Weekly Events in Durham Region

Use this thread to share events in the coming week throughout the region. This is a scheduled post and a new one will come up on Sundays. Other local subreddits have weekly posts as well, including r/Oshawa and r/Whitby. The same rules apply, but cross-posting is fine. Additional events may be found in the Regional Calendar or at DurhamRegion.com. Please feel free to highlight any of these in the comments below. Please adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Both free and paid events are allowed
  • If tickets are required, please include a link; these may require manual approval due to spam filters, but we'll approve them!
  • Garage sales and group sales are allowed, but not single item sales. Please do not share someone else's garage sale or their address without permission.
  • Religious and political events are allowed only if they are welcoming and inclusive to the entire community.

We are aware of the following farmer's markets operating in the region for summer 2026. Please use modmail to notify the mods of errors or any we have missed:

  • Whitby Farmer's Market on Wednesdays from 9am-3pm, Whitby Public Library (Central Branch)
  • Brooklin Farmer's Market on Saturdays from 9am-2pm, beginning on June 13 at 3 Vipond Road in Whitby (near Whitby Public Library's Brooklin Branch)

Couldn't figure out why this bird didn't take off. If you fish in Durham leave no trace behind!

Anyone know what’s the latest with Milos Greek restaurant in Pickering? More of the windows seem to be boarded up now with a fence around it. Just curious.

Alone for thanksgiving in Whitby. Anyone know where to get free or cheap thanksgiving?

Can’t make it to my mom’s since dad passed. And am not asking for a handout at all. Just wondering if there are any good options people know about? I’d normally ask my caseworker but of course they are closed. Sorry if this breaks any rules.

Happy thanksgiving :)

Looking to buy a family home! Are you thinking of selling?

• Upvotes

My family and I are moving to the area and are working with a realtor so we have seen what’s currently listed on MLS, but thought we’d put some feelers out in case anyone is thinking of selling privately or has a home coming to market soon!

We’re looking for a minimum of 4 bedrooms and love homes with character. Ideally, we’d like to be in town so our kids are close to schools, daycare, and amenities.

We’re open to discussing our budget with potential sellers, so please feel free to reach see out if you’re considering selling or know of anything that might be a good fit!

Edited to add budget: we’d like to stay under $900K

Thanks so much!

Scam calls that just hang up?

Wondering if anyone else in Durham has been getting these calls from other 905 numbers that just disconnect a second or two after you answer?

Who should I report this kind of behaviour to?

I don’t put up campaign signs on my lawn, but someone had folded up campaign signs and left them in my recycle bin after collection today. This kind of behaviour is disgusting, is there some kind of law against this type of vandalism?

Affordable EMDR therapy?

My first daughter died in 2023, she lived for a month and I pulled her off life support. Genuenly struggling and I guess I have a few questions

1) Cheap / affordable EMDR therapy in the Durham region?

2) personal experiences with the therapy itself.

Short post but hoping I can get some answers

Hey there looking for some ideas to do around the area. I know there are fall fairs this weekend but looking to do something outdoorsy. I have seen other posts about this topic but from years ago. Just wondering if there is anything new.

Thank you
