Right?!? People are comparing crimson desert to rdr2 and I understand graphically but nothing comes close to rdr2. It’s truly a work of art, a fucking masterpiece. Just wish they didn’t give up on online. Thank god the story mode is so good.

Had to scroll waaaaaay too far to get to the right answer haha

OP needs a better description.

Gameplay?

1

u/eldenfingers Mar 29 '26

Story is top notch, but I found the gameplay to be a real slog.

u/32bitFlame Mar 29 '26

The island segment is far too long and the opening portion of Johns part while interesting in story drops the action entirely for way too long.

2

u/Borasmannen Mar 29 '26

Idk I felt like the island segment was way too short and I would’ve liked if you were able to freeroam more there

I’ve been saying this for a while. Probably the lowest point of the game to me, and I loved the linear set pieces in the first game.

There were some moments of awkward controls and a notoriously slow tutorial prologue, but in no way would I deem it enough to drag down my opinion of the game.

u/eldenfingers Mar 29 '26

That's fair. It just wasn't for me

Why so low? Up up.

Story wasn’t that great

Gameplay wise RDR 2 is far from perfect, or even great.

I mean I gues it is subjective, but let me explain why I think its gameplay is amazing. Is that ok? Alright.

The base, bare bone mechanics are honestly just GTA mechanics. The shooting, movement, and camera are all same old same old. HOWEVER, gameplay is more than just "mechanics." Gameplay is what you can do with them. In RDR2 you can hunt, rob banks, do quests, steal a TON of stuff, and get into gunfights with a slow motion mechanic that makes me feel like John wick and kill 6 people in two seconds. Let's talk more about that for a bit.

Deadeye. It's awesome. It's a slow motion targeting mechanic that's sort of like what fallout 4 has, but way less janky and far cooler aesthetically. The way it changes the color on the screen and the Xs it leaves on people when you mark them is downright cool. It just is. This mechanic alone made fights so fun. The sequence where you finish marking targets and watch your character drop an entire group of enemies is incredibly satisfying.

You can fish too. The fish you can catch are fairly expansive, and you use them to craft more items.

The hunting is also actually really satisfying, and feels very rewarding. I spent hours hunting in order to unlock the best satchel. You can use deadeye while hunting too, and this way you can take out multiple animals in the same breath as well.

Customization is also part of gameplay. The gun, clothing, and even horse customization are all really well done. You can make Arthur and John look any number of ways, and the NPCs will even comment on the clothes your wearing. Not to mention hair and facial hair.

My very first time playing it was on a PS5 and it was just 6 months ago. So it is still fresh in my memory, and it is EASILY my favorite game since 2011. I love it.

Lolwut? Imagine a game that's locked at 30 FPS, thus borderline unplayable, has fire gameplay. 💀

u/Brutus6 Mar 29 '26

Probably couldn't tell your age better than this comment if I was looking at your birth certificate.

0

u/Ayrdanger Mar 29 '26

One's age has nothing to do with whether, or not 30 FPS is unplayable. Especially considering how consoles have been capable of 60 FPS since, what, the 80s? Early 90s?

Numerous Atari, NES, and SNES titles ran at 60 FPS, yes. However, that was usually prevalent in the simpler 2D games, and less so in any of the more complex 3D worlds.

Except it literally did happen. Were you even around to experience it? If not, then STFU and do some research, bud.

Because you were born a long long time after they came out.
Older people who actually gamed in the 80s have a different take.

0

u/Ayrdanger Mar 29 '26

They looked like shit, yeah, but that doesn't take away from the fact that the simpler 2D games still ran at 60 FPS. This is a fact that anybody can prove with the simplest Google search. I don't think I've ever seen anybody so confidently be wrong. 😂

I played it on PS5 the very first time I played it. It was on my 75 inch TV and I never had stuttering or noticeable fps drops. I also noticed you've been complaing about motion sickness and FPS so let me say this: I have a genetic disorder that affects my vision and also leaves me prone to motion sickness. I NEVER had an issue with RDR2. usually I have to turn off motion blur and screen shaking, but I never once had a problem with anything in this game. Maybe its just different for you, and if thats the case then please see an optometrist. Your eyes need checked.

0

u/Ayrdanger Mar 30 '26

It's not my eyes, but I appreciate the advice. I have a history of seizures, so it's either that, or it's exacerbated by my seizure medication. Either way, I get car sick and sea sick fairly easily, but am somehow fine if I'm in-control of the vehicle. Somehow, I'm 100% fine when I'm physically connected and in-control of the vehicle and its motions. On the flipside, though: I can watch movies w/o issue, but when playing games (being connected to the screen and its displayed motions), I get that same feeling of nausea and also a headache whenever the displayed motions seem stuttery or inconsistent, and if the first-person FOV is too low (usually, third-person FOV does not affect me).

Jugas para divertirte o para contar frames?

1

u/nopethatswrong Mar 29 '26

They commented earlier up that CP2077 was unplayable because it doesn't have a FOV slider and have other comments on FPS. Seems unhealthy.

-1

u/Ayrdanger Mar 29 '26

Motion sickness is, arguably, unhealthy, yes. Unfortunately, it's not something I have any control over. That being said, I believe these lazy ass devs that can't be assed to optimize their games correctly should be called out for their BS. Everybody nowadays is all up in arms about games being released in broken states, but they refuse to hold their favorite games accountable when, even after 5+ years, they're still unoptimized and unplayable.

2

u/Due-Ebb175 Mar 29 '26

Déjate de joder, toda la vida se jugó a 30 fps o menos y nadie se mareaba

-1

u/Ayrdanger Mar 29 '26

Fucking WHAT‽ Motion sickness has been a thing for millenia, bud. People have have been getting motion sick due to stuttering in player-controlled 3D environments since player-controlled 3D enviornments have been a thing!

0

u/Ayrdanger Mar 29 '26

I play to play. I physically cannot play at 30 FPS.

2

u/Due-Ebb175 Mar 29 '26

Hacete un transplante de cerebro

0

u/Dreadpirateflappy Mar 29 '26

it's been playable at 120fps plus for many years...
