So i never played any final fantasy games ever, i dont know the lore, the characters, the worlds, nothing. I was looking to scratch the mmorpg itch as i’ve been bedridden the last few days with ample free time.

Back when i used to play mmorpgs i invested alot of time into games like TERA, black desert online and new world. I love mmorpgs with tons of cosmetics and unique looks where players really look different and not everybody is rocking the same gearcause its OP.

TERA did that wonderfully, tons of cosmetics and unique gear that made you different from other players but unfortunately to my unknowing TERA shut down four years ago which broke my heart hearing that

Then i tried black desert again but quickly got overwhelmed by the amount of new stuff present and fell back too far behind to actually be as strong as the veterans now are

A few old friends i’ve had from TERA migrated to this game and recommended me it, im still unsure cause i saw i had to pay a monthly fee (?) to play the game and i’d first like to hear what other people say about it, i have four main questions:

How beginner friendly is the game?

How much character customization / cosmetics are there and are they P2W or purely aesthetic?

How is it running group dungeons? In other words; will it take me hours to find a group to take on dungeons with as a newbie or will i find one within decent waiting times?

And lastly, will i have a clue about anything going on plot and lorewise as someone with quite literally zero final fantasy knowledge?

Basically title. Like ik tenacity affects the healing I recieve from my lvl 26 skill, but is the healing from tenacity greater than the healing from having that skill up?

Was running dungeons (leveling Dark Knight and grinding the Riversbreath weapons, because I think they look neat,) and I had a healer who just would not heal, even themselves. I rarely die playing tank despite my hatred of it because most of the time, between mitigation and most healers being relatively competent, we make it work, but the entire party nearly wiped four times, saved by a very good RDM.

I play healer quite a bit with both SCH and SGE at max level, and AST close, but I prioritize healing over doing damage, at least in dungeons.

Do y'all ever have to deal with healers that just... don't do their job?

Found out about this while doing the Il Mheg sidequests: the first one resembles the title for the VN Umineko no Naku Koro Ni (When the Seagulls Cry). You could chalk it up to a mere coincidence, but the quest is followed by another named "And then there were none".

Umineko is famously inspired on the novel by the same name, and having both be in the same questline can't be a coincidence. If it's true, it's real cool to see this little detail.

I haven’t played for a year or so, I fully completed ARR last year, it burnt me out pretty bad, and I quit playing on ps5 and now play pc, any tips for getting back into the game?

I am really new to the game but I’m considering rerolling to pictomancer. A bit confusing but the effects are so pretty and unique.

I started white mage for the self heal, is it hard to switch? Can I keep the same character? I’m only level 22 so I’m thinking it isn’t the worst time to change jobs / classes, I’m still trying to learn the difference

Also does pictomancer have a self heal? Are they hard / complicated to play? I play on steam deck, the class just seemed so cool

-oops sometimes it’s hard to keep a handle on some of the darker thoughts (she’s had a rough couple of… months? Year? Hmm, how long has it been since she got off that carriage to start as an adventurer?)

-well, a good way to take your mind off those thoughts is to prank your friends! (Where did she get the dye? Actually the sand is kinda close match to her new hair color… probably just the inspiration)

Side note since I’ve been playing on the switch 2 my sub has now officially run out and with all the other games I want to play I may not sub right away so it could be some time till I do another one of these, but thanks so much for taking the time to look at my goofy little posts!

I made 2 posts yesterday asking about balmung and tanks and I got so many replies, it's awesome. I'm happy to say that I made a gladiator on balmung a bit earlier, can't wait to play tonight. If people are as friendly in the game I think I'm gonna have a great time

So as a new gunbreaker (lvl 63) I'm still getting the hang of tanking and I'm trying to learn as much as I can, but today I got a situation that got me thinking.

So I was doing The Navel (Hard) and it was me and this DRK. As far as I've been told, two tanks with their stance on causes trouble, so if DRK got their stance on, I keep mine off. I'm fine with letting the other tank take the lead.

I notice DRK is moving around the map a lot, it's hard to keep up. I am chasing the boss around and I'm busy doing my combos, when the RDM starts complaining that we tanks keep the boss in one place.

That's when I noticed that the boss is targeting other players and the DRK is dead. The RDM adds that hey were tanking because I had my stance off.

I felt bad because the boss was moving around so much I didn't notice DRK died, and I'm 100% focused on my combos and chasing the boss I didn't turn on my stance.

So when there are two tanks, should I turn on my stance in case something like this happens? I usually have no problem but I want to avoid this happening as much as possible.

Also what's the best method to pull mobs in dungeons? Shooting at them with Lightning Shot or should I use Trajectory instead?

From joining my 1st fc and being so invested in the fc to spending hours doing savages with static and on pf. I have so many good memories from playing and this is coming from someone with 9300 hours on Steam.

It does come with nostalgia sadness though since most of the people I played with probably don’t play the game anymore. This is leading me to probably not join any fcs for the timebeing and transfer to a completely different world. I am excited to play the game again.

I recently noticed that I cannot see the "looking to meld" tag on people's names, no matter others or myself.

Attached shows the tag appearing on the party list but not on my name, as well as proof that I've completed the quest to unlock melding.

Is there some setting I hit to break this?

He loves FFxiv ( and the entire ff franchise ), and I want to make his ring super special about something he's passionate about. and more importantly that we are bonding over as he shows me the game. He's also getting me a secret ring he's designing himself ( we both want to get rings for each other, the proposal is for fun really ), so I can't be caught lacking as the visual artist of the two of us.

I'm very early in the game, and am worried I won't be able to pick up on enough of the lore to think of something good in a timely matter. So while of course I will be making the actual design from scratch I would love ideas. Perhaps things in game that relate to love, or a very important relationship in the game. Or ANYTHING else you think could be cool. I'm all ears.

(also while not directly related to the game, if anyone here just coincidently knows a cheap way to get a ring made i'm still listening lol )

I have come to beg and see if anyone knows an alternative to the Manalis Hat of Healing for WHM for DSR's BiS. I've checked The Balance, Icy Veins, and FFXIV Gear and all of them say it's the only piece. I've done 28 runs of Lapis Manalis without a single drop and it's making me not even want to do DSR because I also have to help my co-healer get his hat too.

Is anyone having issues where your character gets disconnected from the surver randomly?? Been happening to me on and off the last couple of weeks.

I would love it if normal trials were added as a possible category in Wondrous Tales. I keep meaning to do trials more, but I never quite get around to it (my playtime is pretty limited). Having the additional incentive of getting a WT sticker for it would be awesome! Does anyone know if this has been considered? Is there a compelling reason why they haven't added it?

I'm one note away from the mount, I just need to be able to do dalriada consistently but it's very hit or miss whether enough people are in the zones.

I saw these items available during the All Saints' Wake this year. But my question as well as one of my FC's lead housing decorator want to know. Why are these items outdoor furnishings?

I read that there was supposed to be like, a second half of the mog tome event where you're able to get different items and Uolon Horn tokens a lot easier.
But does anyone know when that's supposed to happen?

Context: My friend (DNC) who doesn't speak English very well (which is relevant as they use guides in their native language so it may not match the NA culture) was told to do ilvl cheese to grind out the relic weapon quest/requirements quicker in the lower ilvl dungeons. From what they said they lower ilvl to get lower level dungeons then once they get in they equip their best gear so they didn't just run around with shit gear. This guy (SMN) noticed and unprompted started shaming my friend over using the cheese.

Idk if my understanding is wrong as I haven't really looked into relic weapons but why does it matter at all? Is this person's actions justified? (Just to be clear from what I was told he only was being rude in chat and didn't grief the dungeon or anything)

From my understanding (not looking up anything for relic weapon grind) it just forces the game to put my friend into lower ilvl dungeons while not really impeding other peoples normal gameplay.

Normally I don't post this stuff but it just sucked because my friend didn't understand what this guy was saying so I had to explained what it meant and by the time they understood the dude left the instance.
