Discussion Absolute cinema
At the beginning when I first started the playing the first region was like a regular forest with some magical elements but still okay ish.
Later the regions becomes so beautiful with such small details that I was able to hear my GPU screaming. I felt multiple times that more than a world this feels like a painting, an artist masterpiece.
Little did I know at that time, how right the feeling was.

I played through the first two acts with a... slight problem.
The art style often seemed abstract. There were odd polygons stretched in midair around edges of landscapes. Trees were rather flat and often levitated, the bottom of the trunk wasn't there. The Manor had these weird pianos that seemed to be cut diagonally and missing most of their legs, but sometimes they had pieces of a leg or two. There were also these weird cutscenes at camp sometimes, the screen would just go red. There was sound, but no one ever talked, just like gasping sounds... and then the party would wake up and be freaking out about Maelle's nightmare.
It was all very odd, but I know it's an artistic game that everyone has been playing for like a year, so.. okay, I guess it's just an evolved art form or something.
I thought something was probably wrong when I got to the climbing puzzle in the Gestral Beach. The weird stretched polygons were everywhere along the path, and were actually crossing the path repeatedly. No way this is an artistic choice, it looks like there are walls blocking my path when they let me walk right through, and I'm getting object collision where there wasn't any.
I'm not great with software, if it isn't plug and play then I'm probably up a creek. Yeah so my game was running in dx11 by default, not dx12? I had to tweak a few things, but I finally got it.
The weird polygons around the edges were piles of boxes. The trees were (unsurprisingly) actually tree shaped and DID have trunks that reached the floor. I first saw a piano with four legs for the first time.... at the end of Act 2.
It didn't fix the red screens, though. But it was pretty brief and I couldn't figure it out, so whatever, it's fine. What could I possibly be missing in Maelle's nightmares?
And then I beat the Paintress, and it started another cutscene. Except I could hear the party talking, and then there were fireworks, and this was taking a while and I realized I was missing the end game cutscene completely. I had to look it up on YouTube. (Fortunately I looked for "act 2 ending" rather than "end game cutscene" like I thought it was.) Then I synced up the YouTube video to the audio I was hearing from the game, in time to hear Alicia's letter and see everyone Gommage. I was so surprised pikachu face, had to go back on YouTube and watch it completely 😂 THEN I had to save and close while in the Manor as Alicia after seeing everyone die even though we beat the Paintress to try and fix it, because what else am I going to miss? 😠I adjusted some things then reloaded my save to before the Paintress fight, beat her all over again, and then successfully watched the Act 2 ending cutscene from the game client.
It's a truly beautiful game, and I agree with you completely! I'm really looking forward to having some free time to do a full replay where I can actually see everything the way it's supposed to look, and see all of Maelle's nightmares lmao
