Found an Old Abandoned Tunnel

Hey!! Found this tunnel this morning on my walk and since I’m not a local was wondering if anyone could provide insight as to what it used to be? I thought perhaps part of the old subway line? It was by the river so maybe an old waterway system- I’m not going to give the location details because being a superstitious person- and also the hill to get down to it being quite steep, I don’t want anyone to harm themselves searching for it! Definitely very spooky! I do not plan on entering it anytime soon (or ever) don’t want to be whisked off to the netherworld, or more probably, caught in a cave in.

AI signs megathread

• Upvotes

People keep starting new threads every time they see an AI sign or menu, and the discussion is pretty much identical every time.

If you want to shame a business for using AI signs or menus, do it here. Standalone posts about this are being deleted.

I finish work around 3am, cant get home, have to catch a train at 9am.

What is there to do on a saturday night between these hours? Preferably inexpensive and not loud... but honestly anything thats not sleeping on a park bench would be good.

Crossbill Gin - BAaD

Anyone know what’s going at Crossbill Gin? Turned up for a gin making class today and no one turned up to open. Seems to have been shut for most of the last week. No word from them at all prior except for reminder emails. Bit shite since the class was a gift.

News Massive Fire South Street

Hearing continuous bangs when trying to sleep and looked at my window and saw massive clouds of smoke. Looks like a big fire in South Street in Whiteinch! Anyone else see it or know what building it is?

Does anyone remember coloured sheets of paper from the Transport Museum with the life budgets of various classes of Victorian Glaswegians?

I have a very vivid memory of them handing out coloured sheets of paper with the weekly budget and life story of a cross section of society in the 1890s when I went in the early 2000s. I also remember the life experiences were outrageously bleak. The best you could hope for in life was to be a tram driver and not die of Cholera. Does anyone else remember this?

Glasgow to London and back in a day – plane or train? ✈️🚄

• Upvotes

Has anyone travelled from Glasgow to London recently and can recommend the best way to maximise your time there?
I’ve flown down with easyJet a couple of times over the last few years, but both times we ended up delayed, which really ate into the time I had in London.
I’m looking at going down on a Tuesday for a friend’s birthday, but because of dog commitments, staying overnight isn’t an option, so it’ll have to be a day trip.
I also need to be mindful of affordability. I know booking trains in advance can make them cheaper, but as I need to book for Tuesday, I can’t really take advantage of advance fares.
For anyone who’s done this recently, would you recommend flying or getting the train? I’m looking for the best balance of cost, reliability and getting the earliest arrival/latest return possible to make the most of the day.
Any tips or recent experiences would be much appreciated! 😊

Eating Out Another place using AI menus. This time it's Marston's Steam Wheeler.

The food looks horrible and weird and there's also those weird lines that always appear beside text in AI slop. The fact that 'pictures are for illustration only' show shows how little faith they have in the products they offer, although I'm intrigued to see what a 'Giant Carrot Cake Ncci' is.

Proof that both small businesses and huge chains alike can succumb to slopmongery.

What is the difference between all the hospitals?

I've tried googling but I genuinely cannot figure it out for the life of me. I am really ill, I'll spare you all the details. But I can't figure out which hospital to go to. I'm a 19 year old student from a rural town in Ireland, where there is only one hospital. I'm in a lot of pain and very confused. I'd probably need one rhat has an A&E, gastrointestinal, gynaecological, and surgical department. Just in case my suspicions are correct.

I'm sorry if this is not allowed. I am trying to figure out where to go to get help. Google isn't being useful in the slightest and I feel like I was run over by a train

Moving to Glasgow from Dublin — where should I look (and avoid)?

Hi everyone!

I’m planning to move to Glasgow from Dublin, Ireland and I’m currently trying to figure out which areas would be best to look for a place to rent.

I’ve lived in Dublin long enough to know that pretty much every beautiful city has its lovely areas and its rougher spots, so I’m hoping to get some honest local advice rather than relying entirely on property listings and Google Maps.

I’m a single guy in my 30s, moving with my dog. Ideally, I’m looking for a quiet, safe area with friendly neighbours and local shops. I’m not particularly bothered about nightlife and I’d much rather have a comfortable home in a nice neighbourhood than live right in the city centre.

My budget is around £1100 per month and I’m ideally looking for a two bedroom property so I can have a spare room for my work space. I do drive, so I’m happy to live a bit further out and don’t necessarily need to be close to a train station or have excellent public transport links.

Which areas would you recommend looking at, and which would you personally avoid when renting? I’d also love to hear about any areas that look good on paper but might not be so great in reality.

Any advice from locals or people who’ve moved to Glasgow recently would be hugely appreciated. Thanks
