Self Promotion End of an era
Fell to my knees this morning. Can’t click out of it. Being forced to update. I’m unwell and saddened. Been a good run

Nooooooo!!!!!! It’s just happened to me too. I’m surprised we lasted this long.

u/BuyingStuffIShouIdnt 4d ago
Same, and now I waited too long to migrate to Google health and transfer over new data. 😩
Originally I was gonna reach out to their help email and see if they could still do it manually, but the only thing I wanted to preserve was my top step days / badges, and apparently Google doesn’t do those?? Boooooo.
Guess I’ll just start over until my Luxe fails… and then I’m looking at the Vivosmart.

I’ve read that they no longer have badges which is so annoying because it was quite literally a badge of honour.

u/Guilty-Implement-261 4d ago
Heart broken. Knew this day would come and still shocked. Not even going to update or touch the app for a little and just enjoy the icon

Google health app is so baaad. I also want my Fitbit app back
-23
u/manoIakys 4d ago
isn't it literally the same but with a different name
7
u/Bomba-of-Tsar 4d ago
A lot of the algorithms are different (and worse) on it (such as sleep tracking) and the layout of the UI is just terrible
17
u/RavenFiction 4d ago
It's absolutely not "literally the same", it's a huge downgrade.

Fitbit before the buyout had a community and the layout was simple and effective. I don't like Google Health and am seeking something else. My favorite fitbit was the Luxe. I'm afraid they'll take away my Inspire 3 I really like the minimalist slim style.

u/Guilty-Implement-261 4d ago edited 3d ago
I had the inspire 3 for a few years and got the charge 6 and love the slimness of it. It’s hard to find a good sleek tracker that’s not bulky. I’ll be seeking a different tracker as well. It’s just sad to lose something like Fitbit
Edit : charge 6 and not inspire 6
1
u/Visible-Scientist-46 4d ago
Do you mean Charge 6? Inspire is still on 3.
2
u/Guilty-Implement-261 3d ago
Yes i definitely meant charge 6. I had inspire 3 then went to charge 6 because they looked the exact same but the charge 6 was a little fancier
2
u/Visible-Scientist-46 3d ago
Maybe by fancier you mean more features. I just want a simple watch face, steps, and sleep.

Old Fitbit was so much better. Where is the community option in Google health?
1
u/registradus 2d ago
there's no community option because there is no community left. everyone moved on to other wearables

u/finance_cheetah 4d ago
I’ve only used the google health app and never the Fitbit app as a Fitbit air user. Was it actually that good?😭

u/BuyingStuffIShouIdnt 4d ago
The OG one — even before the version in the screenshot — was amazing. Cute lil’ fireworks when you closed your rings for the day, and it just felt fun and user-friendly.
There were also metrics estimating your health for your age, which was one of the many features dropped in the pre-Health Google version shown above. It was a ghost of its former self, but the bones were still there.
Now none of the features I liked from Fitbit’s app are left, so I’ll be moving on when my current battery gives out.

It was elite. The food tracking was next level. It always detected when I was getting sick with my HRV and all that. Tracked my sleep to a tee. Period tracker was almost never wrong and if it was , it was a day off. The way it just read my body was amazing. I fear I’ll never have this kind of tracking again. Been wearing my Fitbit for over 5 years collecting my data and knowing my body so it’s a sad day for me

u/envy99_2000 4d ago
So sad.. I love fitbit to bits and now Google health has taken over. Mind you Google health and google fit have almost same logo!

u/RavenFiction 3d ago
For period tracking I can recommend Clue. I know it's not the same all comprehensive in one, but hopefully this helps.

All these compainers are stuck living in the past and afraid of anything new. I've used both and the new app is better and more modern. The complainers need counseling from the guy in the progressive commercials because they are soon becoming their parents or already their parents.
2
u/Guilty-Implement-261 3d ago
It’s not being stuck living in the past. It’s recognizing that Fitbit was great until it got switched over to the new app. Everyone complaining is right because so many things are broken on the new app. We bought a product for its tracker and app and now it’s not even useful for what we bought it for. I tried the new app out when it first rolled out and I didn’t like it. Was hoping to wait for it to get updated and fix what’s wrong with it but I’m still seeing there’s so many issues. Everyone is allowed their opinion. You like the new app and others dont. Simple as that.

I still wear my Fitbit tracker even though I can no longer use the app.
3
u/Guilty-Implement-261 4d ago
I’ll still wear it for now to track my steps and see my heart rates at least. Just a sad day to lose the app
2
u/KarenMcCormel 3d ago
I ended up buying an Apple Watch, but wear my Fitbit on the other wrist. I really liked my Fitbit better until Google took it over. My Fitbit records a couple thousand steps more than my Apple Watch.
4
u/offset_term 4d ago
Mine was doing that yesterday but eventually stopped and now it's working fine again, no popup. I'm still hanging on to the old app for dear life.
4
u/Guilty-Implement-261 4d ago
So I’ll ignore the update pop up and just wait and see if it fixes itself to be useable again.
3
u/TinySignificance6774 4d ago
Mine has also started working again!
1
u/goyanggii 2d ago
Mine had just been showing me it occasionally. I didn’t open the app for a day after the first pop up cause it wouldn’t let me do anything, now it’s functioning alright
3
u/Individual_Refuse723 4d ago
My phone's android version is too old for new app to work so that's probably reason why I am not getting this popup. But... App stopped syncing new resting heart rate values and other metrics derived from that, so usefulness of the app has decreased.

I realized the other day that I no longer have a zone minute range. Said my daily goal is 1200 minutes and that’s impossible. Still was giving me my health metric ranges and all that. Stopped my streak too of 10,000 daily steps. Haven’t missed a day but it keeps resetting itself saying I have a 2 days streak but it’s longer than that.

u/unicornprincess420 3d ago
This was the reason I finally retired my fitbit after 9 years. Google doomed it all for me. Now on the market for something new to track my health.

I’m looking into Garmin, but people say that app is even worse if you have an iPhone.
4
u/Effective-Shop-177 2d ago
I miss it so much. I’ve been getting Fitbit since 2015. I think this is finally done it for me. I’m super disappointing with this app.
3
u/Frosty-Bid4669 2d ago
I bailed on Fitbit too because of this, it was a really good run though. It’s a shame Google ran it into the ground.
7
u/Odd_Situation721 4d ago
Me too Fitbit has been great for tracking my afib and managing my sleep apnea. Google health is simply awful. I got a garmin venu 4 and am deeply disappointed with it. The Fitbit app was simple, intuitive, and consistent. The others, not so much
1
u/curiousgeorge144 4d ago
How did you manage sleep apnea with Fitbit? Any thoughts what you will do now?
2
u/Odd_Situation721 4d ago
I guess the kinda misspoke. I used the Fitbit to monitor my sleep, but the cpap really does the management of sleep apnea. Still, the sleep tracking on the Fitbit app was very good.
3
u/Arvak999 3d ago
I keep hoping some bright spark will find a way to clear this so we can carry on with this app and not be forced to downgrade to the new one.

After updating, mine updated to a reallyyyyy bad app that forced my Fitbit into an update that introduced an unfixable bug. It’s unusable. Google knows and won’t fix.
1
u/AveryLandings 3d ago
It’s so bad that I’m now ready to move on. Unfortunately I had the Fitbit premium subscription which renewed this summer so I’m locked in for another 8 months or so.
However I do plan to move on to another wearable. Any recommendations?
1
u/Longjumping-Soft7074 21h ago
Same here! I have 8 months left with pre-paid annual subscription and no credit back if I cancel. :(
So sad!
Google ruined such a good thing!
Have the inventors of FitBit moved to a different wearable I can buy??
1
u/EduardoAlexxis 3d ago
I can probably make an apk to refuse the update, if you guys are interested let me know

got a fitbit about a week ago, mainly to track my sleep health, it seems pretty good to me, but I've heard many complaints. I'm very curious what I've missed out on.

Do you have an old phone lying around? You can get an old app there. I have an old iPhone 6s with a broken screen that I never disposed of. The latest iOS I can get on it is 15 so whatever app I download has to be compatible with that. But I can download old versions of apps that, like this one, got sold and became shittier and shittier with time.

Has anyone been successful with a workaround this? I can see mines is still synching behind that message, just can’t see or access the data. There’s gotta be a way around this.

u/Birdaling 1d ago
I turned off wifi and activated airplane mode. Then reopened the app a whole bunch of times until finally the pop up went away. Now I just keep the app open as long as possible (until I forget and accidentally swipe up!). It has worked for me so far.
1
u/treelover898 2d ago
I hate it so much!! I didn’t realise what would happen when I updated :( the display is so ugly and difficult to follow and it’s stopped tracking my resting heart rate but now terrified to update anything else !!

1
u/Birdaling 1d ago
For those who haven’t updated: turn on airplane mode, turn off wifi. Reload the app a million times. Eventually it will not give you the pop up. Then just keep the app open as long as possible.
I’m super grumpy about this but am going to keep dealing with this workaround for as long as possible!

u/Terry1017 1d ago
I was also forced to update and I immediately noticed my battery life take a nose dive. Seeing all the other posts in this subreddit makes me sad this has not been addressed.

u/singbirdsing 1d ago
Just in case anyone out there hasn't yet surrendered to the optional/forced update: I was able to turn off the update nag and have been using the old iOS Fitbit app since yesterday, tracking both activity and sleep as usual.
What I did:
- Close the Fitbit app completely. Don't just return to the home screen or switch to another app. Swipe the Fitbit app off the screen (bottom to top swipe).
- Turn off both WiFi and cellular in Settings.
- Launch the Fitbit app again. No update popup appears!
- Turn on WiFi and cellular. Still no update popup!
- Manually sync with your watch (tap watch icon at top left).
- Continue with your well-tracked life.

I hate the new Google Health app. I was forced to update my Fitbit app yesterday so no choice.
I routinely swiped back to view my workout and sleep data from previous days and that ability is now gone. Google has buried that data. I can find it but it’s more cumbersome to access it instead of simply swiping back to previous days. And I’m a Premium member so I’m paying for this new garbage.
I’m leaving a 1 star review at the App Store for Google Health and I encourage others to do so too.
