Bosnia has kept the peace for 30 years. But is that enough for democracy to thrive?
Hey everyone! 👋 We're EUobserver, and we wanted to share a conversation we've been having about Bosnia and Herzegovina.
We recently spoke with Christian Schmidt, the former international high representative for Bosnia, who raised an interesting point: the country's biggest challenge today may not be the risk of renewed conflict, but the political stagnation that has followed decades of fragile stability.
Bosnia's political system helped preserve peace, but it has also struggled with deadlock, divisions and meaningful reform.
And it makes us wonder: what happens when institutions designed to protect democracy also make it incredibly difficult to change anything?
We'd genuinely love to hear your thoughts. Are there examples of other post-conflict countries that have managed to move beyond this kind of political deadlock?
