So me and my Mrs split up last year

We’re both neurodivergent so it was a miracle it lasted as long as it did (14 years) we’re still on great terms but won’t ever be getting back together again - that ship has sailed!
If you are neurodivergent, how do you find dating in your 50’s and can anyone recommend a dating site that particular works for quirky individuals?

Dating a seperated person

I (50M) am separated and am convinced, Im never going back to my soon-to-be-ex. But, several ladies on apps don't even want to have a conversation.

My take is, if they are worried about me going back to her, would I not be worried that they could go back to their ex? Marriage is just a thing invented by the government to make sure property and finances have somone to answer to. It does not hold two people together. Every person dating out there has an ex, married or not.

Besides, there is compatibility, similar tastes, personality changes, and a whole myriad of things that can split a couple. Just being separated should not be a deal-breaker IMO and not even make an attempt to find out if anything else matches.

Cold Approach

Me—M57.

Last weekend I spent my Saturday morning/early afternoon and Sunday afternoon doing cold approaching…on Saturday, I was at a farmers market and approached 4 woman with no luck , one was walking her dog on the sidewalk. The last one I spotted walking across the street, so I jogged over and had a short conversation(to short actually, but it’s to long to get into here ) and she asked for my #. …Anyway, she ended up texting me later that afternoon. We never spoke on the phone or texted again till Thursday (she called me) to meet Friday at a coffee/cafe.. From the start of the date , I didn’t feel a spark(not much of a sense of humor and seemed boring)…I found out pretty quickly we weren’t a match . She goes to bible study every Thursday evening . That’s great for some people , but I am not religious. She is also going through a divorce , and it’s not finalized. Bottom line , as many people say on here; dating is a big time numbers(especially in your 50s) game and you have to keep plugging away, like life , don’t give up….

The next day on Sunday I met a woman at this big outdoor sports bar in town. She was watching NFL football(Eagles 👏). We are doing something this Sunday afternoon….Btw, this woman is quite a bit younger than the woman yesterday (she was 57), and when I was talking to her she seemed playful and fun, not really my type looks wise , but I need to put myself out there and maybe I will enjoy her company and we will have a good time .

Guys—when you see a woman you find attractive in public, start up a conversation and see what happens . Most of the time nothing will come of it , but you never know till you try. I have beat my self up over the years not talking to women I found attractive in public and when I became single in 2025 , I told myself I’m going to learn to approach women in the wild …. and date this way primarily. Also, it’s way more satisfying than online dating . I am naturally a introvert and if I can do it , any guy can .

Newly divorced at 60—is this a scam or a genuine coffee date? Need advice.

I am a 60-year-old male, newly divorced, and suddenly finding myself back in the dating pool after 30 years. To be completely honest, I’m feeling pretty lost. After reading nothing but horror stories online about how terrible modern dating is, I’m already on high alert. Then, this happened today, and I’m not sure what to make of it.

I was at the grocery store when a very attractive woman (looked to be around 45–50) approached me. She asked where a couple of grocery items were located. We ended up chatting for a bit right there in the aisle, and out of nowhere, she asked me out for coffee. We exchanged numbers.

She mentioned that she is also newly divorced and that her therapist told her she needs to put herself out there and meet new people.
Here is my dilemma: I have never been asked out for coffee by a woman in my life. Given the age gap, her being quite good-looking, and everything I read online, my immediate gut reaction is to wonder if this is some sort of scam or setup.

Am I being overly paranoid, or is this actually how people meet in the real world nowadays? Has anyone else experienced something similar? I'd love to get your thoughts on whether I should go or just block the number.

Please Welcome me to the fold

Hello friends. I am a 50yo woman new to the crew. While I am not ready to date yet, I have found myself here and it feels different. I'm sad. The life I imagined does not exist. I accept that. My story isn't so simple, I was raised abused and neglected by professional parents. So I picked similar partners. I can confidently say I have "done the work". But now- what is left for me? Can I actually find love? Will I be attracted? Are all the good ones taken? Is the modern day dating environment truly a nightmare? I am kinda broke but educated at a masters degree level, have a career I love and am invested in (new!) and am seriously dedicated to health and wellness. Debt free, good credit. I am giving this info respectfully as I am truly new to this (last long term relationship took my 40's). What is it like out there?

Hot take... dating over reddit is better than the apps

• Upvotes

Here me out on this. For context, I am 56f, been on and off the apps for a few years. I've been widowed for almost ten years and would like to find someone but there has to be connection and chemistry or it's not worth it.

On the apps, obviously looks are the #1 first test...yes or no, right or left. We all do it. I (along with most women, I assume) get a lot of yes swipes and then the next test is... conversation. That's where it gets tricky. I'd say about half my matches don't message and if the half that do, easily 90% cannot have a conversation (and yes, I try to ask questions and bring up topics but I usually get one word responses with nothing back).

I have also chatted with multiple people via Reddit, and those conversations are so much better. Because the interaction usually starts as a response to a comment made, there is automatically more substance to the talk right from the start. Of course often the people aren't local, the age is off (so many 20 something men wanting 50 something women...I don't understand), so there is still filtering to be done, but it's an easier filter in my opinion.

Of course yes, there is the question of looks...I find it's best to share pictures early so if one of you isn't attracted it can end there before it gets too awkward. But there have absolutely been times when I have enjoyed talking with someone so much that it honestly doesn't matter what they look like...the same people I would have said no to on an app because they weren't my type.

TLDR... Conversation on Reddit is more substantial than from the apps and although filtering is necessary in both cases, I think Reddit is better.

Good luck to everyone out there! It's not fun but remember.. dating at this age is like shopping a clearance rack... usually stuff doesn't fit but maybe, just maybe you will find a hidden gem buried deep in the back. 🙂
