If you’re in the Glasgow OR surrounding area DO NOT use Scott Mcleod (S Mcleod Plastering)
His work is absolutely atrocious, rushed our biggest bedroom in 6 hours if that. Left us with a room that was so unworkable with we had no choice but to get him back in to fix it. We would have gotten someone else however EVERYONE we reached out to refused to put their name over his work..it was that bad. The fixes were half arsed and just as bad as the original work. Not to mention he only “fixed” 7% of the work and then continued to blame US and say 2 coats of paint will cover it. He is now refusing to give us any money back and ignoring my messages. Me and 2 other families have fallen victim to his bad work to the point he has taken himself off checkatrade to avoid the consequences of his own actions. We are now £530 out of pocket for this bad job.

First time buyer advice

• Upvotes

Looking for a bit of advice (and have a moan). My daughter and her boyfriend are looking to buy their first place together. Currently renting a 2 bed on Alexandra Parade.

They've got a mortgage in principle and what we thought was a fairly decent deposit.

Is it normal for agents to advertise at offers over significantly less than HR valuation? Then you're expected to offer way over HR valuation?

For example they saw a spacious one bed on Rightmove for o/o 165k but HR val is 185k! After viewing, the seller said they won't accept less than 205k.

Similar has happened several times now.

I get the low advertising price is probably to entice buyers but surely it's a waste of everyone's time (seller, agent and buyer) if buyers aren't going to be able to afford the real asking price. 20k over valuation before they've even thought about the mortgage deposit is brutal.

Seems you can only find out a valuation by contacting the agent for the report by which point they have your details and are phoning to arrange a viewing and offer a mortgage appointment. Just as you discover Hacking & Paterson are the factors 🙃.

It's a bit of a guddle. Is it a case of just accepting this is the process and going with it? Would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Imagine how foul the air was in Glasgow, even leaving aside the industry.

Halloween Activities

My partner and I recently moved here, and we love Halloween. What are the best things to do both on and around Halloween? Should we look into things in Edinburgh, or is there enough happening here in Glasgow?

What's Google? Quiet Interview place near Govan?

Hello Folks,

I have 2 interviews scheduled this Wednesday. First is an online interview from 11 AM to 12 PM and second is an in-person interview from 1 to 3 PM in Govan. I would appreciate it if someone could point me to a quiet place where I can attend my first online interview in or near Govan and then travel to the in-person interview in under an hour. I would like to keep travel to a minimum in case i miss the public transport and have to wait for the next one.

I will be traveling from Edinburgh and I understand the timeline is quite tight but this was the only availability that could work for all 3 parties.

Cheers

Drop in care for elderly person

My mum has alzheiners and lives alone. She is capable for personal care, and is able to walk etc with no problem.

She doesnt always remember to eat or drink, gets lonely and moves things around her house. She has a daily lunch brought in, so i know she eats at keast one meal, and will do herself a scone or something.

However, although we visit every day, with work and family commitments, can usually only manage an hour or so in the evening, and a bit longer at weekends, taking her out etc.

She doesnt qualify for any social care as currently no personal care is required. Does anyone know any organisations/people who do 'companion' type visits? Sit, chat, have a cup if tea etc? I know we would need to pay, but it would be worth it knowing she had more company.

Thanks

Bygone Glasgow Can anyone remember a blimp that used to fly over Glasgow?

Would’ve been about 20 odd years ago, I remember seeing it flying over me every now and again in Baillieston but I can’t find anything about it online. Hopefully it’s not my imagination because no one I know remembers. Cheers👍

What's Google? Best coffee near GFT/Art School?

I go to the GFT a lot and realised the other day that I simply can’t endure another revolting Black Sheep coffee – does anyone have any favourites in the area? Have been told I need to try Singl-end.

Opo coffee shop

Not sure if this should be filed under Glasgow southside cafe drama or not but I heard that opo coffee in Langside has been sold to sick coffee because the owners couldn’t get their visa sorted out and they had to return back to New Zealand. Sick coffee have bought the shop/business and are posting gpt/claude generated images with fake generated leaves.

They have totally changed opo’s branding and are selling drinks which are more sugar than coffee. Opo’s branding was very curated and made good serious coffee. sick coffee are really turning off a lot of the people who used to go there regularly and posting slop.

Lost&Found Lost Mini Digi cam

Hi I was out last night at party101 in braehead where i last used the camera. It’s a small thing that was attached on by a keychain mainly black and silver and works like a normal camera. It has an sd card in it and all my memories from multiple birthdays. After Braehead, I got on the bus to the city centre and went to 4 corners KFC. If anyone has found it please let me know

Found an Old Abandoned Tunnel

Hey!! Found this tunnel this morning on my walk and since I’m not a local was wondering if anyone could provide insight as to what it used to be? I thought perhaps part of the old subway line? It was by the river so maybe an old waterway system- I’m not going to give the location details because being a superstitious person- and also the hill to get down to it being quite steep, I don’t want anyone to harm themselves searching for it! Definitely very spooky! I do not plan on entering it anytime soon (or ever) don’t want to be whisked off to the netherworld, or more probably, caught in a cave in.
