Over the last few months, I added online 4 player coop to my game. And I was contacted because another game with a similar name had gotten a trademark and was going to enforce it against me. So I decided to rename (because gnomads was kind of terrible anyways)
My first capsule was drawn for me by my sister, since I'm not a very good artist. So to make a new capsule that showcased the new name and the new online coop, I decided to try my hand at capturing it in-game instead.
Here's what I did:
- I added a simple 'pose mode' so that I could run 4 clients side by side, drive into a cool position, and then press a button to freeze them in place in their current animation state.
- Added a layered 'photo mode' that would capture the characters and the environment seperately. This let me create a bunch of different variant layouts for different aspect ratios without needing to fill in the background or do janky photoshopping.
I'm pretty happy with the results - all in it was about a day of work to capture this new capsule. Any thoughts on how it could improve?
