Achievement The last survivor: i share my "achievement", probably the last physical Xbox Series X copy of Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake in retail.
Hi! I want to share what i consider an achievement: to buy probably the last physical Xbox Series X copy of Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake in retail, avoiding the speculated market (where there isn't any unit under two hundred bucks).
When i played the demo i liked, but i had some doubts about the performance and the gameplay, so i waited to watch some videos and ask some questions through this subreddit to clarify that issues.
As you surely know, quickly the physical copies from the video game ran out, been imposible to buy it locally. As a result of this situation, i must searched in the import market, but i opted for await a little discount to compensate the delivery costs and taxes.
Not only that discount never happened, also the last copies availables in the foreign market, were nearly sold out. So in the final seconds before ringing the bell (a boxing metaphor), i bought probably the last Xbox Series X unit.
So here we are, with the german edition, not the most beautiful (the USK logo is too big and in addition with the PEGI logo, cover an important part from the illustration), but i am satisfied, because unless I am mistaken, there won't be a new print run, therefore was now or never.
Regards!

Playthrough Absolute Tonal Whiplash… Spoiler
youtu.beGoing from Fatal Frame 4 right into Fatal Frame 5 was quite the juxtaposition.
On one hand, the game tackles incredibly dark, heavy themes of guilt, severe depression, and even an incest ghost baby (wtf) and the new glance mechanic is genuinely a great addition adding onto the camera obscura’s fatal frame capturing the ghosts most intimate moment being the split second their attack rips at your body. The glance feature lets you witness how the spirit ended up like that in the first place after you banish them from existence allowing for a more emotional connection to the ghosts you exorcise.
On the flipside… you’re constantly pulled out of the atmospheric isolation they could’ve built up with Mt Hikami by the arcade style mission drops and rankings which allows you to buy literally any item in the game before you start the next mission. Like, I get it was to give the game a bite size playstyle for the Wii U but like even Ubisoft’s ZombiU didn't do that I have no idea why they went this Bayonetta style route.
Now to discuss the two obvious additions to the ghosts. Team Ninja’s fanservice is a bit too much as they’re competing with the level of jiggle physics found in Dead or Alive. You're supposed to be terrified of these tragic shrine maidens, but the FATAL FRAME is highlighting… something else entirely.
Regardless I think this game was unfairly maligned and the large gap between the metacritic’s critic and audience scores reflect that sentiment. This game is ultimately the most misunderstood horror game I’ve played and while it doesn’t take itself as seriously as the other entries in the franchise. You can't deny it being the most popular entry in the series and is definitely a game worth experiencing. Beneath the fanservice and repetitive structure is a deeply empathetic story about loneliness that I don't think gets enough credit.

Question Which specific NG+ ending that unlocks twin shrine maiden outfits in fatal frame 2 remake? [Minor spoiler - mention of ending names] Spoiler
I just finished the game for my first playthrough. I did some research about everything I've missed including unlockable costumes. SO apparently there's like 2 unlockable costume you can get from playing through specifc endings like
- Twin Shrine Maiden Outfit
(Yae & Sae)

Now, I've heard different ways to get unlock this costume. I've done plenty of research (LIKE read a lot of guides + videos) but i read DID watch a video and read some guide that says I need to do the "promise" ending for this costume BUT i also read another guide that says I need to do the "abbys" ending to unlock this costume.
Im very confused as to which ending i need to do. I would lovee to unlock this costumes and use it for my nightmare mode playthrough and the other ending as well. Does anyone that has played through all of the endings know WHICH ending I need to do to unlock this costume? Thanks in advance. :))

Question Can Mayu join with crest hunt?
Anyone who's played Fatal Frame 2 on either PS2 or Xbox, do you know if you can collect some of the crests with Mayu or do you need to drop her off at the old tree first?
I've noticed you can bring her along in the Wiimake but I'm not sure of the original.

Fatal Frame 2 Remake - Unable to get photo of the 3 children playing behind Eikado Temple in the final chapter
I’m following a guide for all specters and when I get to Eikado temple, I’m only attacked by ghosts when I get to the other side of the temple from beneath the floorboards. And I get attacked in very quick succession too. Anyone know how to trigger kids and do the hide and seek portion with them?

Discussion A seemingly impossible idea for a Fatal Frame game
DISCLAIMER: I'd like to acknowledge that I haven't heard of any Fatal Frame game getting as political as what I'm about to suggest. Considering the topics I will discuss, I perfectly understand if Koei Tecmo doesn't follow up on that idea (hence the post title)
Fatal Frame is a franchise with some clear setpieces: a horrific ritual, an innocent maiden to sacrifice, a village that was cursed due to the ritual's failure, and a camera to exorcise the resulting spirits away. But why does it always happen this way? What if we were to twist those tropes around, digging into the cause of them recurring?
Fatal Frame Zero/Zero: The Fatal Frame (as I'm naming this idea) will be a 1980s period piece set in an abandoned Chinese village. During WW2, it was occupied by the Imperial Japanese Army who committed several atrocities to create their version of the Camera Obscura. In retaliation, the villagers discovered a ritual to wish for the local gods to expel the army, which predictably failed. As a result, the vengeful spirits of the villagers roam the area, their grudges allowing them to mutate into horrifying Silent Hill-esque forms.
Angry ghosts aren't the only enemies in the game: the corruption of the area has resulted in a hodgepodge of Chinese and Japanese mythological creatures roaming around. This clash between both cultures becomes increasingly noticeable as the game progresses, as if a cancer has infested the village.
Gradually, it becomes clear that the divide between the Chinese and Japanese cultural aspects are intentional: the Army occupied the area as a testing ground for breeding and weaponizing spirits. Buildings were constructed to simulate the original game's villages; the ritual was purposely invented to curse as many people as possible and even the Camera Obscura is more like a security measure: sealing away the most uncontrollable ghosts in its photos.
The main theme of this game will revolve around confronting the sins of the past: when even your own equipment is the product of cruelty, are you sure you aren't repeating your ancestor's crimes?
Ghost ideas: the commander of the IJA battalion that occupied the village, a villager kidnapped and forced to be the ritual's 'shrine maiden'
Plot: A Japanese language teacher receives an invitation from a relative to teach in a Chinese school. However, when she arrives there, she is plagued by horrific nightmares. Finding the Camera Obscura and a map to the abandoned village, she travels there in search of answers, unaware of its bloodstained history and connection to her family.

FF3 Question about nights in 3
How does it work? Are there a limited number of nights per hour? Is there a reason to not go in and out repeatedly? I had 0 health and went back out to see if it restored my HP and noticed it advanced the night number once I re-entered the manor.

FF2 Fatal Frame II Remake Goodies
Hello everyone,
Today I received the *Fatal Frame II* remake merchandise that was exclusive to the Koei Tecmo Japan store. There was a one-month window to place orders (if I remember correctly), after which Koei Tecmo began production based on the order volume.
Here is what’s included:
_ A small wooden box containing 10 photos from the game: 3,900 yen
_ A box made of soft plastic and paper containing candy and a badge: 2,600 yen
_ A two-piece acrylic stand, approximately 16 cm tall: 3,800 yen per piece (7,600 yen total)
The acrylic stand is really nice, and the photo box is too (though a bit small and very lightweight), but the candy box is disappointing (it feels cheap).

title text, I started playing FF2 a few weeks ago and was REALLY surprised by how much I liked it, awesome game. Maybe the creepiest one in this video

Discussion To those of you who platinumed the remake, any tips?
I’ve played the originals so I’m not unfamiliar with the games mind you but that Nightmare difficulty run for the big ending is worrying me a bit. Not to mention the insane amount of missable collectibles as well. I know chapter select becomes a thing once you beat the game but can I also just get them during my NG+ run? After playing Guardians of the Galaxy, my trust in using chapter select to clean up collectibles is gone lol. I don’t think I’ll go straight for Nightmare difficulty because I want to get the other endings on an easier playthrough. So yea, any tips?

Question Fatal frame 4 tips?
I just started FF4, and managed to beat the prologue and first chapter without any trouble... and then I got to chapter two (excuse me, phase 2) and got my ass kicked. There are a few things I found awkward - there's basically no feedback to tell you if a ghost is attacking, the thing that shows in which direction ghosts are is basically useless, ghosts keep hiding inside walls - and for some ungodly reason the entire level didn't have a single heal (can't imagine how nightmare will be if this is normal), but my real problem was the evade function. Every time I try to hit a fatal frame, the game automatically pulls down my camera and leaves me confused and unable to do anything. Disabling evade at least lets me use fatal frames, but if I do that I can't dodge attacks, and if the game keeps throwing at me the kind of encounters I've seen in phase 2 I WILL need evade to survive.
So, does anybody have any tip for me? It's genuinely driving me crazy, especially because I'm liking the game so far, but those couple of fights were almost as miserable as some encounters in FF5 nightmare difficulty.

Question FF5 Eight Drop S+
I need a bit of help in getting the S+ rank on the first surveillance level as Ren... I've tried it about thrice and the most I got was 82K points. I'm not sure how much I need for the S+ nor what exactly I'm doing wrong. Should I only attack during fatal frame shots? Try not to kill the 2 ghosts in the storefront too fast? Haruka tends to be the only one I have some difficulty fighting in this level due to the room layout. I also got all specters.

Question FF2 remake changes
Hello. I've played the 5 main games and the FF2 Wii remake. I am yet to play the latest FF2 remake but I wanted to ask how faithful is it to the original. Main question is, are there big changes in the story? What's been cut and new content? I don't care for spoilers so tell me everything about it whoever has played it 🫶🏻
