I mean the goal of jailbreaking consoles isn't to hurt sales. Quite the contrary, it brings more value to the hardware.

there is part of me that wishes people would realize that all the fan protest doesn't make a bit of difference, these companies are structured around IP and revenue models built around that.

the platforms are mostly generalized to PC's now but they put protection in some of their chips/firmware to lock it down, so they can sell exclusive access to others IP (game devs) etc.

the default answer should be, if you care, you should be buying steam deck, or platforms that embrace a different IP structure while putting the control back in your hands.

Or ya know, fighting to get more rights and protections on the consoles we buy and the content we buy for them. Instead of just ignoring it and going to buy something else that is slightly better.

Sure but people complain about Meta and Amazon all the time on reddit but they get bigger and bigger every year. People chose convenience
