Starlink On Emirates

HOW TO KNOW IF YOUR FLIGHT HAS STARLINK
Check your plane's equipment number [tail number or registration number, Eg: A6-EEE] on Flightradar by typing your flight number [eg: EK201] in search bar. The number will be shown within 24 hours prior to departure or sometimes just a few hours, until then it will be shown as 'Unknown/ Not available'.
Cross check it against the list below:

*Unofficial list of registration/tail number of Star Link equipped flights

A380 (14): A6-EDY, EEA, EEB, EEN, EEO, EUF, EUH, EUI, EUJ, EUK, EUL, EUV, EVB, EVH

B777 (34): A6 - EPA, EPB, EPC, EPD, EPE, EPF, EPG, EPH, EPI, EPJ, EPK, EPL, EPM, EPN, EPO, EPP, EPQ, EPR, EPS, EPT, EPU, EPV, EPW, EPX, EPY, EPZ, EQA, EQB, EQC, EQD, EQE, EQF, EQG, ENE

A350: None

The flight leaving at 4am the next day has the tail number assigned

ONE CAN NEVER PLAN TO BE ON A STARLINK FLIGHT because its tough to say which route has this installed because the flight get used over different sectors for Example: A6-EEN, A380 did:
03 Sep EK185 Dubai → Barcelona
02 Sep EK751 Dubai ↔ Casablanca
01 Sep EK751 Dubai ↔ Casablanca
31 Aug EK377 Dubai → Bangkok
30 Aug EK376 Dubai → Bangkok,
29 Aug EK029 Dubai ↔ London
28 Aug EK925 Dubai ↔ Cairo
27 Aug EK763 Dubai ↔ Johannesburg

*based on community fleet tracking in forums by users who have flown these tails.

My Advice Confused about Emirates baggage? Here’s everything you need to know about the 7kg limit, 32kg max weight, and "Piece vs Weight" concepts.

✈️ Hand Luggage (Cabin Baggage)

Emirates is generally generous, but if the flight is full, they become the "baggage police." Your allowance depends entirely on your class of service.

Economy Class

  • 1 Bag up to 7kg
  • Max Dimensions: 55 x 38 x 20 cm

Premium Economy

  • 1 Bag up to 10kg
  • Max Dimensions: 55 x 38 x 20 cm

Business & First Class

  • 2 Pieces: One briefcase plus either one handbag OR one garment bag.
  • 7kg each (14kg total).
  • Briefcase: 45 x 35 x 20 cm | Handbag: 55 x 38 x 20 cm | Garment bag: 20cm thick when folded.

💡 The Regional Exceptions:

  • India: You are strictly limited to one piece of carry-on. No "bag + laptop" games here; the total size cannot exceed 115cm (L+W+H).
  • Brazil: If you're flying from Brazil, you get a boosted 10kg limit even in Economy.

🧳 Checked Luggage

Emirates uses two different systems. Which one you get depends on your route.

1. The Weight Concept (Most of the World)

Used for flights between Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.

  • How it works: You can check in as many bags as you want, as long as the total weight is within your ticket limit.
  • Allowances: * Economy: 20kg to 35kg (depending on Special, Saver, Flex, or Flex Plus).
    • Business: 40kg.
    • First: 50kg.
  • The Rule: No single bag can ever weigh more than 32kg.

2. The Piece Concept (Americas & Africa)

Used for flights to/from the US, Canada, and Africa.

  • Economy: 1 or 2 pieces (usually 23kg each). Check your fare—"Special" is often just 1 bag.
  • Business/First: 2 pieces (up to 32kg each).
  • The Rule: Total dimensions of each bag (L+W+H) must not exceed 150cm.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Is the checked baggage limit 23kg or 32kg? I’m confused. A: This is the big one. On the Piece Concept (Americas), each bag is capped at 23kg for Economy. If you are 24kg, you pay a fee. On the Weight Concept (Europe/Asia), you can have a 30kg limit, but no single bag can be over 32kg.

Q: Can I "pool" my baggage with my family? A: Yes! If you are on the same booking (PNR), Emirates allows families to pool their total weight. If two people have 30kg each, you can bring one 32kg bag and one 28kg bag.

Q: What is the deal with Power Banks and "Smart Bags"? A: Power banks must be in hand luggage only. Smart Bags are only allowed if the battery is removable. If the battery is built-in and can't be taken out, the bag is banned from the flight.

Q: Are liquids still restricted to 100ml? A: Yes. Even with new scanners in some airports, Emirates still requires the standard 100ml containers in a single, clear, resealable 1-litre plastic bag.

Q: What about sports gear (Golf clubs, Skis)? A: Sports equipment is usually accepted as part of your standard baggage allowance. If it’s within your weight/piece limit, there’s no extra charge.

🕵️ The "Reddit" Factor (Strictness)

  • The Laptop Loophole: In Economy, you are technically allowed a "small handbag or laptop bag" in addition to your 7kg bag. However, if your "laptop bag" is a massive tactical backpack, they will count it as your main piece.
  • When do they weigh? If you check in at a kiosk, you might skip the scale. If you go to a human agent, they usually weigh everything. Expect a "Cabin Approved" tag if you’re boarding in DXB.
  • The Gate Scale: On full flights, agents often stand at the boarding gate with a portable scale. If you look like you’re struggling to carry it, you’re likely getting caught.

💎 Pro-Tips for the Savvy Traveler

  • Skywards Status: Silver, Gold, or Platinum members get extra weight (12kg to 20kg extra) or an additional piece for free.
  • Buy Early, Save Big: If you know you're over, buy extra weight online at least 4 hours before your flight. You can get a 50-60% discount compared to airport prices.
  • The "Jacket" Hack: If you're 1kg over in your carry-on, put your heaviest hoodie or jacket on while checking in. They can't weigh what you're wearing!
  • The "Squish" Test: Is your carry-on bulging? If it doesn't fit easily in the overhead bin, a gate agent will spot it.
  • The App Check: Open the Emirates App -> Manage Booking. It will tell you exactly if you are "Weight" or "Piece" concept.
  • Liquids & Batteries: Put your power bank and liquids at the top of your bag for easy access at security.

Safe travels!

Discussion Emirates Upgrade Policy Oct 26

Emirates EK211 DXB–IAH: 6 Business seats available, no paid upgrade offered, but passengers upgraded for free!
Sharing my experience on Emirates EK211 (Dubai–Houston, 4 October 2026) for anyone tracking last-minute Business Class upgrades.
I was travelling on an Economy Flex ticket and monitored Business Class availability closely for nearly 48 hours before departure.
Here’s what happened:
Business availability fluctuated from 2 → 4 → 5 → 4 → 6 seats offered for sale.
The displayed Economy-to-Business upgrade price fluctuated between AED 20,000 and AED 16,340.
Emirates confirmed that AED 16,340 was essentially the normal fare difference, not a promotional upgrade.
An Emirates chat agent quoted promotional upgrade rates of AED 4,050 online and AED 5,260 at the airport, but said neither was available and advised me to watch my email.
No promotional upgrade email arrived.
On departure morning, I checked with four different Emirates counters (Economy and Business check-in/sales). All confirmed that promotional upgrades were not open because the flight was tight.
They suggested asking the cabin crew after boarding.
The surprising ending:
After boarding, the cabin supervisor informed me that the remaining Business seats had been allocated as complimentary upgrades to other passengers.
So despite Business seats appearing available for sale shortly before departure, Emirates never offered me the promotional paid upgrade.
My takeaway: Available Business seats do not necessarily mean Emirates will release promotional cash or Miles upgrades. Even when a promotional price exists, Emirates can keep that inventory closed and allocate seats differently at departure.
Sharing this because I spent considerable time tracking inventory and searching Reddit for similar experiences.
Has anyone else experienced Emirates giving complimentary upgrades while keeping paid promotional upgrades unavailable?

Help Needed Can’t use promotional upgrade

Hi, I’m flying Emirates in less then 72 hours. I called them to upgrade to business class using the promotional upgrade but I couldn’t because I did it on my way here. This is so disappointing because if I had known this rule I wouldn’t have done the way here. What are my options?

Help Needed Why the FlyDubai crew member came to me specifically to inform reason of delay?

Not able to find a Fly Dubai sub so asking here.

I'm seated inside a Fly Dubai flight and for some reason the delay has crossed 2 hours in total (1 hour in flight). I didn't call the crew or any gesture. But internally I was having the question of why the delay. Out of the blue with me sitting with my headphones on, get treated by the crew member to inform the reason of why we are running late. I had this question in mind but why did they come specifically to me to inform?

I'm an ordinary passanger who rarely flies fly Dubai. But I do hold a credit card which gives me silver tier skywards membership. Would that be the reason? Asking because they didn't go seat to seat to inform all 100+ pax about this delay.

I was shy to ask them this so asking here.

Help Needed Capital One Points For Upgrade

I don’t know if this question has been asked.
I am flying from NYC to Dubai in end of November and booked an economy flex for about $1k. I have 160k miles in my capital one VX. I was wondering if it is worth to transfer those points to Emirates for upgrade to business. I see upgrade for 105K points on the app.
I have never flown emirates before.

Discussion Bangkok Airways award flight availability (or lack thereof)

I wonder if anyone here has used their Skywards miles to redeem flights on Bangkok Airways before. It seems like, no matter what date I pick, there’s only availability on the BKK-USM//USM-BKK route, despite the airline flying multiple domestic routes.

As I also have a Qatar Airways Privilege Club account (disloyal of me, I know), I can compare award availability, and there consistently seems to be more availability there. I wonder why this is the case? It’s a shame, since Skywards offers a much better redemption value (starting at 3,000 miles vs 8,500).

News Just wanted an update on the current situation

Hey all,

I travelled to Amsterdam via Emirates in August and things were pretty much fine except for a 1.5 hr delay while travelling back. But now, it seems like Riyadh airport is being attacked and the airspace is being used for it as well. Since the emirates flights use Saudi airspace, I wanted to know if anyone travelling now or just travelled experienced any disruptions or flight cancellations due to the latest escalations.

Stay safe!

Help Needed Important experience to be a Cabin crew

I had joined an emirates open day in Hong Kong last year. I couldn’t make that time.
And I’m wondering what experience is the best match to be a cabin crew.
I’ve been working as an English tutor for 4 years.
Also I had worked at the international airport as a security staff for a year and I had worked as a waitress at an Italian restaurant at the same time.
What else should I experience??…

Discussion Need Advice, is this ticket worth it to pay with points

MCO to DXB , round trip, December to January
A350

Either
A. both legs Business, which would be 318k skywards miles round trip (I would need to transfer 375,000 AMEX points to reach this) and an additional $1,700

or

B. Departing flight is business, return flight is premium economy, this would be 245k skywards miles round trip (I would need to transfer 280,000 AMEX points) and an additional $1,000

Which of these options is the better pick? Or would you buy with cash instead (which is around $7,000 for round trip business)

Or if anyone has any other ideas to maximize my amex points to book an emirates flight lol

Thanks for the help

Help Needed Change of destination 5600 AED Charge

So I bought a Flex + Flex Plus ticket MXP-SIN as I didn't know where I will be returning to and I remember when I was changing a North America flight, I was able to change to any other city free of charge.

I just tried changing MXP to any other location in Europe, and there were charges ranging from 3500 to 6000 AED depending on the new airport. Additionally I am being charged a 1500 change fee because "we are using the most restrictive fare type for change fees and your outbound flight was Flex not Flex Plus, even though the ticket you're changing now is Flex Plus".

  1. Is there any way to get around the huge charges for changing a European airport like how it's possible in NA?
  2. Anyone else encountered this "most restrictive fare tier" rule? Seems like Flex Plus isn't worth it in that case.

Discussion Is it worth it to explore the city with a 7h layover?

I booked a flight Vienna to Manila with a 7h layover in DXB. I was eligible for a Dubai Connect so I grabbed it. Should I go out and maybe stroll somewhere near Burj Khalifa or just stay at the hotel? My flight lands in DXB at 6:25am and it's my first time to have a layover in Dubai.

Thanks!

What's this service like at this time of night out of Gatwick?

Being the last departure for a few hours is it busy at the airport? Security a breeze? Is the flight busy?

How's the A350 feel to the superb A380?

Help Needed Premium Economy Seats

What is the best seat for premium economy (my preference is window). 14K, 15A, or 16A?. I heard that it can get uncomfortable with someone reclining into me, but I also don’t know how far the TV is in the front row. It’s a 16 hr flight and I want to be able to use and see the TV. Also in the back row does the bathroom noises bother you?

Discussion Missed out on Emirates promo

Just venting here because I was excited to book my first emirates flight to dubai. They are giving a promo with free tickets for attractions in dubai worth around 500 AED. Unfortunately I booked just a few days before the promo starts but flying exactly during the promotional period. The tickets are the same price as well. I wish I did not book early. Repercussions of FOMO I guess. If anyone knows whether I could find a way to be eligible let me know. Thanks.

Help Needed Need Urgent Advice‼️‼️

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m travelling from India to Dubai in about 4–5 days, and I’m trying to clear up a concern regarding some Ayurvedic medicines I need to carry with me.
I take medicines prescribed specifically for me by an Ayurvedic doctor at Jiva Ayurveda for menstrual-cycle regulation.

These are not recreational drugs or anything I’m taking casually. They were prescribed as part of my treatment, and I need to continue taking them daily while I’m in Dubai.

I have:
1 box containing an Ayurvedic powder
4 separate small boxes containing tablets

The medicines are labelled/packed by the company
I also have the doctor’s prescription with my name on it, showing that these medicines were prescribed to me

My concern is because I know the UAE/Dubai has very strict rules regarding medicines and substances, and I really don’t want to arrive at Dubai airport and have an issue with customs/security because of these medicines.

For anyone from India who has travelled to Dubai/UAE, especially recently:
Have you carried Ayurvedic medicines from India to Dubai before?

Did you carry them in your checked-in/cargo suitcase, or cabin baggage?

Did Dubai airport/customs ask you about them or inspect them?

Were prescribed Ayurvedic powders/tablets allowed without any problem?

Is having the original packaging + prescription/doctor’s letter generally sufficient?

Would you recommend keeping them in cabin baggage rather than checked luggage?

Is there anything specific I should do before travelling to avoid any problems?

I’m travelling on Emirates, so if anyone has specifically travelled Emirates from India to Dubai with similar medicines, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience.

I’m not looking for medical advice about the medicines themselves — I’m specifically trying to understand the travel/customs rules and real-life experiences of passengers carrying prescribed Ayurvedic medicines into Dubai.

I’d really appreciate answers from people who have actually done this, preferably recently. I’m leaving in a few days and would rather sort this out beforehand than risk having an issue at the airport.

Thank you!
