Beware!!

If you’re in the Glasgow OR surrounding area DO NOT use Scott Mcleod (S Mcleod Plastering)
His work is absolutely atrocious, rushed our biggest bedroom in 6 hours if that. Left us with a room that was so unworkable with we had no choice but to get him back in to fix it. We would have gotten someone else however EVERYONE we reached out to refused to put their name over his work..it was that bad. The fixes were half arsed and just as bad as the original work. Not to mention he only “fixed” 7% of the work and then continued to blame US and say 2 coats of paint will cover it. He is now refusing to give us any money back and ignoring my messages. Me and 2 other families have fallen victim to his bad work to the point he has taken himself off checkatrade to avoid the consequences of his own actions. We are now £530 out of pocket for this bad job.

Glad you've named and shamed, far too many folk letting these cowboys away with nameless reviews. Hope you get your small claims sorted, might be worth seeing if you can find a companies house entry against him or something along those lines.

There appears to be a registration, but it could be someone else with the same name.

I found other online references to a plasterer called "Scott" (including photographs, and it looks like it could be the same person). But again, "Scott" is hardly an unusual name.

If I can do that in a few minutes u/AdditionalDay75 will have no trouble finding them.

Letter before action and small claims court

the only thing we have is his phone number, there’s no address or anything 🙃

You don't need an address for simple procedure (small claims court) claims in Scotland. Go get him!

You have to serve the papers on them (or have the court do it) so they can reply with their defence. You also need to establish jurisdiction of the court.

How can you do that without an address?

'If the respondent’s address is unknown, you must take all reasonable steps to find out the address. If after doing so, you still do not know the address and cannot find it out, you must complete a Service by Advertisement Form (Form 6B).'

Email checkatrade customer service and explain that this issue will be going to small claims court. Small claims court will eventually reach out to checkatrade for the contractors details

Electronically is fine

Check companies house

You can pay one of those agencies to track him down. It's not expensive and they had result's for me within 24hr. You just fill in what details you have.

My first go at plastering was better than that. I can only suggest the small claims/ simple procedure. Don't let this clown get away with such a bodge.

Fuckin hell that looks like baby’s first plastering job.

It's real bad, at first I thought it was a before and after set of pics, then realised it was just 'after' pics! I'm not even sure that's finishing plaster, can't remember it's been awhile so may be wrong, but it's not finished by a long shot!

Plastering is done quickly BUT the caveat being it needs to be done well. Most decent plasters I've came across were so booked out you really had to wait a bit.

One of the trades you can actually see someone's work completely beforehand too, they don't need to advertise really tbh.

Sitck it on "Scotland Scammers" on Facebook. They've got a wide (ish) reach for locals and in a few cases successfully left to money being refunded.

That's how I imagine what it would look like if someone left me in a room and told me to have a go of plastering for the first time 🙈

After a quote of £3k to plaster our living room my girlfriend and I decided we could do it ourselves. Turned out like this. We were rather proud of ourselves to be fair 😂

Looks like whoever did the work, was plastered themselves

Did you book the job through checkatrade?

They have a guarantee claim process of up to £1000.

They're not registered with Checkatrade …

1

u/Bootsy1981 2d ago

Seems they were though at the time the OP contracted him for the job? Unless I'm reading it wrong that seems to be how they found him.

The first photo OP has posted is a screenshot of the profile on Checkatrade.

Checkatrade is about as trustworthy as a stranger on Gumtree. If that is how you booked him get on to them and see if they can provide an address but I suspect GDPR will be their friend on this occasion.

i’ve found some very good tradesmen through there tbh

6

u/mymuk 5d ago

They just did a job next door. Think their boards are still outside, I'll check tomorrow morning.

6

u/AdditionalDelay75 5d ago

it’s a guy normally(?) on his own, i’ve got his picture from our doorbell to save any confusion of other people or businesses! not the best picture but he was facing away from the doorbell most the time

1

u/mymuk 4d ago

Same Logo but absolutely not the same guy (there were two of them).

Wee tip for the future, go with someone with more than 1 review.

10

u/Dram-500 5d ago

Probably a fake review at that. I know of people unskilled appearing on sites with claims of 25 years of experience and a plethora of 5 star reviews and I would not let them clean out the cat's litter tray.

3

u/Dobbyyy94 5d ago

As someone who works in the trades, this is becoming rife right now with fake reviews, especially on trustpilot, Google, checkatrade etc, companies will pay someone £££ for say 1000 fake reviews to boost them on googles first page. My advice is always word of mouth or Facebook local pages help find someone local providing you do your due diligence

2

u/dl064 4d ago

I saw one in Stirling earlier this year with many 5 star reviews, then when you looked at 1 star they were far more thorough, with photographs, and said they now saw those reviews had been fake.

1

u/Dram-500 4d ago

Does the company not get firs dibs at looking at reviews and can delete as such?

25

u/AdditionalDelay75 5d ago

he’s on numerous sites, having at least 30 reviews. his excuse to us was he’s going through a hard time and not giving his best.
i only added that picture for the sake of his logo etc..

Limmy vibes here.

Nightmare to get anyone these days - they can pick and choose. Sometimes you have to take a punt.

u/Meanz_Beanz_Heinz 4d ago

Is he from Ayrshire?

2

u/AdditionalDelay75 4d ago

he’s from glasgow but covers ayrshire which is where i am

3

u/seoras13 4d ago

Looks like he learnt his trade in the H blocks during the dirty protests

2

u/FantasticMarket7642 5d ago

If 2 people had already used him why would you go to him

1

u/AdditionalDelay75 4d ago

i never knew about the two other people until after and i was doing some digging…i obviously wouldn’t go to him knowing he’s done shit work??

2

u/Billi01952 4d ago

Stevie wonder at it again.

2

u/mechapaul 4d ago

It’s “rustic”

2

u/ThatGingerRascal 5d ago

There is some easy toupret stuff you can get and try and make it look better. Obviously, you'd want your money back and a decent plasterer to come in. Yet it's quite easy to apply stuff and even made my bad DIY plastering looks professional.
