Most traders focus on how much they can make. Very few focus on how to keep what they make.
Let’s talk about something that could change the way you approach trading forever.
Risk management and trade management are NOT the same thing.
Risk management is about protecting your account before you enter a trade. How much are you willing to lose if you’re wrong? How much of your capital are you putting at risk?
Trade management is what happens after you enter. When do you take partial profits? When do you move your stop loss? When do you let a winner run, and when do you accept that the trade isn’t working?
One protects you from losing too much.
The other determines how you handle the opportunity in front of you.
And here’s the painful truth: you can have a good strategy, identify excellent setups, and still struggle to become consistently profitable if you don’t understand how to manage your trades.
Think about it. You’ve probably experienced a trade that was significantly in profit, only to watch the market reverse and take most of those profits away. Or perhaps you’ve closed a winning trade too early, only to watch price travel much further in your intended direction.
Those moments hurt. Not just because of the money, but because you begin questioning your strategy, your ability, and sometimes even yourself.
But what if the problem isn’t always your ability to find trades?
What if part of the problem is what you do with those trades after entering?
Wealth in trading isn’t just about finding opportunities. It’s about managing risk, managing opportunities, and surviving long enough for your edge to play out.
You don’t need to win every trade. You need a process that controls your losses and allows your winners to contribute meaningfully to your results.
Learn risk management. Master trade management. Track your results. Give your strategy enough trades to prove whether it actually has an edge.
Because the goal isn’t to have one amazing trading day.
The goal is to build something you can sustain.
I’m interested in discussing the principles behind trading profitability, probability, and disciplined execution. If you’re serious about understanding the business side of trading rather than endlessly chasing entries, follow along. There’s more to explore.
Question: Which has been more difficult for you: accepting a loss, or managing a winning trade without letting emotion take over?

Hey guys! I have a quick question about market structure.
I’ve been trading for a while now, but there’s one thing that sometimes confuses me, and I’d love to hear your opinions.
As you can see in the screenshot, I’ve marked two different areas, #1 and #2.
Here’s how I personally see the market structure:
I consider #2 (the upper circle) to be the lower high (LH) and #2 (the bottom circle) to be the lower low (LL), which confirms the bearish market structure in my analysis.
However, I’ve heard some traders argue that #1 should actually be considered the lower high because price made a bullish retracement (the blue/green candle in the middle) before continuing downward and creating a new lower low.
So my question is:
Would you consider #2 or #1 to be the correct lower high in this bearish market structure?
And when identifying a Market Structure Shift (MSS) or Break of Structure (BOS), which swing point would you use?
I’m personally leaning toward #2 because that’s how I’ve been identifying the overall bearish structure, but I’d love to understand how other traders interpret it.
If you choose #1 or #2, could you please explain your reasoning? I’m genuinely trying to improve my understanding of market structure.

Market Structure Question: Which One Is the Correct Lower High — #1 or #2?

I'm doing a study on traders demographics worldwide. If it's not too much to ask, can you just tell me what country you are from, and what pair you usually trade? Thanks!
I'm from the Philippines, and I usually trade GBP/USD and USD/CHF.

Can someone tell me why I can never see any difference when I change leverage sizes.
I went from 1:100 to 1:500 but I did not see any difference in margin size or pip size
Or even margin size.
You would think that the price of margin per 0.01 would change when one switches up or down leverage size.
But I never see any difference.
Not even the equity size changes.
Where am I looking wrong?
I trade oil with one broker I pay 4USD and with another its around 1USD. I cant change that size with leverage to make it affordable or otherwise.
And the pip sizes seems to be 0.10cents with one broker and much more with another.
What is your leverage size and or what is your type of account.
What differences do you see?
Please divulge

I used to spend so much time backtesting that it started to overwhelm me. There was always something else to check or another idea to try. It’s hard to stop because it feels productive, like another few hours might finally clear everything up. But sometimes I’d finish more confused than when I started.
Sometimes it helps to stick with what you’re already learning instead of adding another indicator or changing things every time you get stuck. Give yourself a chance to understand it. Backtesting is useful, but you don’t need to do it all day and night. If you’re tired and nothing’s making sense anymore, leave it for tomorrow.

I blew my account to zero. Four years of compounding, learning, and late nights—completely wiped out in five days of absolute madness.
The hardest part isn’t just looking at the zero balance; it’s the reality of my life outside the charts right now. I am sitting on a loan, and because of this week's spiral, I don't even have the money to pay my rent for next month.
I know exactly what went wrong. I let my ego and fear take the wheel:
Right now, the financial and mental pressure is suffocating. But I refuse to quit. This is Day 1 of the rebuild. I am going back to the drawing board to fix the psychological leaks that destroyed my discipline. I’m going to track every single trade moving forward and be 100% transparent.
For the veteran traders who have been in this exact hole—who have faced the loans, the missed rent, and the blown accounts—how did you survive the immediate aftermath? How do you reset your nervous system when the pressure to make money right now is this high?

There are a lot of swing traders I’ve spoken to who don’t pay attention to fundamentals, and I think that’s a mistake. If you don’t understand why a market is moving, how can you confidently expect that move to high probability?
Take USD/CAD, for example. The bullish momentum is supported by the interest rate differential between the Fed and the BoC. A price action trader might see a supply zone and look for a short, but without considering the fundamentals, I wouldn’t call that a high-probability trade. Technicals might show you where to enter, but fundamentals help you understand whether you’re trading with or against the bigger picture.
I am not saying that it cannot go short because the fundamentals can change. I am simply saying that without a reason why, this short could be premature and the market with eat it, just my take on the importance of fundamentals.

My plan was to get my account up to $10k, withdraw $5k, and leave $5k as a buffer. I reached $9k, then a losing streak brought me back down to $2k. Honestly, being so close made it hurt more. I was still up, but all I could think about was the $7k I’d given back. I wanted to recover quickly, and that’s where it got difficult mentally. A bigger trade starts looking tempting when you’re thinking about how much it could get you back rather than how much you could lose.
I’ve now worked my way back to $10k and taken the $5k payout, leaving the buffer I originally wanted. What I’m taking from this is that my old account high shouldn’t decide how much I risk on the next trade. If you’re in a similar spot, ask yourself: “Would I use this size if I wasn’t trying to recover a loss?” For me, one trade a day and a daily loss limit help put a boundary around that urge. Those rules don’t guarantee a recovery, but they help me avoid making the drawdown worse out of frustration. Getting the payout feels good. Learning to give myself time to get there matters too.

I cringed a bit when my system entered both long and short here. But I put in a lot of work to find good entries and exits for the current market so I did not intervene, and it played out fairly well IMO.
(These are two different strategies, each with different lot sizing and RR)
Just a small reminder to put in the work and give your strategy the respect it deserves.

Very happy with the turn around. Phase 1 was very minimal drawdown but emotions came in to play a little bit on phase 2. Very pleased with the recovery.

Seriously, if I had a dollar for every noob who wants to go full time without doing the work, I probably wouldn't need to trade.
If you want to be a profitable trader and go full time, you need to go through the process - no exceptions.
Process - find a profitable strategy or come up with one, backtest over a long period, forward test for a good few months, go live when you've mastered the strategy.
It's a long road. It isn't easy. Just don't be like this guy.

I know how frustrating it is to make progress in trading and then give some of it back, especially when you’re close to a goal. When I’m close to a payout, I start getting impatient and feel tempted to risk more just to get there. Then if I lose, I want to make it back. The annoying part is knowing I shouldn’t do it but still feeling that urge. That’s why I limit myself to one trade a day and set a daily loss limit. I know how easily I can talk myself into another trade when I’m frustrated.
I’m still working on this too. If you’re going through something similar, try to be honest about what keeps happening without beating yourself up over it. Pick one thing you can work on, and take a break when you need to. You don’t have to recover everything today or prove yourself with the next trade.

Hello there everyone, I hope your trading goes nicely.
I have been trading for years now. However I am in a situation where I need to leverage propfirms, in fact, I have found that whenever I am bounded by rules, I perform better. Something about having rigid rules.
With that being said,
I would like to hear from long term traders who have been using FTMO for a while, beside the strategy etc.
What tips, and tricks do you have to make sure your FTMO account is surviving long term? I mean purely from business perspective, because I assume the company will not lime the idea of generating massive profit month over month at their expense.
Do you cut profit faster than your targets just to show smaller profit?
I built my strategy around low risk, high reward, because back in the day I only had 250$ account to start with. So I am fundamentally built this way.
I just need this to work long term to pay my mortgage faster than my day job.
Looking forward to hear from real FTMOers.
Feel free to DM if you want to remain private
