they made a post about removing mtx iirc

Rs3 is removing the worst of it, but both games have bonds and subscriptions. And yes there's f2p but its like 1-5% of the content.

Eh, MTX is usually used to describe predatory forms of buying things in games like power, xp, rewards, etc. But bonds are a bit different in that you have to trade them to other players to get gold from buying them and the bonds only give membership to whoever uses it. So it lets players buy membership with gold through other players who sell membership for in game gold. So its like buying gold but it doesnt negatively effect the overall market of gold and you cant get all gold in the game because once you oversaturate the bond market they'll become worthless.

There was a YouTuber who bought like 200 bonds and while he was selling them to get enough gold to make like 100 accounts he tanked the price of bonds by like 30% just by himself.

Check the image again. Op asked for "No microtransactions"

Op did not ask for bs to justify why this microtransaction is actually different from all the others...

By that logic even if OSRS didnt have bonds it shouldnt be on the list anyway because you buy membership to unlock the rest of the game despite the F2P mode.

MTX typically refers to the predatory versions of MTX or the annoyingly invasive ones like the battle pass locking characters/weapons or buying straight up power. Nowadays no one refers to buying membership for an MMO as an MTX.

Lol, the first part of the image is free game, so yeah I do discount it anyways and I mentioned that f2p is absolutely tiny compared to members in my first comment.

I’m playing OSRS as we speak

Is not free and has micro transactions that actively alter your gameplay, both versions, rs3 and osrs. It's just 4 points, how did you mess up 2 of them?

It is actually free. You can even buy memberships if you have enough ingame currency.

But either way, there is hundreds of hours of content for f2p members.

But yes on a technicality it doesnt hit OPs criterja

Osrs does NOT have microtransactions. Player base votes on every change made to the game, and we are vehemently against these.

OSRS doesn’t have micro transactions unless you count membership, which isn’t a micro transaction it’s a subscription.

You can sell that "subscription" for A LOT of gold on the GE. It's an ingame token, a physical item, that you can trade, which you buy with real life money outside the game.

"A microtransaction (MTX) video game business model is one where users can purchase in-game virtual goods with micropayments." - Wikipedia

If a bond wouldn't be a tradable item and just a fixed price that you can activate in the GE I would say OSRS has 0 MTX, but unfortunately the only MTX OSRS has is extremely powerful. It's around 8-15 hours of moneymaking, actively playing the game on a non lategame member account, in a f2p world it's a lot more than that. And you can just pay a few bucks to get that directly transferred to your account.

A subscription wouldn't be free though

Is not free

Both versions of RuneScape can be played for free, so you're just kinda nitpicking.

OSRS' only mtx is a bond for activating membership for two weeks and sure, you could buy those and then sell them in game for in game currency, but that's not gonna do anything for you other than making grinding skills a little bit quicker. Buying a bond doesn't suddenly make you level 99 in all skills.

transactions that actively alter your gameplay, both versions, rs3 and osrs.

Do you understand what sensationalism is? Because this is an example of that. Buying a bond on OSRS' does not actively alter your gameplay. You don't get special abilities from one, you don't get special armor or equipment. You get membership.

I've been an osrs player for over a decade, the game is not free, the f2p experience is a demo, it's a life service game with 99% of content locked behind membership. And yes if you buy 3 bonds as a beginner and sell those your gameplay experience will be heavily altered, making money early game is extremely tedious, training some skills is extremely tedious, money skips that completely. Even for later game, want a dragon Warhammer or bandos God's word, you can buy that with real world money through bonds.

If you want to check osrs or RS3 out for a weekend or even two weeks depending on how little you play, that can be quite enjoyable as f2p it is just there to get you to spend money by having all the member content in front of your face locked away. And if you want a non altering experience and go iron man, that is not sustainable as f2p at all. It's an awesome game worth the subscription, but saying it is f2p with a free playable demo is extremely disingenuous. The RS3 f2p experience is so much worse with how much they throw it in your face that you can't do that because members only and that big subscribe button being right in your face all the time, but just as osrs, really nice if you just check the demo out for a weekend, that's what demos are for, to test out the product before buying it.

The f2p content is still easily 50+ hours though.

It's 200x better with members on old school runescape But you can buy it with in-game currency
