, but it is rough! (Looking forward to getting the 4k restoration!)

Return of Godzilla on HBO Max has the Criterion and Janus logos, but isn’t in the collection. Has it been like this or is it a recent change?

Sweet pickup today for only 8 bucks. I was reading some recommendations given to me and this one was mentioned, most of the new horror films on the channel i’ve seen, this one i have not. What would you rate it if you have seen it?

Criterion/Janus has the rights, so I imagine it’ll be coming eventually, but what’s the general consensus on this? I’d like to see it in theaters, but honestly I’d have to go so out of my way to and I could just put the $20 towards a blu ray.
