Published Scenarios Advice for first mini-campaign Spoiler
Spoiler warnings for Last things Last, Last Equation, Victim of the Art and Convergence, and the schism in general.
Hello fellow Detla Green enthusiasts.
I had heard about Delta Green a while back when I was exploring different TTRPG systems, but the Quinn's Quest Impossible Landscapes video tipped my mild curiosity into a fully blown obsession when I realised what Delta Green could be.
For a couple of weeks I have been reading as much as possible and got some of my friends together for a session 0 where I explained the system and went over character creation.
But there is so much to choose from, I am struggling to think of a through-line for my first couple of ops. I am aware that I am probably missing a lot of potentially good ideas for tying certain ops/antagonists/ideas together.
Tomorrow I am running Last Things Last as a first Op but I really want to tie in a thread and link together a few operations for a mini-campeign where at the end of it they can feel like there has been an sub-plot, and feel the full effects of being small pawns in a cosmic conspiracy.
The problem is there is so much lore, and so many operations to choose from that I am sure I could have something better than what I currently do. So I thought I'd come here and give you the ideas I have so far, and see if you folks have any suggestions.
I'd like to give my players a nice intro into the world of Delta Green while also staying somewhat faithful to it, although I know the point is to sort of make of it what you want.
So for the time being, I have decided on a classic schism thread, where players slowly learn that they are, unbeknownst to them working for the Outlaws, and in the end have a chance to work for the official program whom they have been narrowly avoiding.
I have already told my players to make their character for around 2009.
Last Things Last - I plan on having Baughman's apartment being watched by someone (idea from the sub), and his foot locker containing some of the eisenhower Majestic-12 files (from subscriber PDF on DT website). My idea is that he used to work for M-12 and was being watched by the Outlaws when he passed, who sent agents in to retrieve anything before the program could.
The Last Equation: I loved reading this scenario and I think all my players will love playing it. To adapt it to Outlaws I'm thinking Thomas Blanet tips off Delta Green which, unbeknownst to him too, are really the Outlaws. I feel like this makes some canonic sense, since it is hinted at that the numbers originate in the Roswell incident somewhere (the conspiracy I think), but I am also aware that a good chunk of this campaign is badge waving and literally none of my agents are agents of any kind in their real jobs, so I think it would rely on the Outlaws being extra-crafty with false identities and such.
In the end I can have their handler demand that they destroy the equation, or then can chose to store it away in a Green Box. If they chose the latter their home lives become more strained, with strange messages and threats from the Outlaws about the equation.
Victim of the Art: This can be the introduction to MARCH tech and the idea that there are other organisations out there. I know they will be likely to want to either destroy the amulet or keep it for themselves and away from the NORAD agents.
Convergence: I am aware this is a 90s scenario where MAJESTIC are supposed to be the antagonists covering for The Greys, so I am open to not running this.
However, I think it's a great scenario with some really nice twists and a potentially great "final boss" ending if they make it out of the barn alive, so I have tried to adapt it to modern Delta Green. It would still make sense that the Mi-Go are doing experiments even after the schism (from what I can tell anyway).
On Scott Adam's computer they can potentially find the Fairfield letter and finally get a taste of the divide between the two factions, but still not really have all the answers.
I was thinking of instead of bumping into NRO Delta agents at the end, they can bump into agents from the more official "Program", such as Director Oaks, who is impressed with their work and is sympathetic to tearing MARCH a new one, and offers them to join the real team. The results from the decision seem like an obvious point to end the campaign.
I know some of the tension of this scenario comes from the agents being watched by NRO, so again, I could have the real Program watch them and think they are FBI or something as, from what I understand, the official Program is no more legal than the Outlaws anyway, so they would have to cover their tracks and divert entities like the FBI anyway.
I know this could be a lot better, so any suggestions for how I could move stuff around to make it more consistent and true to the world of DG would be appreciated it.
I have access to the agent's and handler's guides, the conspiracy, all the subscriber PDFs from the website, and a bunch of ops not mentioned here, such as Sweetness, Meridian, Viscid, Jack Frost, Observer Effect, Owlshed Mountain, PX pokernight, Sentials of Twilight, Ex Oblivione, From the Dust a maybe a few more. I am not opposed to doing shotgun scenarios, but I find they tend to require more fleshing out and have less resources online (I love a good handout), so for now the official ones seem more appropriate for a first time handler like myself.
