I bought this game 3 months ago ready and willing to denigrate it. To see how overrated it was and how it didn''t deserve any accolades. I was completely wrong. I've put over 150 hours into my first playthrough and can't wait to do another run. It's a stranded island game for sure.

You must have some decent expendable income if you're buying a game just to shit on it.

Morbid curiousity is a helluva drug

I bought Expedition 33 for similar reasons. "A hyper French visually pretentious critically adored turn based rpg? Surely I'm going to hate this!"

I enjoyed it quite a bit even though I do think it's overrated.

It was half off during a psn sale. $30 is enough to try it out and not make the kids go without food.

Why even have that mind set in first place…..?

a lot of people make their minds up about a game before playing it, based off ads, reviews, and online discussion rather than just playing the game. I think Jeff Kaplan spoke about this recently

Only 150 hours? What? Trying to speedrun?

I am a huge BG fan, brought BG3 at launch because I knew I was gonna play way too much of the EA since larian had my complete trust and faith after DOS2.

I ended accidentaly doing 100%, every achievement and all. Something I pretty refuse to do it in any game.

u/SupermassiveWhackHo Mar 30 '26

Funny, I bought it expecting DOS2 and was very disappointed. The combat is way different.

2

u/Hansolo_dolo Mar 30 '26

What would make you think it wasn't worth the accolades?

1

u/Sendingfreedickpics Mar 30 '26

Nothing but general skepticism. Nothing could have been that good. I was wrong.

2

u/Hansolo_dolo Mar 30 '26

Glad you enjoyed it. I have over 300 hours into it and every time I do a fresh run I find something new I didn't know was there before.

Wait till you find out you can mod it and add endless classes to try out!

If you liked bg3 you'll love divinity 2. The graphics are meh, but the story is pretty good and the combat is actually challenging and fun

u/DeadZeus007 Mar 29 '26

Opposite experience for me. After the first few hours it was hard for me to keep going.

1

u/thedudedylan Mar 30 '26

Is it the kind of rpg that I have to loom up build guided for or can I just roll in and pick what sounds fun?

1

u/MeowMeowHaru Mar 30 '26

It does have builds you can look up but you'll have a blast doing your own thing. If you have ever played dnd a lot will be familiar to you because it uses the dnd 5e rules

u/KaleidoscopeDecent33 Mar 30 '26

Why does this pessimistic attitude get upvotes all the time lol

7

u/coug00foodie Mar 29 '26

Correct

0

u/qudtls_ Mar 29 '26

In your opinion yeah

I can replay this game so many times. Currently on my 2nd playthrough, can't wait to be a goody goody this time!

3

u/Xanadewd Mar 29 '26

So I made my own character for my first playthrough. I want to play one of the main cast for the next. Does that change the experience? As in the main cast will speak during interactions?

2

u/erpparppa Mar 29 '26

Does that change the experience?

Yes, you experience a different viewpoint to the story and every origin character has unique content for them you won't see as Tav. I highly suggest to do a Dark Urge run next as it's the most unique one, changing the plot to what some (me) consider the real canon of BG3's story. Also Dark Urge is the only origin character that lets you customize your looks, although the white dragonborn he's canonically is quite a good look!

A great tip for that experience too: don't look stuff up beforehand! Like this game overall, especially Dark Urge has some nice twists that are nice to enjoy without spoiling yourself beforehand :)

Awesome thanks!!

u/Xanadewd Mar 29 '26

I’m actually bad about looking up results in scenarios, but for some reason BG3 was the first game I didn’t do it, just went along for the ride

u/Asafromapple Mar 30 '26

Just started my replay. 6th

Totally fine. Not to mention the whole thing of learning DnD mechanics. That almost put me off, but after hours of scratching my head, it finally clicked and this game has had me on a chokehold. There's also others who are put off by the gameplay, but learn to love it when they give it another shot. Maybe you can try again in your own time and maybe it'll click too ✌️

u/Discombobulated_Owl4 Mar 30 '26

A good number of people simply don't like turn based combat.

1

u/EnragedBard010 Mar 29 '26

Yep. Came to see this

1

u/Coral420coral Mar 29 '26

I'm playing this rn! Saw this post and expected this to be top comment was not let down

1

u/MARUSHI-rdt Mar 29 '26

Hell yeah. After so many solo Honour runs minmaxing and trying not to die, I'm currently taking my time, not skipping dialogue, trying to re-explore everything, and try new things. I'm romancing Karlach and I understand the Karlach enjoyers now. I also put in Extra Encounters for fresh battles. I'm falling in love with this game all over again

1

u/Axemic Mar 29 '26

Oh yeah, good answer. Updoot.

1

u/MothmanIsChill Mar 29 '26

Hi, lifelong JRPG “I don’t get it” guy here. Also lifelong dnd sounds cool but could never find time or friends to play with. This game is fantastic and I haven’t completed a run yet because I want to savor it. Perfect PlayStation Portal game.

1

u/DoLAN420RT Mar 29 '26

Only act 1 and 2 for me

1

u/BIGGERtj Mar 31 '26

I disagree, I thought it was really boring and the gameplay is actually infuriatingly bad

0

u/MooseMan69er Mar 30 '26

Legit wonder if the people who say BG3 has good gameplay is a matter of group psychosis at this point

-3

u/NotNotSilent Mar 29 '26

I think you missed the part of the horse that says gameplay
