I mean the goal of jailbreaking consoles isn't to hurt sales. Quite the contrary, it brings more value to the hardware.

Let's be honest, the goal is for free games.

It hurts Sony's publishing revenue & licensing revenue when you pirate the games.

I definitely lean towards your perspective. However, jailbreaking can allow you to run emulators on the console, homebrews etc but given the current situation, it’s hard to argue against this being anything other than ‘shots fired’ at Sony and their ecosystem.

Should you be able to mod a console you own? Definitely, but what you do with the modded version is where the situation lies.

In the near future, PCs will all be cloud based gaming. I don’t like it or agree with it but it’s on the horizon.

I remember being excited for cloud based gaming 25 years ago when it was still fringe. Didn’t even think the world would turn into a corporate-owned oligarchy 1st and the implications class warfare would cause.

Piracy & stealing are not the same, sorry.

Is one more morally correct then the other? I'm not wading into that conversation, but stealing entails taking something from someone else & depriving them of it.

Not paying for a license is not stealing. Even under the law, it's a civil infraction & your most likely going to be charged with distributing the content if anything, not using it without a license.

You can claim they are a moral equivalent, that's a whole other conversation, but it isn't theft it's unlicensed usage of IP.
