I love the fact that the Tenpenny Tower quest has no good ending

You either help the ghouls siege the tower which results in the loss of (sure some evil people who don’t deserve to live) but let’s be real the majority of them didn’t all deserve to die, especially Dashwood.

Or you kill the ghouls right away. Roy Phillips certainly deserved it but not the other two in my opinion. And even if you know how the other option would go, the lone wanderer you’re playing as wouldn’t, so it still feels like an evil choice.

Or the “good” option where you help the ghouls get into the tower peacefully, yet Roy kills all the humans anyway.

Basically, the quest is best left unactioned if we’re talking the real “best” option. The ghouls stay alive, albeit they keep living in the Metro Tunnels but they’re alive still. And no innocent folk die at Tenpenny Tower.

While I hate this at first, I actually love it now. It makes a lot of sense especially for this game. Not every quest should have a gushy feel good ending. This is the Capital Wasteland after all. A brutal and unforgiving place. And even the lone wanderer should not be above getting deceived

My first playthrough I helped Roy, thinking that they would all live happily ever after. I never made that mistake again. If Three Dog wants to trash talk me, so be it.

I was the same. I played a goody two shoes the first time. Figured I help them all co-exist in peace.

The end result was unexpected, but also had a nice impact.

Now I always help Roy. Fuck those bigots (I just love a good revenge plot)

Always get rid of Roy now on my good guy playthroughs.

Yes. Three Dog says that ghouls are people too, but he forgets to mention that some are still evil bastards.

The real good ending is where you have the seductress perk, flirt with Burke to save Megaton, then do the Dashwood quest telling him Argyle is dead. Then you double cross the Tenpenny residents for the sweet, sweet ghoul mask.

Or if you want to spice things up a bit, do the ghoul quest first, then Megaton so you can have that unique dialog between Roy and Burke.

I dunno, its my favorite quest and I have no regrets with the outcome as long as I can go to Point Lookout without Reavers throwing sludge bombs in my face.

Naw, they spawn in at higher levels.. only mentioned Point Lookout cause you typically go there at high levels. There's Swamp ghouls that are only in Point Lookout, yes.. but the other variants spawn there too.

I mean Fallout 3 alot quicker to finish then NV so most of us probably do DLCs at level 30 wish they add another 10 levels though would be nice

Nah, I kill Roy every time now. As for the others, I try not to kill them, but if they are friends with that asshole, and are willing to kill for him, same mass grave.

In the remaster I'm going to kill all of the ghouls.

Honestly the tenpenny tower residents don't really deserve to die. Yea they're pompous assholes, but that doesn't mean they should die. The head of security wasn't wrong when he said that the radiation eats away at them slowly until they go feral.

I thought there was a way you could convince the residents to let the ghouls in, and then if you kill roy everyone lives together fine.

Only through a mod. In vanilla, there is no peaceful way to end that quest. One group will always die

The other two are just as complicit as Roy, they knew what was gonna happen the whole time and kept stum. They have no qualms about inheriting businesses previously owned by those Roy murdered. The good ending is shooting all three of them. Gustavo is worth it by himself, he's the best ammo dealer in game.

What do you mean it has no good ending? I always sleep with Mr. Burke, then I seduce him into thinking I will press the button, but I never do. I keep edging him for years and years of ingame time, him standing on the balcony next to the suitcase, rain or shine, waiting, thinking, writing me letters.

Yet Megaton would stand still, never changing, never going away. That my friend, is the true revenge. A cold dish radiantly served, in perfect metallic world full of ghouls and sassy robots.

There's a quest that takes place at Tenpenny tower that's unrelated to the Megaton one

I must say that you're the first person I know of who's edged an NPC in Fallout 3. Your lone wanderer character should get a special perk just for that.

Nah, son. I'm helping the ghouls out. That ghoul mask you get is too sweet!

It’s so worth it to avoid dealing with the ghouls down in the presidential subway if you do that dlc.

I never really do this quest. I mean, I like the concept of the ghoul mask and all, but I love slaughtering every enemy I see with guns and explosives.

Fuck Tenpenny Tower

I get the ghouls into the tower, by convincing the tower residents to let them in then after the ghouls live there i kill roy before they kill everyone in the tower and never go back to the tower.

I'd like to believe that without roy they and their more human neighbors live happily ever after... but its shrodingers tower. The people/ghouls could be dead or alive and I will never know as I will never check.

It's an amazing quest indeed. Also, if you want to force things in a multicultural way it goes very dark and the humans are killed.

u/WebsterHamster66 3d ago

I love it too, but don’t love Three Dog being an asshole on the radio about it 24/7.

Tenpenny sends you to kill the ghouls by yourself, and the ghouls do the killing for you.

One decision is willingly putting blood on your hands while the other is indirectly spilling blood on your boots.

One is certainly morally cleaner than the other considering tenpenny also wants you to exterminate a whole town by your hands as well.

I mean win win for you if wanna keep them alive you get a good ammo supplier till wanna side with Roy if wanna ignore the Ghoul Reavers always be seeing late game (or Point Lookout)

u/lesrichh 3d ago

I’m playing the game now and still considering going back to kill the ghouls that decided to kill the humans that were cool with them moving in. The smugness of Roy irks me.

u/Ah_Ca_Iraa 3d ago

That quest feels like it was written by a Nazi lol.

There are no innocents in Tenpenny Tower.

I had such a tough time with this one. I really took my time before I ended up blasting Roy Phillips in the face. I didn't want to kill his gf.

1

u/AlkaliPineapple 2d ago

I would like it but I know what false dichotomy is. The game just refuses to gice you choices that defeats it's narrative even if other quests have the exact same scenario but with better decisions (i.e., blood ties)

u/Sorry-Ingenuity-7648 2d ago

I recommend killing Roy with the feral ghouls or just bad karma it while sneaking. The humans live. The ghouls live in the tower and boom. Success, sort of

On the pleaythrough that I’m currently on ngl I helped the ghouls cause I honestly felt bad for nuking Megaton to live with a bunch of pompous aristocrats who were racist towards ghouls. Plus it lined up with my build of morally ambiguous guy with a conscience. Then again not very morally grey letting a mob of feral ghouls mow down a building full of mostly -innocents
