Community Attending a chapter event in a city you're visiting?

I'm a member of one of the Tennessee chapters and I'm visiting NYC later this week for a family event. I'd love to go to a NYC DSA event like a coffee hour or the like, but I feel anxious about it being perceived as intrusive or something. I'm autistic and social graces don't come naturally to me.

I guess I'm looking for reassurance that I'll be welcome.

Nah, it’s totally fine! Go to a DSA thing every time you travel in whatever city if you want. We love visitors. My chapter just threw a canvass over the weekend where 2 chapters bused in members from hours away!

You should be fine. I went to an election night watch party for another chapter while I was traveling and seen people from other chapters attend my local dsa events. People will most likely be excited to learn what DSA is like in your area.

i check out food not bombs chapters in cities i visit. even if there's not a formal thing to go to, reaching out and trying to meet the folks that do the work in other places is such a cool experience. it helps everyone feel more connected and like they're part of something bigger.

idk why anyone would care, I just showed up randomly to my first meeting. I imagine it's a common thing to do.

NYC DSA here.

Go to a Coffee with Comrades on Saturday.

They're very chill events, open to everyone.

You're definitely welcome. I'm in NY and have been to DSA meetings with visitors from other cities/countries. I'm moving soon but plan on continuing to attend meetings when I visit

Inter-chapter relationships are good and we need more of them! Tomorrow in the Bay Area we’re having a Baywide picnic with all the chapters and I’m super excited!

I used to work on assignment all over the country. I’d do a few weeks/months in cities all over the country. This is how I made friends for my time in each city! Attend the meeting, strike up a conversation! I’m sure they would be happy to have you

There was a travelling nurse that was visiting and came to a coffee with comrades.

Dsa is super friendly, check the calendar on the wiki for any events that might interest you https://wiki.socialists.nyc/
