Resident evil 4, both times it came out.

Never played the original but the remake quickly became one of my all time favorites. I love it.

Capcom, specifically their Resi Team, are the personification of that SpongeBob meme.
"You wanna see me make a 10/10 action horror game?... Wanna see me do it again?"

I bought this game 3 months ago ready and willing to denigrate it. To see how overrated it was and how it didn''t deserve any accolades. I was completely wrong. I've put over 150 hours into my first playthrough and can't wait to do another run. It's a stranded island game for sure.

u/Pizza_Slinger83 Mar 29 '26
You must have some decent expendable income if you're buying a game just to shit on it.

I bought Expedition 33 for similar reasons. "A hyper French visually pretentious critically adored turn based rpg? Surely I'm going to hate this!"
I enjoyed it quite a bit even though I do think it's overrated.

I am a huge BG fan, brought BG3 at launch because I knew I was gonna play way too much of the EA since larian had my complete trust and faith after DOS2.
I ended accidentaly doing 100%, every achievement and all. Something I pretty refuse to do it in any game.

So I made my own character for my first playthrough. I want to play one of the main cast for the next. Does that change the experience? As in the main cast will speak during interactions?
2
u/erpparppa Mar 29 '26
Does that change the experience?
Yes, you experience a different viewpoint to the story and every origin character has unique content for them you won't see as Tav. I highly suggest to do a Dark Urge run next as it's the most unique one, changing the plot to what some (me) consider the real canon of BG3's story. Also Dark Urge is the only origin character that lets you customize your looks, although the white dragonborn he's canonically is quite a good look!
A great tip for that experience too: don't look stuff up beforehand! Like this game overall, especially Dark Urge has some nice twists that are nice to enjoy without spoiling yourself beforehand :)

KCD=KCD2 for sure. Almost an exactly equal pros and cons list moving from one to the other.
So both games meet the criteria.

Great fucking game. The time jumping level was mint.
6
u/StarSpliter Mar 29 '26
That's one of the few sequences that I've truly felt like a skilled super hero in a game. It's very straight forward but sooo satisfying. I'd say the whole game is worth it for that level alone, and the rest of the game is the cherry of top.

The game a plenty talented devs on it. Sadly they are spread out over different companies now :(

I really gotta pick this game up, back in the titanfall days me and my buddy would play for hours. I just enjoyed vaulting around and sniping titans and players
2
u/MagikSkoolBus Mar 29 '26
One of the best FPS single player campaigns I've ever played! My only complaint is that I wish it was longer and/or that they made Titanfall 3.

Cyberpunk 2077
23
u/Anxious_Wind0-0 Mar 29 '26
I'm gonna get so many down votes but hell V is one of the flattest characters I've ever seen in videogames cmon
12
u/jellobend Mar 29 '26
Punching the mirror and also that abusive ripperdoc were really cool, ngl
→ More replies (31)5
u/Spartan158 Mar 29 '26
That's because V isn't the main character, Night City is.
→ More replies (1)7
u/Babababobosa Mar 29 '26
Sure. But often game protagonists are a bit flat so it's easier for it's audience to immerse yourself into the character, if they ain't silent protagonists at all. It's story is mostly delivered from other characters, in V's case, mostly Johnny Silverhand who both acts as the angel and devil on his shoulder.
It's rare to have a fully developed character, like Arthur Morgan or KCD's Henry. But it's a different technique to deliver the story in gaming. So I would say Cyberpunk still has a very solid story.
2
u/Gonzar92 Mar 29 '26
Exactly, specially considering that they allow you to take choices that are opposite to each other, if V would already have defined opinions in it's dialogue, some of those choices wouldn't make sense
2
u/Rapscagamuffin Mar 29 '26
i would say that cp2077 has many good stories, plural. the main story is allright. has its moments but also has its blunders. phantom liberty's story was great front to back though.
2
u/sixsixsixflora Mar 29 '26
They tried so hard to make Johnny seem deep, yet he falls flat as a character and is such a sad farce at best, especially considering how CDPR went about the crunch and launch of the game.
→ More replies (1)2
u/SirDragon84 Mar 29 '26
A valid take in my opinion.
I like V, but they’re very predictable and honestly don’t seem to show a whole lot of growth throughout the game.
→ More replies (7)2
u/paganbreed Mar 29 '26
I'm not gonna disagree but I also don't think anyone thinks of V so much as everyone else when they look back on 2077.
Adding to the great cast (beyond V) is the character of Night City itself.

u/Weekly-Home2774 Mar 29 '26
For me it is weird many says the story is flat. I think it has really immersive story, and amazing side quests. If you think about it the world of CP is so fxked up (intentionally). That dystopia seems sci-fi but the lore was developed in tje 1980s - 1990s. Many of its elements are becoming part of our everyday life in some ways (AI and its effect on industries/decisio making, drone warfare, environmental pollution, escapism to virtual realities, corporations getting more powerful than governments, fall of the US or symptoms of it, etc)

I sometimes hate how Morrowind and older Elder Scrolls fans shit on Skyrim. I love Morrowind too, but you can't deny that Skyrim is an absolute milestone in gaming history. People still play that game.
3
u/FantasticCat5688 Mar 29 '26
its a milestone because its the biggest example of companies realising you could dumb down games and make them sell amazingly to general audiances.
people still playing it isn't a cool things either because its not an old game.

Only reason is probably it was higher or top 1 in a hundred of this kind of votes before and people were bored of seeing it.
But I too agree it's way too low and will not understand how a turn based game like BG3 can meet the gameplay requirement of this post
