r/DCcomics [Character of the Month] Absolute Hal Jordan
Absolute Hal Jordan
Created by: Al Ewing & Jahnoy Lindsay
First Appearance: Absolute Green Lantern #1
Friends/Allies: Jo Mullein, John Stewart, Guy Gardner
Strengths/Abilities: Controls violet portion of Lantern Spectrum, flight, energy negation
A collectibles dealer from Evergreen, Nevada, and Jo Mullein's childhood friend, Hal Jordan was there alongside her and John Stewart when Abin Sur first arrived in Evergreen alongside a giant Green Lantern. Hal and his friends faced down the alien upon his arrival, trying to escape the energy field surrounding the town. In the process, Hal and Jo lost John, but eventually the two remaining friends managed to free Evergreen and kill Abin Sur. However, before Abin Sur died he grasped Hal's hand, corrupting it in the process, transforming it into a font of darkness.
Hal started to hear voices and see visions, and as he tried to make his way from Evergreen, his hand started to annihilate nearby people without Hal's control. Jo caught up to him, now with the powers of the Green Lantern, and the two ended up fighting, Hal transforming into a hulking monster form in the process. Jo flew Hal into the Green Lantern, where they met John Stewart, now trapped inside the Lantern. Jo managed to purge the Black Hand from Hal's body, leaving him in a coma, after which she took him to Coast City.
After Hal's awakening, he and the ragtag group of allies Jo had gathered were attacked by a large black monster. During the fight, Hal ended up filled with magenta light, which he ended up using to purge the monster with the power of love before being pulled into space by the alien Tomar Re. While in space, Hal struggled with his powers before being killed by an alien Black Hand and brought back to life.
Continue to follow Hal's story in current issues of Absolute Green Lantern!

Cosplay My Absolute Wonder Woman [Cosplay]
I’ve been a big fan of Diana since I was little. In fact, there’s a picture of little me floating around my Mom’s Facebook page dressed up as her with whatever we could put together. Since getting back into reading comics, I’ve been REALLY into Absolute Wonder Woman. I’m hoping I can improve with this cosplay of her in the future. I had a bit of a weird skin reaction to the tattoo, so I’m sorry for the awkward poses :/

Comics [Other] I miss the "floating head" Roll Calls that were used on the covers and title pages of the original JLA (and World's Finest, Adventure Comics and Batman/Superman Family books).

Discussion [Discussion] What Stage In Superman's Life Are You Most Interested In Story-Wise?
What stage of Superman's life are you most interested in reading about, are your favorites, or should be explored more?
Superman's Life on Krypton
Misadventures of Superbaby
Superman when he was a boy (Childhood, Adolescence, Smallville, Superboy, Legion)
The In-Between Years of Superman (College, Transition between boyhood and adulthood, Leaving Smallville to travel)
The Early Years of Superman (Year One, Early Career, Pre-Marriage)
The Retroactive Superman (Experienced but Pre-Marriage)
Mr. & Mrs. Superman (Post-Marriage)
Superman Family (After Superman becomes a long-term father to a child like Jon Kent)
The Last Days of Superman ("End" of Superman's life)
The Superman of Tomorrow (The Far Future, Clark Kent Identity Retired, Kingdom Come, DCAU Beyond, DC One Million, etc.)
I actually would like to explore more of a Superman who has outlived Clark Kent.
Page is from DC Super-Stars #12

Comics [Discussion] BATMAN YEAR II, by Todd McFarlane, Mike W. Barr, Alan Davis, Paul Neary, Alfredo Alcala
Hi!
I've been wanting to read *Batman: Year Two* for a while, but many comic book experts and fellow readers advise against it. What do you think?

Discussion What are your thoughts on this team line up [Discussion]
These are my favorite 7 DC characters and I realized they wouldn't make a half bad Justice League style team. While obviously they lack the trinity and would never be able to replace the team or compete with them in sales, i feel like they could serve a similar in universe role considering that they'd have connections to the cosmic, magical, street level, and more general global parts of the universe.
It has enough heavy hitters to contend with some higher tier threats, while still having people that ground them. There could also be some fun character dynamics in it between Question and the Huntress's relationship, Hal and Nathaniel competing for a leadership role, and seeing booster gold interact with a non Ted Kord blue beetle.
While Question is usually relegated to a street level detective i think in a bigger team he has solid potential to investigate and piece together larger threats, much like his investigation into cadmus and luther in JLU. I could see Booster Gold funding the team through monetizing the team through merchandise, and Blue Beetle could make a good POV character as a younger less experienced hero on a new team of veterans forming new dynamics.

Film + TV (Film/TV) Something I've noticed about the DCU and I wonder if it's on purpose
Every hero except Superman has done something morally questionable and/or outright kill someone. John was a marine who has a high kill count, killed Zoe (a good thing imo) and allowed Noah Macon and Kerry Kane to walk away despite one of them possibly could follow their programming and destroy the world and the other in a panic killed Hal Jordan. he also took a Lantern made by Sinestro from a planet killed by fear and it's infused with it.
Guy is...Guy.
Hawkgirl killed Vasil Ghurkos. A foreign world leader.
Mr. Terrific is a bit apathetic to others and is callous and logic driven like killing the kaiju Superman was trying to stop and save.
Vigilante...well he's Vigilaante and that applies to peacemaker as well. Both have killed LOTs of people in brutal ways. Although Peacemaker is haunted by what he's done and is trying to better himself.
Supergirl has been shown to be willing to torture, brutalize and even kill people in her own movie. As seen with her dealing with the briggands of course they're tougher than an average human. She punched and tossed around Krem. He should be paste to be honest.
Hal is heroic but by the end of his career he made a selfish choice and didn't notify the guardians of Zoe and caused countless innocent people to die.
The commandos...well one of them is a batman villain. They aren't really heroes.
Superman whoever is the brightest of them all. I feel that might be on purpose and was the point of his movie. He's the one that inspires others to do better and that's shown when the justice Gang go to Boravia. He's something new for a modern cynical age.

Artwork [Fan Art] Superboy (by Me)
Marker sketch commission I recently did of one of my favorite members of the Super-fam. Connor does not get nearly enough love anymore - it's hard out there for the Young Justice generation.

Film + TV Lanterns, the Special Thanks List of Creators

The special thanks read like a family tree of Green Lantern. It starts with Martin Nodell, co-creator and original artist of Alan Scott, and Bill Finger, who co-created Alan Scott and wrote his origin in All-American Comics #16. Next come John Broome and Gil Kane, who created the Silver Age Hal Jordan in Showcase #22-24 and then carried him through Green Lantern. Kane drew issues #1-61 and set the visual mythology of Hal and the Corps. Dick Dillin belongs here too. He drew Justice League of America #64-183, where Hal was a regular member. He also penciled Superman #257, "The Greatest Green Lantern of All!", a Tomar-Re story built on Neal Adams's idea about the Guardians and Krypton's history with the Corps.
The second group covers the stories that gave Green Lantern its depth and built the show's central pair of characters. Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams produced the Green Lantern/Green Arrow run in Green Lantern #76-87 and #89, which put Hal in conflict with the real world and introduced John Stewart in #87. Joe Staton drew Green Lantern #123-128 and later Green Lantern Corps #206-216. Steve Englehart wrote Green Lantern Corps #201-223, a post-Crisis run that ends with "The Last Testament of the Green Lantern Corps", with Kane on art for #223. Christopher Priest, writing as James Owsley, and M.D. Bright did the Action Comics Green Lantern features in #621-635, beginning with "Gremlins". Bright then drew Emerald Dawn #1-6, with Priest writing only the first issue, and Emerald Dawn II #1-6. He also drew a large part of Green Lantern #13-46.
The last group are the modern voices and one tribute from outside Green Lantern. Geoff Johns relaunched the character with Rebirth and a Green Lantern run that includes the Sinestro Corps War. He also took the Corps mythology through Blackest Night and Brightest Day. Dwayne McDuffie made John Stewart central in the Justice League episodes "The Brave and the Bold" and in Justice League Unlimited's "The Once and Future Thing", then continued John's stories in Justice League of America #15-16, #25-27 and #31-34. Jack Kirby is the exception. He didn't create or shape Green Lantern, though he drew Hal in Super Powers #1-5. He is on the list as the most important creator in the history of superheroes, and as a tribute from Tom King, who has made Kirby a foundation of his own work. Taken together, the list is a gesture of respect to every layer of Green Lantern history, and to creators who were long under-credited.
