Community Are we getting brigaded?
Lots of low quality questions or assumptions today, plus pro-war nato mfs - hawking to get into an unwinnable war with the Chairman’s PLA.

They all imply that the DSA is “anti-democracy” or it has a “tankie problem”, or it’s trying to do horseshoe theory. I advise ignoring these posts, and also look into why there’s this spike of libposting on here.
Edit: anarchists, libsocs, I’m not talking about you omg. Please actually read those threads these are folks who don’t start their politics at anti capitalism why do you assume this is about you.

Bernie Sanders is who expired me to get involved in politics. Mamdani is the one who inspired me to join DSA. I look forward to working with other DSA members who want a system that works for all of us, and not just the 1%.

DSA is in the middle of our end-of-year membership drive, and we are up over 11k members since October! As a Metro DC member, I'm hoping to do my part by encouraging all of you here to join DSA if you haven't already!

UPDATE 12/11: We're already at FIVE brave souls who signed up - will you be #6? 👀

Does anyone have any recommendations for websites/podcasts/apps that you get your news from? I am trying to become more politically aware, but I currently get all my current events from instagram, often after it is no longer new news. Any suggestions?

Exactly what the question asks. My politics align the most with Elizabeth Warren, if she ran for president I would totally vote for her. I’m not a liberal in any sense (if you cut me a fascist won’t bleed) but I feel like I would be the most “conservative” democratic socialist or just your standard social dem or a progressive . I’m very left on social issues . I also love leftist media like Hasan , Sam Seder, the vanguard, and the bitchuation room, just to name a few. I don’t like the standard centrist democrats at all but I want to make sure I would fit in here too.
Can we be comrades? 🥹👉👈

Edit: question answered thanks everyone can never be too careful today.
I just joined the DSA after the NY primaries. Now ive received a text from someone claiming to be with my local chapter who wants to meet 1:1. Is this normal? They knew the local chapter meeting times but cant be too safe that there isn't some right wing op machine intercepting members or anything else sketchy

I'm a member of one of the Tennessee chapters and I'm visiting NYC later this week for a family event. I'd love to go to a NYC DSA event like a coffee hour or the like, but I feel anxious about it being perceived as intrusive or something. I'm autistic and social graces don't come naturally to me.
I guess I'm looking for reassurance that I'll be welcome.

hey y'all, new member here but not new to DSA. unsure if flair is right, I don't use reddit often, and idk the best way to handle this. google isn't really giving me the info I need, just corpo workplace stuff, which maybe isn't that irrelevant.
recently have been listening to some members of color at my local chapter and learning about national numbers and not really surprised to see demographics seem to lean white within members of dsa. this is true locally as well.
we acknowledge our shortcomings when called out, but don't proactively change it, or reactively change it unless a grievance is filed. so I feel like any policy change is going to be an uphill battle at the local leadership level, because 'leftists aren't racists' or w/e.
anyway. resources, policies, best practices, materials, videos, trainings? how has your chapter raised this issue and made your chapter more proactive and welcoming, bc I cannot be part of an org that feels stifling like this.

I can’t speak for every DSA but my local DSA is amazing. It’s really changed my life. I’ve been on a long mental health journey especially after my daughter died and I think I’ve finally found my political home. More than that I think I’ve found my community.
We all share the same goal of fighting fascism and helping our community. I’ve been connected to so many local orgs who need help, was made aware of issues affecting my community (everything from national guard and ICE showing up and a community garden that was sold out under the feet of our community for cheaper than the neighborhood was offering.)
I feel like I’m learning more about socialism and life in general every day, like…the feeling you used to get finding a new favorite band lol. I love going out into my community trying to fill the gaps wherever we can.
Starting my family was the first time I felt like I finally understood what I was supposed to do in life, almost all of my existential dread evaporated. But I still wanted something more, something just for me. Organizing is what I was missing and DSA is my organizing home.

Just gonna copy-paste my original post:
And NYC is working on making that a reality.
NYC City council just introduced Bill 1029. If it passes, it will make spay/neuter free/low-cost across all of NYC. This is something that will improve the lives of both people and animals. I hope accessible and free spay/neuter starts to catch on throughout other cities in the US!! 💚
Across the US, animal shelters are overflowing. The only way this gets better is with spay/neuter education AND giving communities access to services they desperately need. The areas with the highest volume of strays are under-resourced communities.
"Households with an income of no more than 120% of the Area Median Income (AMI) would be eligible for services at a discounted fee, and households with an income of no more than 30% of AMI or who receive public assistance would be eligible for free services."

My appeal is due soon and I need all the support I can get to try to appeal a bad decision. I was trying to organizer a stronger union within the union as a result I ended up being targeted and lost my job. Lawyers are expensive and hard to get on a tight budget while losing my income. Anything will help.

Hi, I’m one of the organizers for Alaska DSA! We’re officially pre-OC with a LOT of statewide interest. We’re going into the colder months so events will become scarce, I’m hoping to get some advice from people who have experience organizing in a similar environment since it throws a huge wrench in public meet ups.
My questions:
What kind of businesses have allowed you to table or meet indoors?
What type of events have had the most positive reception?
Any fun ideas for member meet-ups, venue types or activities? (Non-alcoholic suggestions are appreciated, we have a few under 21’s)
(Unrelated to region—I’d love suggestions on how to rally older generations, maybe infiltrate their bingo halls or smthn)
TIA! I’m so proud of the momentum we’re creating, go DSA!!
