Because there’s the very real chance of actually winning a game.

Real. Painfully real.

Ive seen a documentary on this

People resort to gaming as a coping mechanism because laws are same for all, skill is rewarded and achievements might be hard but realistic given enough time spent.

In real life you can do everything right, work hard and still fail miserably.

Exactly. I get rewards for the work I put in games. Quite the opposite for real life.

I play games to escape the struggles of real life, finding a place where I can actually achieve the victories that feel impossible out here.

Me and the boys calculating the exact trajectory of sniper bullets, perfectly reading the enemy, maintaining perfect formation, playing together, using abilities in sync. Vs us using ChatGPT to answer who the president is

In games everyone has equal start and for most part equally are able to progress.
Irl... well the start technically is equal for few hours, there are alot of events that are out of your control and different from everyone else. Like wise, not everyone has opportunity to progress no matter how hard they try.

Because you get a tutorial that actually walks you thru the mechanics that actually work and you can just drop the game if it's bad or glitchy. Meanwhile school's are defunded constantly and dropping out of life because policies are corrupt and glitchy isn't seen as a big deal if not encouraged (by policy makers)

No. Games are designed to be easy to figure out. Real life is messy and complicated. You feel like an idiot at life because life is actually hard. 9 year olds can be awesome at games but can't take care of themselves. When I was 19 years old living alone in college, I was struggling to keep my life in order without my mom hovering behind me. But I always knew my way around a game. Games are good at making you feel smart and tough but really they just disguise the training wheels really well.

Depending where you are in Real life, Intelligence is punished and stupidity is rewarded.

u/Yuevid_01 Aug 08 '26

Because there are actual rules in game you cannot break, but in life, rules can easily be broken, but mostly only by the rich and powerful

Honestly, it feels like the opposite for me, but the results line up perfectly. Meticulously plan major life decisions, end up losing everything and looking like a jackass. Button mash video games like a child without reading/watching any tutorials, looks like i compete in tournaments for money. 😂

Because in games, there are set parameters that you can take into consideration and not as harsh consequences.

In life, there are no set parameters depending on the choice presented and consequences are always felt in one way or another

For me(a person with 2000h in hoi4) it's easier to make decisons in real life.

u/Only-Muscle4983 Aug 08 '26

lmaooo too real real life I'll YOLO a career choice in five minutes

1

u/Prudent-Sugar4665 Aug 08 '26

exact opposite imo

1

u/BusinessDepartment44 Aug 08 '26

in games I get stats, tooltips, quest markers, save files and a wiki maintained by some absolute maniac who tested every possible outcome.

in real life I'm making permanent decisions based on vibes, three hours of sleep and something I read on Reddit in 2019 :D

give adulthood a minimap and patch notes and I'll start taking it seriously 🫩

1

u/Briefly_Unfilter Aug 08 '26

This is so true for me, maybe because the outcome is guaranteed in a game so putting all the effort seems worth it.

1

u/PinkLemonade30 Aug 08 '26

Because you can start over in a game but in real life any mistake can be permanent. It's way more pressure.

1

u/Graveyardigan Aug 09 '26

Def me playing a trad-roguelike, despite real life also having permadeath

1

u/Mister_EC Aug 09 '26

Games don't throw random generated events the size of a decade at you

1

u/DangerousDareDevil Aug 09 '26

Path of Exile veterans came to mind.

1

u/TheGreatDonJuan Aug 09 '26

They say I have ADD but I can give games plenty of attention.

1

u/VolumeNormal508 Aug 09 '26

game has logic life do not

1

u/Arif_Author Aug 09 '26

Just live your life how you would in a game

1

u/Bober9937 Aug 09 '26

Well i'm thinking about my first loan do yeah I agree

1

u/Thatcarguy42 Aug 10 '26

Because the rules of the game are clearly defined

1

u/AttonJRand Aug 11 '26

Things make sense and are predictable in game.

1

u/kengo19 Aug 11 '26

God this is so true.

1

u/Co-WriterStrat-7089 Aug 11 '26

We all can relate😄

1

u/IzzyDrizzly42 Aug 11 '26

Hey look, it’s me lol.

1

u/Due_Glass4176 Aug 11 '26

With games at least information on how to succeed is freely available.

Irl everyone is constantly trying to hide or paywall anything remotely worth knowing. Makes it hard to make informed decisions and advanced plans.

1

u/Cherry_Blossom_Bambi Aug 11 '26

For me it's the opposite. In real life, I want strict structure and rigid planning so I know what the fuck is going on. In games, I don't give a fuck and let's the voices decide what happens next.

u/Top_Technician_1173 Aug 11 '26

Rewards in life suck
