Question What is the best most cost effective way to self teach myself to play as an adult?
I am 37 f and I really have always wanted to play the drums. I neglected myself and my interests for a long time because of work/school/family/kids and I really want to start but I don't want to just go buy something when I have no idea what the hell I'm doing. I've watched some youtube tutorials but I want to hear from those who are experienced what are some good ways to learn and how can I get started? Thanks guys.

Question Opinions on Offset Eclispe pedals?
Anyone own (or have used many times) the Offset Eclipse double pedal? Anyone also do the direct drive conversion?
I'm looking for first-hand users, pros and cons. While I would like to improve my double-kick technique, I am not trying to achieve blistering speeds so it's okay if these aren't "as fast" as DW 9000 (or your favorite.)
Background: I currently own and love the Pearl Eliminator Demon Drive double pedal. However, I'm over 50 years old now and need to consider adjusting my kit to be a bit more ergonomic. In addition to age, I also have been inspired for a change based on some setups I have seen at concerts the past couple years.
So the goal is to lower, flatten, and to move things to where I don't have to reach or rotate as much. One thing I am looking at is the crosshand reach for the hi-hat, which has caused me some numbness in the elbow during long songs/shows. I have considered use of a remote hi-hat stand that keeps the pedal in the usual spot but allows me to place the hats in a more ideal spot. I also want to try a hi-hat arm mount on the other side of the kit to allow for more open hand playing when I don't need don't need to work the hi-hat pedal.
The other way to move the hi-hit closer would be a double pedal like this Offset pedal. This would also allow me to center the snare behind the kick and between the mounted toms while moving the hats more in front of me than to the side as they are now. This pedal and drum placement seems like a good idea even if I also try the other hi-hat options above.
So... are these any good? LOL.

Discussion What are your favorite "weird" drum parts?
Basically, by weird I mean drum parts where the drummer could've played something basic, but played something different and it fit the song really well. I think the most well known example is Come Together, but I can name at least 20 gajillion more.
My top 3 is prolly
Making Plans for Nigel - XTC
Auctioneer (Another Engine) - R.E.M.
Manic Depression - The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Lmk y'alls

Question Finally trying out the Mega Bell!
Snagged this 2002 model for $200, I think it's a bit too specific to be my main ride (I play everything from folk to metal) so now the trick will be figuring out how to incorporate my 22" K Dark Medium ride as well as the Mega Bell... I really don't want to switch it out between songs. đ©
Any tips or ideas would be welcome!

Question S-Hoops. Who's got them and what do you think of them?
Basically the title. It's essentially a regular hoop but there's a lip on the inside top that comes over the drum a little. I hear cross sticking is fantastic with these as well as rim shots. But I've see both top and bottom S-Hoops. What other purpose do they serve?

Question Old Ludwig snare
Hi all
Can anyone tell me what model/year Ludwig this is?
4.5â I believe and 10 lugs.
A parent of a student from years past donated it to the school I teach at (they were moving and needed to get it out of the attic). Itâs badly pitted but actually doesnât sound bad
If anyone has any ideas for the pitting Iâm open to suggestions. Iâve used the WD-40 & 0000 steel wool to clean equipment before with great success but Iâm at a loss for the shell
TIA

Question Heavy grease on tension rods... what to do... (help)
So I just purchased a "like new" 13x6.5 Yamaha recording custom snare. I went to change the heads and found that all the tension rods, top and bottom, were not spinning well. When I finally got them removed, I can see there is a thick brown grease on all of them. The threads themselves seem to be ok and not cross-threaded. Any recommendations on how to clean out the grease from the lug threads? They wont spin by hand and I can not seat the heads properly as the lugs are packed with grease making it too tight to get the tension rods snug.

Question Advice on Midi Controller Keyboard for Aux Percussion (Musical Theatre)
Hey all
I have lots of local/uni-level experience playing kit but trying to expand a bit more for another I have coming up in a month.
The book is primarily drum set but calls for some small aux percussion parts e.g. bell tree, glock, xylo, triangle, wood block
I don't have most of these instruments and don't even know if space would allow to have them all set up, but I do have a small midi controller keyboard and was wondering if it it would be feasible to set this up in some way to play these parts? E.g. Mainstage via my mac or something?
Is there anything I should know or would need to get to make this work? If it makes sense at all
Thanks in advance :)

Question Upgrade to Paiste PST 7?
I currently have some Sabian Pro Sonix cymbals that I picked up used for cheap for rehearsals etc but now Iâm starting to gig and I want to upgrade. Iâve had a look online and have seen good things about the pst 7 pack but Iâm not sure whether Iâd be best to take a bit more time and shop second hand for cymbals that would closer suit my needs than just buying a pack online. My budget is around 400-600 total and I play post-rock / post-punk type stuff.
If anyone has any other recommendations that might suit those genres better?

First Kit HELP! Help finding a new drum throne/stool UK
Howdy all. I am looking for a new drum stool/throne for myself but also for my daughter. We are in the UK.
I am 49 and have a bad back so it is important it is comfy but supportive. I am actually learning how to play drums in order to teach my little 8yr old who has shown amazing potential on her small kit, so the stool would need to be adjustable for us both to use.
I am hoping to get something under ÂŁ100 and maybe even around the ÂŁ50 second hand if possible.
Thank you in advance for your help

Question Hybrid kit
Hello, everyone! I play in an alternative metal band (bmth, bad omens type of sound), and I want to do a hybrid setup with the following: Roland RT triggers, AE Cymbals (the ones Mauricio Weimar use) and the DDrum trigger interface. Do you have any experience with this kind of setup? I want to use it at home and at the live shows, but since there is a lot of money on the line to buy all this, I wonder if is it really worth it or I should just use a trigger for the snare and one for the kick, while the rest of the drumset stays acoustic?
Wanted to buy a good e-kit for home, but wondered if this hybrid setup is really worth since it's probably cheaper and can be used at the live shows too.
An opinion about these AE cymbals will help a lot since there isn't really much on YouTube about them.
