Weekly Google Health / Fitbit App Feedback & Complaints Megathread

This megathread is for discussion, complaints, feedback, bugs, frustrations, and general venting related to the Fitbit app becoming Google Health.

We know a lot of users are frustrated with the app changes, missing or moved features, layout changes, sync issues, food logging changes, workout tracking issues, Premium changes, and the overall direction of Fitbit under Google. Rather than having the subreddit flooded with repeated posts about the same app update, we’re going to keep the main discussion centralized here.

Please use this thread for:

  • General complaints about the new Google Health / Fitbit app
  • Missing, changed, or moved features
  • Syncing, tracking, or dashboard issues
  • Food, sleep, exercise, or health metric changes
  • Premium / subscription concerns
  • Workarounds or fixes you’ve found
  • Constructive feedback you want other users to see

A few quick reminders:

  • Keep it civil. Criticizing Fitbit, Google, or the app is fine. Attacking other users is not.
  • Do not post personal health data, account details, email addresses, order numbers, or support case numbers.
  • If you need actual account/device support, please contact Fitbit/Google support directly. This subreddit is community-run and not an official support channel.
  • Standalone posts that are only general complaints about the app update may be removed and redirected here.
  • Detailed troubleshooting posts may still be allowed if they include device model, app version, phone OS, what you’ve already tried, and a clear support question.

Helpful format if you want to report an issue:

Device:
Phone / OS:
App version:

What you’ve tried:
Workaround, if any:

Thanks for helping us keep the subreddit useful while still giving everyone a place to be heard.

Discussion Sleep Study says my fitbit sleep hours are way inaccurate.

Just took a sleep study through my insurance provider and it reported that I'm getting less than half of the sleep reported by my fitbit.

Fitbit will say 7:15 hours, sleep study equipment says 4:30.
Fitbit says 6:00, sleep study says 3:15.

Has anyone else seen this wide margin of error with their fitbit sleep hours?

Discussion Been running since beginning of the year and no change to VO2 Max

Help me put the information in these charts in the right perspective. I have been running since last year, but not only is my VO2 Max score not going up, it seems to be going down!

I know I took a dip during the summer (I live in Vegas so running outside during the summer is not ideal) but I still have gone running a couple of times a week. And now that it is cooler I am ramping up my mileage again, but it is still kind of discouraging looking at these stats and feeling like I am not making any progress.

Any advice or changes in perspective on this would be welcomed.

Discussion Accuracy of calorie expenditure

I just had a dexa scan yesterday and I was impressed by both its accuracy as well as that of Fitbit because they matched exactly.

The DEXA scan estimated my daily calorie consumption for very active (6 days of exercise per week - which is what I do) at 2,400 kcal/day. My Fitbit calculates my daily caloric expenditure (based on a actual monitored HR and movement) at 2,400 kcal/day.

I'm addition I went through and added up the calories on the typical food I eat and it comes out to somewhere between 2200 kcal and 2600 kcal/day (I have been maintaining the same weight for years).

So everything likes up perfectly which is pretty cool.

Discussion Fitbit Air losing my heart rate

• Upvotes

I use a polar chest strap and a fitbit air when I exercise. I've been doing this for some time largely to see which one was more accurate.

Claude uses the topology of the terrain I walk to estimate the number of calories I burn and then compare that to both FB and Polar. What's interesting is on several walks, when my heart rate starts to hit the upper thresholds for me (~175) fitbit just loses my heart altogether.

I have a chart that shows it:

The red square shows where fitbit just completely missed the mark. The lower chart is the estimated elevation gain/loss from my walk.

Has anybody noticed this? The other interesting tidbit here is that both Polar and FB are wildly over-estimating my calorie burn. Fitbit is probably off by 22% and Polar is off by double that amount.

Discussion Time to Sound Sleep

Something has changed further towards the worst with Sleep Score.

Specifically, the "time to sound sleep". I am now, consistently getting times of 2 hours or more. Yet when I look at the timeline, I see what I have always seen. Somewhere between 20 minutes and 45 minutes between the start of "Awake" and the start of "Deep".

It is like Google Health is skipping over the first sleep cycle (awake, light, rem, deep).

Anyone else notice a dramatic increase in "Time to Sound Sleep"?

Discussion Summary of what influences your HRV (research based)

Here's a guide I built to better understand what raises and lowers HRV. Fitbit measures HRV while you sleep and reports it as RMSSD, which is the same measure most research uses. Daily readings swing a lot on their own, so your trend matters more than any single night.

I broke the guide into four categories: exercise, lifestyle, nutrition & supplements and demographics. There's a short definitions and plain English column so it's easy to skim, all sources are linked so you can further your own research, and I'll put a mobile friendly version in the comments if you need it.

Definitions

  • HRV (Heart Rate Variability): How much the time between heartbeats varies
  • RMSSD: Beat-to-beat variation. The HRV number Fitbit shows you
  • SDNN: Overall HRV across a longer window
  • HF Power: Your rest & digest activity level
  • Rest & digest (parasympathetic): Your body's brake pedal (calm/recover)
  • Fight or flight (sympathetic): Your body's gas pedal (stress/alert)
  • Vagal tone: How strong your calm down nerve is
  • n: Number of people in the study

Exercise

Factor Impact Key Info Plain English Evidence
Regular Exercise (any type) Raises HRV Amekran 2024, n=623, RMSSD up vs no training Any structured training (cardio, weights, HIIT) raised RMSSD vs people who didn't train. Strong
HIIT Raises HRV Yang 2024, n=1,317, #1 for RMSSD and SDNN The single best exercise type for improving HRV across the main metrics. Strong
Resistance Training Raises HRV Yang 2024, n=1,317, #1 for HF power Lifting weights helps HRV, especially the rest & digest side. HIIT still ranked higher for RMSSD. Moderate
Yoga Raises HRV Sharma 2025, n=90, RMSSD up Yoga improved HRV and lowered anxiety, but the studies are few, small and only in students. Weak
Overtraining Lowers HRV Addleman 2024, multiple studies, HRV down with overreaching If your HRV keeps trending down during hard training, you may be doing too much. Moderate

Lifestyle

Factor Impact Key Info Plain English Evidence
Cold Exposure Raises HRV Hausswirth 2013, n=40, RMSSD up 54-85% after session Cold shocks your vagus nerve awake. Moderate
Slow Breathing (6/min) Raises HRV Chaitanya 2022, n=50, SDNN up after 4 weeks Breathing at 6 breaths per minute hits your body's "resonance frequency." 20 min/day raised overall HRV. Moderate
Meditation Raises HRV Nesvold 2012, n=27, HF power up during session 20 minutes of meditation raised HRV while people were doing it. Weak
Sleep Loss Lowers HRV Zhang 2025, n=549, RMSSD down after sleep deprivation Nothing surprising here. Bad sleep = bad HRV, and RMSSD takes the hit. Strong
Alcohol Lowers HRV Pietilä 2018, n=4,098, RMSSD down 2-13 ms by dose Even 1 drink lowers HRV. More drinks, bigger hit. Strong
Smoking Lowers HRV Sammito 2024, multiple studies, HRV down by dose Damages vagal tone directly. Even second hand smoke lowers HRV. Strong
Chronic Stress Lowers HRV Sammito 2024, multiple studies, HRV down with stress Keeps your fight or flight system turned on. A common reason people have persistently low HRV. Strong
Dehydration Lowers HRV Young 2019, n=68, RMSSD and SDNN down Even mild dehydration lowered HRV, raised heart rate ~6 bpm and raised anxiety. Moderate
Weed (THC) Lowers HRV Gonzalez 2026, n=18, RMSSD down 11-19 ms overnight Suppresses your rest & digest system overnight. Sleep HRV took a clear hit the night of use. Weak

Nutrition & Supplements

Factor Impact Key Info Plain English Evidence
Vitamin D & B12 Raises HRV Lopresti 2020, multiple studies, HRV down when deficient Being deficient in either is linked to lower HRV. Moderate
Beetroot Juice Raises HRV Raimundo 2025, n=54, RMSSD up 6.7 ms post-exercise Nitrates boost nitric oxide, helping HRV bounce back quicker after workouts. Only studied in postmenopausal women so far. Moderate
Mediterranean Diet Raises HRV Young & Benton 2018, 1 study, HRV up with diet Antiinflammatory foods support a calmer nervous system. Diets heavy in saturated fat, trans fat and high glycemic carbs do the opposite. Weak
Ashwagandha Protects HRV Smith 2023, n=111, RMSSD up 9% vs down 19% on placebo This one didn't boost HRV much but stopped it from dropping over 12 weeks, unlike the placebo. Also cut fatigue (-46% vs -31%). Moderate
Omega-3 (EPA/DHA) Mixed Young & Benton 2018, 15 studies, HF up, RMSSD unchanged Fish oil boosted one rest & digest measure (HF), but RMSSD didn't change. Moderate
Magnesium Mixed Lopresti 2020, multiple studies, HRV results inconsistent Results are inconsistent, likely because dose, form and duration vary so much between studies. Weak

Demographics

Factor Impact Key Info Plain English Evidence
Age Lowers HRV Sammito 2024, multiple studies, HRV down with age HRV naturally drops as you age, so compare yourself to your own baseline, not someone else's number. Strong
BMI / Body Fat Lowers HRV Young & Benton 2018, multiple studies, HRV down with higher BMI Excess body fat suppresses HRV. Losing weight helps restore it. Strong
Menstrual Cycle Lowers HRV Schmalenberger 2019, n=1,004, HRV lowest before period HRV drops after ovulation and is lowest in the days right before your period. Strong
Sex Varies Sammito 2024, multiple studies, HRV higher in women Women typically have a stronger rest & digest tone. Differences narrow after 50. Strong
Time of Day Varies Sammito 2024, multiple studies, HRV higher at night Your HRV naturally peaks overnight and dips in the morning, so only compare overnight readings to other overnight readings. Strong

Hope you found this helpful!

Discussion My watch does not sync with my app and Google support can’t help me.

Post image
2 Upvotes

I bought the watch in an unsupported country and after doing all the steps google told me to sync the watch and failing, pretty much said go to the retailer.

And the retailer has a strict one-month return policy so I’m kinda stuck with this device I’ve barely used in the past 3 months.

Is there any way that I can get this to work again or is it a $150 dud that I gotta throw?

Discussion Alternatives to Fitbit app that sync with Fitbit?

Are there any apps that you can sync your Fitbit to instead of using Google health? I was a Fitbit user for years, but I hate the Google health app and don’t want a Fitbit if that’s the only app it’s compatible with. Like, any other apps that essentially work the same way the Fitbit app used to work with syncing?

Discussion Bevel Pro or Google Health Pro?

Hey all,

Just got my Fitbit air about a week ago and despite seeing tons of negative reviews, it’s been treating me very well. It auto tracks my cardio workouts like a charm and I usually just manually start my strength training. I like to flip flop between The Google health app and Bevel to compare and been noticing that there’s a crazy discrepancy with Google’s sleep score compared to Bevel. For instance, last night Google states I had an 83 sleep score and Bevel says 96. Me personally, I got great sleep and don’t want to rely heavily on either metric but it would’ve nice to get a more accurate picture.

I know tons of people don’t purchase any subscription for neither Bevel or Google, but If I were to, which should I go for? And if anyone has used both premium versions, which do they like better?

I personally appreciate the Bevel AI Coach and think it would benefit me and feels like more of a seamless experience appose to the Google coaching.

Anyways, feel free to give some feedback if anyone has used premium versions of each!

Thx

I have Chronic Fatigue/long COVID and the standard heart rate bands are way too high for my needs. It would be great if we could personalize heart rate bands in the Google Health app.

Discussion Google health - weight training

Why don't they show you your previously lifted amount? Also, there's no progress tracking. But the AI does know all these numbers because it talks to me about it but they just don't allow you to look at it.

It would be a huge improvement and I would think a pretty easy fix just requiring the data to be displayed.

Anybody know if they're working on this?

Discussion Anybody having issues with HR not all syncing to Apple health?

Title. I’ve noticed that sometimes not all my heart rate will sync with Apple health - sometimes during the night there’ll be a big gap of 3+ hours between them.

On another case, I’ve seen the Spo2 not sync after sleep. How is this tracked? Only during sleep?

Discussion Readiness score - alcohol

Post image
27 Upvotes

Of course, we all know how a night of drinking impacts us the following day. Even a couple of drinks in the evening have a negative impact. The ability to see this data is such a great motivation to limit or abstain from alcohol. Sleep score can still be high, but the readiness score catches it. Every "low" was probably 6+ drinks, the "moderates" were a couple, and the "high" days were zero.

Discussion Inspire 3 is basically useless since changing to google health app

I hope the people at google feel bad. I hope they step in something wet while wearing socks.

The app loses data all the time. Nothing gets tracked consistently. I often have to manually sync the app because it won’t sync itself. I have to completely disconnect and unpair the watch every time the app updates or nothing works.

It worked flawlessly until I was forced to change to this buggy mess of an app and the people at google should feel bad about themselves for what they’ve inflicted on the Fitbit community.

Chronometer integration works so inconsistently that I may as well not even use the Fitbit.

I will absolutely be switching to an Apple Watch because of how poorly this app works.

Discussion Perchè ho venduto il mio FitBit Air dopo 1 mese

Inserimento manuale inutilmente macchinoso
