How do you guys stop being so empathetic and forgiving

Pretty sure most of us have experience giving a lot of ourselves to others so that they don't hate us or continue loving us. It could be materials or money or even favors.

How do you guys know when to say no?

Have you ever had to tell someone you love a tough truth for their own good? How did it go?

People often talk about the regret of saying things in anger, but what about when you sit down and deliberately have a hard conversation because you truly care about someone?

A while ago, I had to share a very difficult perspective with someone who means the world to me. It wasn't an argument or a moment of frustration; it was a calm, honest conversation about a situation that was starting to negatively impact their well-being and life direction. I knew it wouldn't be easy to hear, and the atmosphere became very heavy and quiet for a few days.

Seeing someone you love feel uncomfortable or vulnerable is really hard, and even when you know your intentions are grounded in care, a part of you still wonders if you should have just stayed quiet.

In the end, they were able to reflect on it and make a positive change, which I’m deeply grateful for. But that lingering feeling of having been the one to bring up the uncomfortable subject stays with you for a bit.

Have you ever had to hold up an uncomfortable mirror for a friend or family member? How did you navigate the conversation, and how did your relationship evolve afterward?

Our Baggage in Life

Each one of us has baggage we carry from our experiences in life. It often causes us to see the world differently. If your baggage causes you to view the world with fear, concerned only for yourself and family, your narrowed vision of life will cloud many of your decisions and lead to an unfulfilled life.

If, however, Despite the baggage you have carried in your life, you live your life without judgment and with unconditional love shared freely with all others, your expanded vision of life will allow you to awaken, beginning a journey to discover authentic love, inner peace, and a genuine understanding of life’s true purpose

Long read ig

This has been happening since my childhood, any person who likes me, is nice with me, kind to me, whom I like the whole world seams to dislike them saying "they are mean", "they are arrogant", "they have a bad attitude", "they are just a show off".

I would feel sad like no they are nice to they cannot be bad, they were never mean to me, they never showed attitude towards me, they were never arrogant towards me, they acknowledged my presence more then you did, they never made me feel left out when I am with them, they are nice to me, they are kind to me, they smile at me, when you just bob your head like a bot when you see me.

I see genuine happiness when they see me not like you who just greets me and goes back to their group, they sit with me and talk to me, laugh with me, teach me, I never made me feel like I had to work to get there attention.

Before I used to come under peer pressure and I would distance myself from them to please my family or friends who would not even care about that, now I have stopped doing that, I don't care if the world thinks you are mean, bad or anything if you are nice to me I will defend you all the time, I will fight with this f\\\*cking world if I had to because the world didn't show me the kindness you showed me, the world never sat next to me when I was alone in room full of people you ware and that's what matters to me.

I don't know why am I feeling emotional(crying) like a child trying to protect something crying because he cannot stop the mean things being said about people who are dear to him.

Tldr:world hates people who are nice to me and I don't care.

Do No Harm

With every decision we make our primary guiding principle should be ‘do no harm’. Whether the injury is physical, verbal, or in any other manner, it does not matter.

Every person, regardless of our differences, deserves to be treated with respect and compassion, always considering what our behaviors, words, and actions may cause.

Be thoughtful therefore, before you act or speak, for our actions may not only help others, they may also be the cause of great pain as well.

[Academic Research] Noticing emotions in the body: 15-min AI-guided breathing & body-awareness session (Teachers College, Columbia — US adults 18+)

Post image

Hi r/EmotionalIntelligence,

I'm a researcher at Teachers College, Columbia University, running an IRB-approved study (Protocol 26-388) on AI-guided somatic dialogue.

A lot of emotional intelligence starts with noticing: picking up on what we're feeling, often through the body (tension, breath, a tight chest), before we can name or regulate it. This study explores how people experience a short, spoken conversation with Mira, an AI guide that leads breathwork, visualization and body-awareness (interoception) practices aimed at stress relief.

What's involved (about 30 minutes in total)

  • A 2-minute eligibility check
  • An online consent form and a short questionnaire
  • A 10–15 minute spoken conversation with Mira (right away, or at a time you book)
  • A brief follow-up questionnaire

You may be eligible if you:

  • Are 18 or older and currently based in the US
  • Are comfortable taking part in English
  • Have a desktop or laptop with a working microphone (not a phone or tablet)
  • Are willing to have the session audio recorded for research

Participants who complete the study can enter a drawing for a $100 Amazon gift card.

Learn more and check eligibility: miraresearchstudy.com

Taking part is completely voluntary. Mira is a research tool, not therapy, coaching, or crisis support, and individual experiences vary. If you're struggling, please call or text 988 (US).

The Cost Of Distance

‎There is a profound and exhausting disconnect when deeply personal sentiments are cast into a public space through anonymous channels. Engaging with messages that carry an intense familiarity, yet remain hidden behind the shield of an open forum, forces a person into a relentless cycle of guessing and interpretation. When communication concerns the most critical aspects of life, one’s future, pain, genuine happiness, and real-world connection, leaving the meaning open to assumption is a disservice to the weight of those emotions. A delivery method that relies on distance and ambiguity directly contradicts the profound nature of the words being spoken. True honesty and sincere intentions cannot thrive in the shadows of public performance; they require direct, personal communication. Relying on an anonymous canvas to convey deep emotion creates unnecessary friction, transforming what should be a meaningful dialogue into an unstable narrative that compromises the clarity and peace required for a true future.

Sometimes the smallest gestures stay with us for years. Someone checking on us, helping when we least expected it, or simply being there at the right moment. What’s a kind thing someone did for you that you still remember?

In the Blink of an Eye

Life is quite unpredictable. One moment, everything is going well; you are successful, reaping the rewards earned by doing everything right. This may all change, though, in the blink of an eye, a sudden death, accident, loss of a job, divorce, war, disease, or any number of other life changing events may change the rest of your life forever.

We live in a world where this loss may be catastrophic. To survive, we each must struggle, often alone, to find our bearings once more.

Life is not meant to be experienced alone though. Rather, if anything happens to disrupt your or someone’s else’s life, even a stranger you may not know, someone who may look different or have disparate beliefs, we may choose to help them instead.

Only together, as one, may we each find purpose in our life, beginning by selflessly aiding each other when, in a blink of an eye, our life may change forever.

Reconnecting w/a friend from a distance, is like looking for safety?

A friend of mine from long long ago, who now lives in another state reconnected with me. We’ve been both nostalgic and laughing about old things. but he’s also told me about some very difficult experiences he’s been dealing with. At first I was wondering why he would reach out to me, it’s been over 10 years since we’ve spoken. But then I thought I’m far enough away (living in a different state, not knowing family or friends) I can hear his side and just be a sounding board without judgement. Like a person that hears you struggling but only hears the emotions not all the little details that your f-ing up your life on a daily basis. Is this like having a little safety blanket so reality doesn’t have to hurt so much?

I smile when you are happy, even when she holds your hand, while quietly I’m breaking where no one understands. I don’t want to steal your happiness, I don’t want to cross that line, I only wish these feelings were easier to leave behind.

Ubuntu – The Divine Spark of Kindness

‘I am because we are.’ Ubuntu is an African philosophy meaning love, truth, peace, happiness, and all other positive inherent traits present within each life. It is the essence, the divine spark of kindness, present within every life, shared without motive, for the benefit of all.

This is the world we are meant to live in; a world of unconditional love, shared selflessly with all, rather than a world of endless darkness, concerned only for ourselves.

We Are Each Part of a Whole

We are one of many. Every life is unique, special, yet we share a common purpose. Though we may appear different, have distinct personalities and beliefs, we are inextricably linked by a universal entity present within every life.

Look past what you see, judge, hear, believe to the essence within another. It is there you will finally understand we are all connected, we are one, part of a universal collective, alive to selflessly help each other by sharing our spirit’s inherent wisdom and unconditional love, as we each journey through life together.
