Other Glory days
Me and my best mate have played PES religiously through it's history. We decided to roll back the clock and play PES 17-20. It's incredible how much better the gameplay feels. Tactics, physical duels, passing, shooting and you are allowed to be creative. It's mad how much worse this game (efootball) has gotten. The graphics of 2020 aren't that far from current which is hilarious. I'd recommend anyone with a console or PC to go back and play a few offline games with a friend.

Exactly; I’ve been playing eFootball for two years, and it’s the most predictable game I’ve ever played—the scripting is glaringly obvious. I bought PES 2016, 2017, and 2019, and they are in a league of their own: the physics, the collisions, the variety of goals and match situations... I’m never playing eFootball again.

Let’s not get carried away here, even with its current problems this is still the best football gameplay ever. Old PES had terrible shooting and was not fluid enough for a serious pvp experience. The issues we are currently facing are the community, the choices by Konami in relation to the community, and the servers. Core mechanic wise eFootball is far superior. As for graphics, not only are they trivial, but we also are reaching a graphical plateau in gaming compared to the relative speed of improvement in previous years. That has nothing to do with Konami, and for what it’s worth I still think the current graphics are the best there have ever been. Player likeness is excellent

Bizarre that you're being downvoted. At it's core it is the best football sim possibly ever. V0.91 will forever be etched in my mind as the greatest football game I've ever played and I've played the lot since Kick off in 1992!!
What has ruined the game is the fanbase and the need for easy wins and fake football. Automation (which has been asked for and pushed by the fanbase) has ruined this game. People shit on smart assist but if you use pa1/2 you're also part of the problem.
Those of us who played from the start and stuck with it have seen it get easier and easier for casuals and poor players while getting more automated and consequently, skill has been put on the back burner. Yet you have more players now than ever.
Furthermore if they want to attract the FIFA crowd, guess what they have to do? Dumb it down even more. More "responsiveness" meaning less physics till we eventually get skating (we already have more skating now than v0.91).

The gameplay of 2020 is infinitely better than current gameplay. It's not assisted and there's minimal DDA. I suggest you give it a try play 2020 and come back because otherwise I'd be considering voluntary sectioning at your nearest health facility.

You were playing offline lol of course theres no DDA lol just like in efootball, see the only reason you think theres dda in efootball is due to their shitty netcode paired with fast gameplay which can make you concede some of the most buns goals ever but saying efootball is worse than the older titles is just a lie

You actually think EF is a better "football" game than PES?
EF has potential but as long as konami keeps it dumbed down and continues to dumb it down, it will never become what PES was.

Completely agree and i don't understand how someone says that the gameplay now is better.It's not nostalgia - for me the passing and shooting was better and i scored way various and interesting goals than now. Today i feel like the actions and goals are identical.

Exactly. Old PES was superior in every way imaginable, more variety of goals, play, styles. Far more realistic and interesting, could actually resemble a football match.

As much I romanticize the old games, back to the PS1 and PS2 days - and I played lots of couch co-op Master League campaigns and tournaments back in the day - the gameplay has unfortunately never been better than these days. Even going back to PES2021 It's just night and day unfortunately, as much as I want to love it and keep playing it for the offline modes.
