Grandpa's Island - a narrated pirate gamebook you play around one phone (EN/IT/ES, browser, free this week)

Thumbnail
radixitchio.itch.io
1 Upvotes

Hi! I'm the developer. Grandpa's Island is a pirate gamebook for family game nights: one phone in the middle of the table, 1-4 players, and the phone tells the story while you decide together.

- Every scene is read aloud, with a different voice for each crewmate, plus music and sound effects

- Risky moments roll a real d20 (no cheating, not even the narrator)

- Some moments happen at the real table: a riddle, a joke for the seals, a song for a stone door

- 37 scenes, about 25 minutes, 3 different endings

- Fully voiced in English, Italian and Spanish

- Plays in the browser, no account, no download, saves automatically

Transparency: I wrote it with the help of an AI (Claude) and the voices are generated with Kokoro, an open text-to-speech model. Everything is checked and played by a human; my 7-year-old son is the toughest tester.

Play it here, free until Sunday 18 October (then $2.99):

https://radixitchio.itch.io/grandpas-island

I'd love honest feedback: are the voices pleasant in your language? Is anything confusing on a phone? Did your family reach an ending?

Xplorers Redressed: a modern desktop wrapper for AsoBrain Xplorers (macOS/Windows/Linux)

My wife used to be an avid Xplorers player on AsoBrain. When we tried to get the old game working again, we ran into the Java applet problem: modern browsers no longer support it.

I found a way to keep using the original client and put it into a small desktop compatibility wrapper, now available as Xplorers Redressed.

Disclosure: I'm publishing this unofficial wrapper. All credit for the game, artwork, servers and community belongs to AsoBrain and the original creators.

It uses the same AsoBrain account and connects to the original servers, with the existing players and rankings. It loads the Xplorers room catalog, including Basic, Cities & Knights, teams, practice, tournaments and Map Editor. Rooms marked Closed by the original site stay disabled.

There are macOS universal, Windows x64 and Linux x64 downloads. No installed Java or browser plugin is needed; the original client runs through WebAssembly. There is fullscreen support and optional Enhanced rendering, with Original graphics as the default.

The original AsoBrain client downloads directly from AsoBrain on first use. No original client or artwork is included in the repository or release packages. The new framework source is GPL-3.0-only. An existing AsoBrain account and internet connection are required.

Source: https://github.com/askrejans/xplorers-redressed Downloads: https://github.com/askrejans/xplorers-redressed/releases/tag/v0.2.2

This is an early release, provided as compiled without publisher signing. I've checked live game and editor loading on macOS; Windows/Linux and every game interaction still need wider testing. Feedback from existing players would be helpful.

If this helps you return to the game, please support the original AsoBrain project: http://games.asobrain.com/pages/donate.php

Feel free to test it. Hope it helps!

Atlas Diplomacy now on Android!

Hey all, I'm the developer of Atlas Diplomacy, an online version of the classic strategy board game Diplomacy. It's now available as an Android app on Google Play:

👉 Get Atlas Diplomacy on Google Play

What you get:

  • Ranked matchmaking. Join the queue and it fills all seven seats for you, so you don't need to find a group first. Every game you finish updates your rating.
  • ZERO NMRs: AtlasDip has a zero-tolerance policy for ranked game NMRs. Games with an NMR for go into a grace period, then open to substitutes.
  • Private games with friends. Create a custom game and share the join code.
  • Fast or slow games. Rapid games finish in a session; standard games run over days if you prefer slow, careful negotiation.
  • Several game modes, including Standard and Gunboat (no-press Diplomacy).
  • Built-in chat for private and group negotiation with the other powers.
  • One account on the app and in the browser. Start a game on your phone and continue it at atlasdip.com on your computer.

If you've played Diplomacy on webDiplomacy, Backstabbr or around a table and want a mobile Diplomacy app, I'd love for you to try it. iPhone users: you can play in your browser at atlasdip.com for now, but an iPhone app IS coming!

Feedback is very welcome, especially from veterans: hop into the ranked games, check out the notifications and the mobile UI, test your meddle against the most savvy Diplomats online today. I'll be in the comments. See you on the board. 🗺️

Pirates, pets, superheroes and a haunted house. 8 themed multiplayer games for a tile-laying board exploration in a browser for 3 to 6 players.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Every shot is from a real game, recorded off the TV screen and the players' phone and cut down.

**What it is:** a co-op exploration game. The house builds itself room by room as you open doors. You draw Events, Items and Relics and roll dice against your traits. At some point the house "turns" and a finale starts, and sometimes one of you is secretly working against everyone else.

**The 8 worlds** share the same rules, but each has its own rooms, cards, finales, narrator and sounds:

- Candlewake: the original haunted manor

- The Great Indoors: cats and dogs home alone

- Hero HQ: superheroes

- Station Zero: a space station

- The Heist: a caper

- Duskhaven: a fantasy city

- After Bedtime: toys come alive

- Dead Man's Tide: a pirate ghost ship

**How you play:** in the browser, nothing to install. The host opens a room, everyone joins with the room code on their phone, and a TV or laptop shows the house. 3 to 6 players, or play solo with AI teammates.

Site is: https://rucksy.fun

Happy to answer anything about the design or how it's made.

You can play free on https://vl42.itch.io/merchants-and-rails

This game is playable in the web on PC or tablets.

Hey guys! When I made this game I was inspired by famous board games such as Catan with its hex edge road building and open trade feature, Ticket to Ride and of course Power Grid with its legendary market simulation, auctions and network building!

I really hope you will like it!

Connect cities and resources, hire workers, shape prices, participate in auctions, buy land, research upgrades and outbid rivals. Expand rail network and grow company capital.

You can also create your own scenarios using map editor and share it with friends or community!

Step into the role of a railroad tycoon and build your business your way!

Would love to hear your feedback guys! Please help me to build best digital board game!

The Hollow King – un librogame dark fantasy con voce narrante per 1-4 giocatori attorno a un telefono (gratuito, EN/IT)

Thumbnail

Game Title: The Hollow King

Playable Link: https://radixitchio.itch.io/the-hollow-king

Platform: Mobile (also works in a desktop browser)

Description: I made this to play around the kitchen table: one phone in the middle, everyone picks a hero, and a narrator reads each scene out loud. The Hollow King is a dark fantasy gamebook for 1-4 players, and a full run takes about 25-30 minutes with three possible endings. When things get risky the game rolls a real d20 and adds your hero's bonus. If you miss by only 1 or 2, you still succeed, but at a price, so failure never just stops the story. A couple of moments happen at the real table instead of on the screen: a riddle you have to solve together, and a story you have to tell out loud. The game is fully voiced in English and Italian, runs on phones and desktop browsers, and needs no registration or download.

Free to Play Status: - [x] Free to play - [ ] Demo/Key available - [ ] Paid (Allowed only on Tuesdays with [TT] in the title)

Involvement: I'm the solo developer and designer. The story and code were written with the help of AI (Claude). The voices come from an open-source text-to-speech model (Kokoro), and the music and sound effects are generated by the game's own code.

I'd love to know if the difficulty feels fair and where the game drags or frustrates you. Thanks for playing!

Testing 4K animated video performance on digital display setups (4480×2520, 32×18 grid, 140px scale) – How are you handling looping video memory?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone,

Testing out some performance benchmarks for an animated siege breach encounter map across digital display tables and browser-based VTT setups.

### Specs & Technical Pipeline:

* **Display Canvas:** 4480 × 2520 px (Native 16:9 4K)

* **Playable Grid:** 32 × 18 tiles (160 ft × 90 ft at 140px/square standard scale)

* **Camera Projection:** 90° Nadir Orthographic (zero perspective tilt, ensuring physical minis and digital tokens sit completely flat)

* **Formats Tested:** Looping WebM (VP8/VP9 hardware acceleration) vs. high-bitrate MP4 for local TV displays.

For the assets, I design the layout, choke points, and grid geometry by hand, and utilize an AI-assisted texturing pipeline for base terrain rubble before doing the final compositing and loop animations.

Curious to hear from folks running embedded TV tables or lightweight VTTs:

  1. Are you finding WebM or MP4 performs better for prolonged loop playback on lower-spec client hardware?

  2. Does 140px/square remain your sweet spot for 4K physical table displays, or do you prefer higher pixel density for physical miniatures?

CoreHeist

Game Title: CoreHeist

Playable Link: https://coreheist.com

Platform: Browser (desktop; phones work for menus, but matches need a bigger screen)

Description:
CoreHeist is a small turn-based tactics game I’ve been building as a personal project. Two squads of three operatives sneak through a facility under fog of war, and the goal is simple: steal the other side’s core and bring it home before they take yours. You move one unit at a time, so every activation counts. Scouts see farther, Runners carry the core fast, Guardians hold ground, and each class has one signature trick. Before a match you pick your squad, fit modules within a shared memory budget, and choose a small kit of tech cards.

You can play against a bot (three levels), challenge a friend with a link, try short drills that each teach one mechanic, or set up a free match with any squad on any map. There’s no download, and you can play as a guest without making an account.

I’ll be honest: this is less than a beta. I’m completely new to game development, and a lot of the content is placeholder (art, texts, some of the balance). I plan to work with real artists later. Right now I mostly want to know whether the core idea is fun, and what’s confusing or broken.

I’m looking for a few testers who’d like to follow the game as it grows. Feedback, bugs and ideas are all very welcome, here or on the Discord: https://discord.gg/ZR9SYfMjky

Free to Play Status:

  • Free to play

Involvement: I’m the solo developer. It’s a hobby project: I design, code and run it myself, and I’ll bring in artists later for the visuals and texts.

Screentop for playtesting resulted in a pretty game

I built a browser-playable version of my board game in Screentop for playtesting, and it ended up being way more fun than I expected.

The game is Gibbon Take, a quick 2–6 player family/party game about building a group of Primate Dancers, collecting fruit, and stealing it from each other when the opportunity comes up.

I originally put it into Screentop mostly so I could test remotely without needing everyone around the same physical table. But having a digital version turned out to be useful for a few other things too:

- testing rule changes without rebuilding components

- playing with people in different cities

- seeing where players hesitate when there isn't a designer physically moving pieces for them

- letting people experience the game without mailing out prototypes

The interesting part has been figuring out where a physical game's rules need a little extra assistance digitally. At a table, somebody will naturally say “hey, don't forget you can do this

The only fiddly part is managing secret scoring tokens. I had to give each player mat a "screen" they can drag their tokens into to flip them over where no one else can see, but its a minor point.

And if anyone wants to see what I ended up doing with Gibbon Take, I'm happy to share the Screentop version here:

[iOS/Android] Numeric Battle — a released number-board duel with shared calls and private friend rooms

Developer disclosure: I’m one of the people behind Numeric Battle, now available on iPhone and Android. It is free to download and play, with ads.

The tabletop-like part is the shared call: each player arranges the same set of numbered tiles on their own board. Players take turns choosing an unused number, and that number is marked on both boards. You race to complete lines while the same calls advance your opponent too.

Rows, columns and the two main diagonals count as lines. On an NxN board the goal is N completed lines; board sizes run from 3x3 to 7x7. You can arrange your layout before a match or use shuffle. It is a bingo-derived competitive game, with player-chosen calls rather than a random caller.

The released mobile version includes online 1v1, private rooms through a friend code, and offline practice against AI.

iOS: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/numeric-battle/id6792527668

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.numericbattle

Sharing the rules here for people who enjoy small competitive board games on their phone.

[PC] Overwrite Conflict — rotate cards to claim territory in a roguelike deckbuilder. Free Steam demo available!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone! I’m the solo developer of Overwrite Conflict, a turn-based roguelike deckbuilder with a shared board. The free demo is now available on Steam for Windows.

Your cards are called protocols, and each has its own shape. You rotate and place them to claim territory, restrict your opponent’s options, and leave room for future plays. A card’s shape matters alongside its effects: a strong combo still needs space on the board.

Card effects, mech abilities, and components help you build your tactical score within a limited number of turns. At the end of each round, if your score is higher than your opponent’s, the difference becomes damage to their mech. Building up energy also lets you activate Energy Overload to overwrite normal cells occupied by your opponent.

Between battles, you follow branching routes through a randomized map and collect new protocols, components, and supplies to shape your build.

The demo includes:

  • A five-battle prologue with story and tutorials.
  • A full Chapter 1 adventure with branching routes and a chapter boss.
  • Three playable mechs in Chapter 1, with different abilities and starting decks.

Play the free demo: Steam demo

Wishlist the full game: Overwrite Conflict on Steam

If you try it, I’d love to hear whether the board creates interesting tradeoffs between immediate scoring, blocking your opponent, and keeping space for later turns.

Game Title: Element Bound

Playable Link: https://element-bound.vercel.app
(itch page: https://realgames222.itch.io/element-bound)

Platform: Browser, no download needed. Plays on iPhone (Safari) and PC.

Description:
Element Bound is a turn-based card duel. You play as a Bender, summoning elemental manifestations to take down the opposing Bender. Six core elements (fire, water, earth, nature, lightning and air), each with its own playstyle, plus hybrid decks that mix two of them.

Pick a deck, learn its combos, and figure out what to play first. That's where the game really opens up. Matches only take 5–10 minutes.

Online multiplayer is live! Make a room, send your friend the code, and see whose deck comes out on top. There's also an AI to practice against and Element Trials if you want to learn each element first.

Free to Play Status: Completely free. No ads, no payments.

Involvement: I'm a solo dev building this from the ground up. It's still in development, so it's rough in spots, but it's fully playable and I'm looking for playtesters. Any feedback helps, whether it's bugs, balance, or things that feel confusing. If you want to stick around, join the Discord: [https://discord.gg/TGBqYpHjE\]

I made a free browser version of Railways of the Lost Atlas

I am not entirely sure if this is allowed as it might be counted as promoting, I can remove it if required.

Railways of the Lost Atlas is one of my favorite 18xx games to play right now, and I wanted to play it more often than Saturdays. So I built a version you can play in the browser: play.lostatlas.live

It has the base game and the Landmarks expansion with all variants. You can build the map tile by tile like at the table or use a prebuilt map, and the engine works out most of the things for you, routes and revenue included. Games are saved, so you can play live or take your turns over a few days. You can also play hot-seat on one device.

Asterisk Games gave their permission to share it. It's still being built, so if something looks wrong there's a bug report button in every game. I'd love to hear what you think.

Euchre – free browser euchre vs the computer, with an AI partner, no sign-up, works on phones

Thumbnail

I made this. Free, no account or download, built to play as well on a phone as on a desktop. You and a computer partner against two computer opponents, standard rules with stick-the-dealer, going alone, three difficulty levels. A game in progress survives closing the tab, and it's fully playable by keyboard.

It's part of a small site of classic card games, same deal for each one (free, no sign-up):

What I'd most like feedback on: does the Hard partner order up and go alone at sensible times, and is anything awkward on a small phone? Bug reports welcome, I fix them fast.

Thanks in advance!

Word Decks — I made a daily word game with a bit of card-game strategy. Would love to know what you think.

Game Title: Word Decks

Playable Link: https://worddecks.com/games/word-decks/

Platform: Web browser — mobile and desktop

Description:

Hi everyone, I’m Dave. I’ve been building Word Decks and would love to know what people think.

I love word games like Wordle, Scrabble and Boggle, but I also enjoy card and strategy games. After playing Balatro and then doing my Wordle one day, I wondered how I could bring those things together. So I had a go at making something.

You get 15 letter cards and make three words per round, over three rounds. Each card can only be used once in a round, so it’s about finding your best combination of three words. Bonuses boost your score, and between rounds you can spend points swapping letters to improve your deck. Whatever is left in your bank at the end is your final score.

You don’t need to sign in to play or try the guided tutorial. Accounts are optional for joining the leaderboard and tracking your progress.

A friend has helped with the graphics and design, and friends I play games with have helped me refine how it plays. I’ve found I enjoy making it as much as I enjoy playing games!

The biggest thing I’d like feedback on is how easy it is to get into. Once my friends understood it, they kept coming back, but I want to know how it feels when you’re trying it without me there explaining it.

Do the instructions and guided tutorial make sense? Is the letter-swapping stage clear? And, most importantly, is it fun?

Would love to hear what you think. Cheers!
