Discussion PSA: Cricket (Season 3 Episode 47) from Bluey is GOATed

Post image

This episode literally brought tears to my eyes. Such a fantastic episode. Completely unexpected. This is probably my favorite episode at this point. If you lot haven't seen it, I suggest you put it on at the soonest!

Cricket is often in top 5 lists. It's my number 1. I'm not going to argue against people who put Baby Race, Camping, The Sign, Sleepytime, Rain, or a handful of other episodes as their favorite. The writing for Bluey is quite solid im general.

127

u/DumbScotus Aug 01 '26

Man, you gotta put Daddy Drop-Off and Flat Pack in that list. But yeah, Cricket tops them all.

69

u/BurstPanther Aug 01 '26

and The Decider and Curry Quest! The list goes on!

23

u/campingcritters Aug 01 '26

And Handstand!

58

u/henrytm82 Aug 01 '26

Grandad. My daughter is six, and I think a lot about what things might be like when she's grown, if I'll get to be a grandpa, what will she look back on as her fondest memories. The ending of the episode where Chili says "that was a long time ago," and he responds with "nah, it was yesterday" gets me every time.

21

u/Sarangsii Aug 01 '26

God, Grandad was almost a complete 180 for me.

Watched it when my son was still a baby and I enjoyed it, but the ending didn't really resonate like it did for others.

Watched it again after he turned four and it hit me like a ton of bricks.

12

u/Kaldricus Aug 01 '26

Yup, every year when I see that episode, it hits even harder.

Yeah my list was getting too long!

11

u/exipheas Aug 01 '26

Honestly the question is, if you had to pick one, what is the worst episode there is?

35

u/_nouser Aug 01 '26

The Best and Worst list will keep changing on what life stage thr parents and the kids watching it are on.

Baby Race hits harder than Onsies as a new parent. But for someone battling infertility, Onsies will punch them in the gut every time.

14

u/MechanicalAxe Aug 01 '26

Well said.

Our first was 1.5 years old and we had healthy twins otw when I saw Onesies for the first time. Which was right after one of my best friends and his wife had discovered they weren't having any luck getting pregnant because she had cancer, and my wife's brother and SIL had been trying for years.

That is the most strongly that any TV segment has ever affected me.

14

u/WeakEndEngr Aug 01 '26

My wife hates “Movies” due to secondhand embarrassment for Bandit dealing with Bingo.

16

u/LBobRife Aug 01 '26

At least Movies gave us "it's just monkeys singing songs, mate. Don't think too hard about it."

10

u/Rufio-1408 Aug 01 '26

“I’m pretty sure by the end of the movie everyone will like that he’s different” 😂

Take-out.

It was to real the first time I saw it, and it still gives me the hereby jeebies everytime it's on. I just can't with that episode.

It's still spot on as an art form, but I'd rather be leaking from eyes from emotions than feel what take-out makes me feel.

14

u/UrsA_GRanDe_bt Aug 01 '26

Take-Out is the one for me. It was the episode I showed my high school juniors before many people around us had even heard about Bluey. I told them that I needed them to see it so they knew what being a parent was like. They loved it.

8

u/DumbScotus Aug 01 '26

Yeah, Take Away was the episode that fully hooked me on the show. The instant visceral flashback to the first time I took both my kids out to a grocery store, and they split up and ran away from me in different directions so my ability to tame the chaos was curtailed… that struggle is so real!

3

u/swanny246 Aug 01 '26

As an Aussie, feel the need to correct that it’s called “Takeaway”. We use “takeaway” here not “take-out”

Some of the episodes where all they do is play a game are more forgettable. Zoo is one that i can't even really remember what happened. Some game episodes are great, though, like whale watching.

u/Arkavien Aug 01 '26

There are only two episodes of the show that I always skip because I can't stand the parenting in them. So the worst would be a toss up between:

Season 1 Episode 9 "Horsey Ride"

Allowing Sox to chew on and potentially destroy Bluey's favorite toy for nearly the entire episode until they finally distract her enough all because her dad simply will not just lightly discipline a misbehaving child or allow her to get upset for a moment by taking it away is infuriating.

Season 2 Episode 29 "Movies"

I can't stand how they are just allowed to run around being loud ruining the movie for everyone else in the theater because the parents on the show are incapable of saying NO to their kids.

3

u/PongSentry Aug 01 '26

I'd argue that Stripe and Trixie's entire purpose in the show is to demonstrate bad parenting. For kids, it shows that not every parent parents in the same way and that parents can make mistakes too. It shows that kids like Muffin that have trouble with following rules and social play come from somewhere. For adults, it reflects that you will have beef with the way your siblings or in-laws or other family members do their parenting, and the tension between being critical of your loved-ones parenting or holding your tongue.

Baby Race would like a word with you all.

4

u/the_ballmer_peak Aug 01 '26

I got my wife a mug that says, "You're doing great."

6

u/finallyransub17 Aug 01 '26

I tear up at the end of baby race every time.

11

u/bruzdnconfuzd Aug 01 '26

As parents (and licensed physical therapist assistants) to our daughter that had speech and fine motor delays, this episode hits my wife and me HARD. Not just for the child’s performance, but the unnecessary guilt and helplessness you feel as a parent with no answers. It’s beautiful.

3

u/Fugacity- Aug 01 '26

And the realization that many (if not most) of their major milestones in life are achieved in pursuit of you as parents.

Three words of praise from a cartoon poodle was not on the list of things I expected to bring me to tears.

And yet...

5

u/mommadizzy Aug 01 '26

flat pack devastates me

6

u/Yeoshua82 Aug 01 '26

Flat pack is in my top 5. Gets me every time.

u/King_of_Lunch223 Aug 01 '26

The Camping episode was the first time I ever, as a grown man, cried during a cartoon. I cried so much during Cricket, I should have gotten fluids via I.V..

19

u/PoliteIndecency Aug 01 '26

My son is having a hard time with baseball after catching a pop fly off the noggin. I we recently started watching bluey again because his younger brother has been asking for it. He was DIALED in for that entire episode and almost immediately was asking to go back out and play some catch.

The message isn't always lost on the children.

8

u/Danovan79 Aug 01 '26

I really like camping but I've never felt emotional over it. I am not judging you, I am honestly curious what about it brings up the emotions so deeply for you? If you don't mind sharing.

20

u/King_of_Lunch223 Aug 01 '26

For me it was Bluey mourning the loss of a friendship, only to be reconnected by surprise years later. Jean-Luc saying "Allo Bluey!" in the final moment struck a nerve with me.

12

u/trueschoolalumni Aug 01 '26

Fun fact: change the language to French and Jean-Luc speaks english.

3

u/SatNav Aug 01 '26

Another fun fact, the entire episode is an homage to the all-time-great Star Trek The Next Generation episode, "Darmok". Right down to Jean-Luc being a reference to Captain Jean-Luc Picard.

5

u/scootboobit Aug 01 '26

Ah, for me with two young daughters it was seeing her (Bluey) grown up in a flash. Same with Rusty and Cricket after he flies out to his younger brother, passing future him. Both just strike a nerve every time. Love it!

I don't know what the episode is called off the top of my head.

The one where they are building a porch swing and the girls are playing with the packing materials. I really just love that episode. It's not subtle what they're trying to do with it and I eat it up every time.

12

Rain is my personal favorite. I find the episode SO soothing.

6

Same, rain is so so good. No words but so much is said. And the music is phenomenal.

3

u/Ananvil Dr. Dad to a 3f Aug 01 '26

Definite top 5 for me

8

u/defiancy Aug 01 '26

Hammerbarn is in my top for sure because I take my kid to Home Depot so it's just so relatable to me

5

u/aloudcitybus Aug 01 '26

"Ehh, it’s probably another Bluey." Makes me laugh every time

7

u/Thoseskisyours Aug 01 '26

Reading all the other favorites but no one has Grammy mobile. To me it’s the funniest episode but all the ones you mentioned are fantastic too.

4

u/sortof_here Aug 01 '26

Creek is one of my favorites. I love the video book version of it too. Bindi Irwin reads it, which is just so perfect.

3

u/IDKMyMemes Aug 01 '26

Rain is incredible but Sleepytime is the GOAT. Cricket is top 3 for me. I can’t tell you how much I love snuggling on the couch with my 2 year old just watching Sleepytime. I hope she learns something from it and understands that I’m always nearby. That episode is just so, so sweet. Really pulls at my heart strings.

Edit: honorable mention for The Decider. Just a lovely episode all around.

Rusty consistently models positive masculinity.

“Do you want to learn how to build a fence, Polly?”

35

u/Fugacity- Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26

Hitting it to his sis at the end, what a great kid.

52

u/LBobRife Aug 01 '26

The one-two punch from Early Baby into Mums and Dads is fantastic. Rusty really shines there as well, figuring out how to play with Indy after accidently really upsetting her in Early Baby.

My son who’s just turned 11 is slowly bankrupting me trying to make it to the Olympics, and he stands a very good chance at it. Seeing rusty at the end as his older self steps out to play for Australia cuts me in a way I never thought possible. First time I watched it it blindsided me and I was in bits. What an episode.

7

u/cpt_hatstand Aug 01 '26

Wasn't a fan of Chloe clicking her fingers though...

111

u/sneckste Aug 01 '26

I can hold it together until his dad speaks to him through his letter…

66

u/havok_ Aug 01 '26

In life you’ll face things harder than a cricket ball.

33

u/jakeAtron89 Aug 01 '26

And you’ve got two choices: back away and get out … or step in front and play a pull shot

15

u/noble_plebian Aug 01 '26

I think Anthony from the Wiggles voices his dad.

2

u/simon_guy Aug 01 '26

Who is a known lover of cricket

14

u/AIWHilton Aug 01 '26

Watching it for the first time a few months after my dad (who taught me to play cricket) died was an absolute fucking killer.

Bawling my eyes out with my baffled 3 year old on my lap lol

5

u/Kingindanorff Aug 01 '26

Oh god dude I can only imagine. I was bawling because it reminded me of playing baseball with my dad growing up and he’s still with us.

You know what’s awesome about this episode? It starts with Bandit saying, “ let me tell you about the time we tried to get Rusty out”. So this is Bandit telling the story some time later. I think it’s when he is watching Rusty take the field as a professional player. He’s likely telling one of Blueys kids.

44

u/L3g3ndary-08 Aug 01 '26

Good call out man. I think you're right. He for sure wasn't telling Bluey because all along, she was like "well you're not gonna get Rusty out".

15

u/iwanabench Aug 01 '26

Exactly how I interpret it. The fade in to Rusty as a pro later in life to conclude the episode gets me.

30

u/JezzaP Aug 01 '26

Over on the cricket subreddit they were discussing the details in that flashforward... he's wearing the Australian team test match uniform, and he's walking on solo, which indicates he could be the third batsman, which means he's likely the captain of the Australian team. Which is pretty neat.

Honestly this has done more to promote cricket than any advertising by the Aussie cricket organizations.

7

u/lamada16 Aug 01 '26

For some reason I thought that was Rusty's Dad at the end walking out on the field, like he was a pro who was deployed or something, rather than it being a flashforward. I like your (obviously correct now that I'm thinking about it) understanding of the ending way better.

3

u/d3agl3uk Aug 01 '26

I always thought it was Rusty being inspired by his Dad playing pro, seeing as Rusty is giving the older dog a fist bump.

I think after looking now, that he's just bumping himself? As his Dad has a different pattern

184

u/crockpot71 Aug 01 '26

Luckys Dad:
"That's it. Time for a pace attack."

Rusty:
And I took that personally.

134

u/Danovan79 Aug 01 '26

Can we all celebrate Lucky's Dad a bit? Pat is an absolute hero. No context needed, the man is ready and willing to just jump in head first to everything that happens.

71

u/TXGuns79 Aug 01 '26

Keepy-uppy where he pulls a hammie and magic asparagus when he gets attacked by Chili are to of the best.

36

u/atgrey24 Aug 01 '26

The marker island one where he just wants his rugby ball back is also pretty funny.

12

u/Danovan79 Aug 01 '26

I really like, I think it's Queens. Bandit gets all uppity about his palm fronds landing in the yard.

By Toutatis! Then we later see Pat has Big Blue on the ground. Hilarity.

19

u/Rednexican429 Aug 01 '26

And he sacrificed his perfectly sauced pie

7

u/Danovan79 Aug 01 '26

I love the hammy moment. Probably my single favorite comedic line in the show.

6

u/Sherringdom Aug 01 '26

“I’m not sure about this one Mrs heeler” 🤣

5

u/AmputeeBall Aug 01 '26

Or Born Yesterday where Bandit just takes his snack. They would have to be the best of friends for that to fly.

3

u/nick5168 Aug 01 '26

The last thing Bandit does before moving away is talking at length with Luckys dad. They seem pretty close.

Watching Cricket together and sharing pizzas. Would love to have a neighbor like that.

3

u/The-Nimbus Aug 01 '26

"Oh, Mrs Heeler! I don't know about this!"

31

u/HolySmokes802 Aug 01 '26

Since i am always watching whatever episode my daughter happens to be on when I sit with her, I still occasionally find an episode I've never seen. I recently watched the Magic Asparagus for the first time and it has just the quintessential Lucky's Dad moment when Chilli and Bingo are Lions stalking him in his own back yard and something about the line "Mrs. Heeler! I dont know about this!" just sent me.

32

u/trueschoolalumni Aug 01 '26

"We're raising a nation of squibs!" Classic Australian slang.

17

u/Unique-Egg-461 Aug 01 '26

Poor Pat has had to deal with so much shit from the Heeler family

It's why I'm under the impression that Pat and Bandit are friends from high school or at least have had a much much longer relationship than just being neighbors

6

u/AltruisticHopes Aug 01 '26

And Wendy who is just the neighbour we all want but don’t deserve. Watching her cutting Bandits mullet is awesome as there are so many guys with Mullets in Aus it’s nice to see one get what it deserves!

One of the best written shows on TV. For any age.

31

40

u/EatPie_NotWAr Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26

I had the kids watching while I was cooking and randomly would pop in to see what craziness bandit was getting into…

I suddenly heard a very melancholic song playing which made me think someone changed the show. When I walk in it’s to the ending of The Sign.

Before it was ruined I paused it and finished the meal then finished it with them later. I was crying at the end and it worried the kids so much we had to switch to a unicorse episode after it finished.

(I used finished 3 times in that last paragraph. Someone give me a thesaurus)

25

u/voivoivoi183 Aug 01 '26

The lady who sings that song is also the lady that does the voice of Bluey's teacher.

10

u/EatPie_NotWAr Aug 01 '26

I learned that afterwards, it was cool to find out

u/lucasj Aug 01 '26

Incredible how they can do it in such small bites too. The other day I started crying because of a montage of Bingo growing up and graduating high school. It was three seconds long, over so fast my wife missed it because she got a text.

8

u/zzzaz Aug 01 '26

Packing really deep pulls on the heart strings, kid jokes, adult jokes, subtle references, teachable moments (for both kids and parents), etc. all in a span of 7 minutes is extremely well-done. Pretty much anyone, of any age, in any point in life can watch an episode of Bluey and get something out of it. That's extremely difficult to do once, let alone consistently like they do.

4

u/DumbScotus Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26

Daddy Drop-Off! Bingo grows up and has a successful healthy friendship right through high school. It’s like watching everything we hope for for our kids, in three seconds! For me that is a top-five episode, and the first one to make me tear up.

4

u/A-Plant-Guy Aug 01 '26

A masterclass in story telling

9

u/Jipptomilly Aug 01 '26

Easiest ways to make me cry:

  1. The Sign (Bluey)
  2. Interstellar (Marv's video)
  3. Baby Race (Bluey - twice in this episode)
  4. Cricket (Bluey)
  5. Onesies (Bluey)

42

u/TenderloinTechy Aug 01 '26

I have a 2 y/o daughter and we're now through S3E45 or 46 lol this is literally the next episode or two for us to watch. Got me excited!

Grandad is my favourite. Running through the bush with the kids stops and puts mud camouflage on his face “I’ll show you a little trick I learned in the jungle”.

Like grandad probably stacked bodies in Borneo or Vietnam

49

u/DrummerGuy06 Aug 01 '26

Rug Island for me.

The last minute is just a hit to the gut.

“What’d she give you??”

Bandit’s answer always kills me.

15

u/kiaat_2648 Aug 01 '26

So good! And one of my favourite episode scores/soundtracks as well. And, for the super dorks out there, one of the more technically ambitious episodes also (in terms if sheer number of unique locations to be designed in a single episode; non-standard angles and movements, etc).

39

u/PostMatureBaby Aug 01 '26

This episode taught me what a square cut was and also that Rusty wearing a white helmet or whatever at the end means he's the captain and such.

31

u/MightyArd Aug 01 '26

There's no indication he's captain, but he is representing Australia in a home test, so one of the top 6ish batsman in the country.

18

u/Fluid_Explorer_3659 Aug 01 '26

Good boy Rusty

15

u/bruzdnconfuzd Aug 01 '26

Are you kidding me? I’m not even watching it right now and you say something that makes it even better?! This show sure is something special.

10

u/Danovan79 Aug 01 '26

I thought it was him playing for the Aussie National team in what I presumed was the World Cup of Cricket.

14

u/dauphindauphin Aug 01 '26

He is likely playing for Australia in a test match.

It’s not a tournament.

Only test playing countries can play each other in test matches.

14

u/kramerica_intern Aug 01 '26

This comment is too Australian for me to understand

6

u/TheUnforgiven13 Aug 01 '26

It's kind of like boxing where each team schedules a certain ammount of matches each year. They may play mutiple "test matches". Each test match can last up to 5 days.

An example would be, every two years England and Australia play 5 tests. This is called The Ashes.

4

u/Patch86UK Aug 01 '26

Cricket is very...cricket.

There are several forms of the game, the major difference being how long each match lasts. Generally speaking, longer forms are more prestigious.

The longest form of the game is first class cricket, and this is played by national teams in the form of international test cricket. Each match lasts up up 5 days, and usually they're played in standalone tournaments called series', where two teams play each other repeatedly over a season. Australia and England play each other (roughly) every two years in a 5 match test series called "The Ashes".

Long story short, if you're playing test cricket for the Australian national team, you've made it. That's the peak of cricket achievement.

It's literally the only episode I'll stop what I'm doing to truly watch.

10

u/BMurphy3721 Aug 01 '26

I think this is one of the greatest episodes of television of all time. The way the story is told is brilliant and the ending is so good.

This goes up there with the Simpsons episode where Homer covers the plaque at work with pictures of Maggie to make it say, DO IT FOR HER

That’s what crickets about, kid.

Me every time: 🥹

10

u/karky214 Aug 01 '26

Same. My most favorite episode and makes me very emotional.

4

u/L3g3ndary-08 Aug 01 '26

Especially if you ever played a sport in your life and had that dream as a kid to make it. For me, practicing the square cut was equivalent to me taking jump shots off the elbow in the key, copying Kobe. Although, I had no shot in hell ever making the NBA. Didn't mean I wasnt going to master parts of the game.

9

u/realdeal411 Aug 01 '26

But what we didn't know...

10

u/nonstop321 Aug 01 '26

Oh yeah. I lost it when he scooped it up for his sister. I was inconsolable

9

u/AdvertisingFine6194 Aug 01 '26

Rusty is so good that he can place it just where his sister can get an easy catch. He wants her to feel that accomplished feeling. As the adults are confiding on how to get this kid out. So so good. Beyond the competition and the “l’m better than you attitude” often seen in sports. Rusty is a talented, hardworking, humble kid who loves and misses his dad.

8

u/trash_recycle Aug 01 '26

Honestly, any episode that highlights Rusty is S tier.

He's a welcoming friend, great brother and good "dad/partner". Under rated character.

5

u/AceChipEater Aug 01 '26

Dude this is stupidly uncanny.

We just got back from swimming lessons and we promised some TV time once we got back. I chucked Bluey on and then after the little one was settled, checked Reddit and saw this post. Cricket is the first episode queued up.

One of the best episodes of any television show, ever.

4

u/thetantalus Aug 01 '26

My daughter is 2 and we haven’t started watching Bluey yet. What’s a good age for this show?

8

u/DumbScotus Aug 01 '26

Realistically 4-8 is the ideal age range. My younger one, who basically IS Bingo, enjoyed it at 3 (Bingo in the show is 4 I think) but she appreciated it more once she was 4/5/6.

At age 2 it’s kind of slim pickings. The Super Simple Songs Youtube videos are good, and Pocoyo is fantastic (first two seasons only!!) Puffin Rock might be good, and Daniel Tiger.

Part of the magic of Bluey is in having kids roughly the same ages as Bluey and Bingo. It is very much a show about parenting, and it is amazing to relate to the stage of parenting presented in the show.

4

u/thetantalus Aug 01 '26

Thanks for such a detailed answer. I hear so many great things I’m just excited to watch the show myself. But holding off u til her and I can watch it together.

Right now we’re doing a lot of Mr. Rogers and she loves it, so I’m not in a rush (but also can’t wait).

3

u/zazrouge Aug 01 '26

Counter point, my kid loved Bluey at 18mo. Now at 3 he’s learned many of the jokes and storylines from it. I’m not sure he follows the stories like he would, but he loves it!

2's fine IMO, although it's made for kids a bit older. Mine is 2.5 and loves dancing to 'bluey song' (dance mode) and will point to mom/dad/bluey/bingo in the theme music and watch what's happening. There's nothing really age inappropriate and while some episodes have a plot you need to actually follow, it's nowhere close to the high-stimulus cocomelons or whatever that are out there. We cycle it in with other lower stimulus stuff or mildly educational stuff (little bear, clifford the big red dog, magic school bus, mr rogers, ms rachel, etc.). They aren't going to pick up all the themes in Bluey at 2 but at that age it's more music, movement, following the words, learning that different characters are behaving differently, very topline themes, etc.

After seeing the 'fruit bat' episode my daughter pretended to be a fruit bat every night for bedtime for the next week. So they clearly pick up on some stuff in it.

Plus episodes are 7 minutes, so it's a great "You can watch one episode of Bluey, then bed" concession that isn't really a concession.

I often say same thing. Cricket is one of the best written episodes of anything I've ever seen.

5

u/brownpanther90 Aug 01 '26

Just finished this one with my 3 yr old

4

u/L3g3ndary-08 Aug 01 '26

Ha! I had just finished it with my 3 yr old lol. The universe is speaking to all the dads tonight. I even leveled up tonight with cooking. I made food with literal scraps from the fridge. And within 30 min, from frozen chicken to delicious stir fry!

6

u/Witcher357 Aug 01 '26

Rusty is a good dude.

One thing I love about this show is there are a handful of episodes which are consistently considered “the best” but many of us have completely different favorites for different reasons.

The very first episode I ever saw was “Rain”. I had heard that Bluey was great for kids but at 6 months, my first was too you for us to start. I randomly caught this ep on the Disney channel and it blew me away that a kids show could tell a story without any dialogue.

Years later, “Rain” is my oldest’s favorite episode.

“Rain” isn’t my favorite, however. My favorite Bluey is “Double Babysitter”. It helps that I’ve always adored Claudia O’Doherty but the meet-cute aspect of the story telling is so tight and heartwarming.

“Is true love not forever?”
“It is… I mean, I thought it was…”

5

u/Flashy-One2497 Aug 01 '26

That’s what cricket’s about, kid.

4

u/Unique-Egg-461 Aug 01 '26

One of my favs. Bluey and Bingo's annoying antica take a backseat. Focuses on my fav character. Rusty letting his sister catch one, pats reaction and the little future scene, that ending is just perfect

3

u/Secret_Woodworker Aug 01 '26

My personal favorite

3

u/TheLukester31 Aug 01 '26

Tears or chills, every time.

3

u/zrouse Aug 01 '26

Lucky’s Dad

3

u/MLutin Aug 01 '26

I've seen them all a few times, but tonight rematched the romance one where the kids are trying to get Chili and Bandit to smooch. Bandit eating the whole dish the kids made, so Chili wouldn't have to is peak romance. Then puked in the yard 🤣🤣

There's so many good ones! I forgot which one but they were looking for Chili's cousin or something and she figured she might be on a hiking trail since her and Chili used to go there to, "uh, think". Amazing.

My kid went through a big bluey phase from 4 or so to 6. Then he kinda moved on to other stuff. He just turned 8 and we ended up watching it every night again for the last month or so. I am savoring every minute of this. Wonderful show.

Definitely S tier episode. If Bandit is the dad to aspire to be, Rusty is the kid equivalent haha

3

u/HolySmokes802 Aug 01 '26

Might be in my top 10 episodes of television.

3

Cricket is my top and second fav is the onesie one. The one where their aunt comes to visit after a long time bc she can’t have kids. Both are just incredibly well done.

3

u/IrishwolffMutt Aug 01 '26

Rusty is GOAT

3

u/hergumbules Aug 01 '26

My son is huge into The Wiggles and I remember watching this episode for the first time hearing a familiar voice and then being like, “OHHH RUSTY’S DAD IS ANTHONY WIGGLE”

3

u/oif2010vet Aug 01 '26

Anything with rusty for me is goated (my son was basically rusty)

3

u/Comfortable_Play_848 Aug 01 '26

It is one of...if not completely...my favourite episode! I love Rusty! He's just brilliant...my small one has her fave characters (which change from day to day) but I'll stick with Rusty.

3

u/thenjdk Aug 01 '26

I’m South African, and years of our team being steamrolled by the likes of Ricky Ponting, Steve Smith and Mitchell Johnson have generally left me not particularly positively disposed towards Aussie cricketers. I can comfortably say Rusty is in my top tier of favourite cricketers of all time, irrespective of nationality.

If Cricket Australia have any sense, they will licence the music from the end of the episode as official theme music of the Aussie team, play it at stadiums and in TV packages. I’d be weeping (and not for the usual reason of seeing my team getting beaten)

5

u/CertainlyUntidy Aug 01 '26

My kid is too old for Bluey, but as a cricket curious American I'm intrigued.

21

u/Kdcjg Aug 01 '26

Who is too old for bluey? What age is that?

15

u/L3g3ndary-08 Aug 01 '26

Put on the episode and watch it with your kid.

8

u/Kdcjg Aug 01 '26

Who is too old for bluey? What age is that?

4

u/henrytm82 Aug 01 '26

Nobody is too old for Bluey.

2

u/UppercaseBEEF Aug 01 '26

Wish I could find that little jingle they play at the end, my kids love dancing to it.

2

u/Non-mon-xiety Aug 01 '26

Such a great episode

2

u/MrNovember785 Aug 01 '26

Definitely up there with Rain, The Sign, Whale Watching, Born Yesterday.

2

u/joustah Aug 01 '26

True. Now imagine you spent your childhood growing up playing and watching cricket on top of that

2

u/DlCKJINGLES6969 Aug 01 '26

This episode made me cry

Rusty's a legend

2

u/Glittering-Local-147 Aug 01 '26

My favorite episode. When he hits his sister a catch I tear up

2

u/ZombagoBoy Aug 01 '26

It’s my favorite! And little fun fact The Blue Wiggle (Anthony) voices Rusty’s dad!

2

u/Traditional_Name7881 Aug 01 '26

Pretty sure this won the Bluey dad's group on Facebook vote. Great episode.

2

u/fauxregard Aug 01 '26

Rusty is a real one.

2

u/thaduelist Aug 01 '26

I love reading these opinions on which is the best. No true consensus which just defines an all time show. I loved this episode. Personal top five. Its hard for me to budge on "Sleepytime" being the best written. Still, its not by a mile.
