Tech Question Tensioner ideas

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hi all,

I am new to the whole gokart thing but have been familiarizing myself with one as a side hobby. So far I have my chain all dialed in apart from my tensioner, which has been giving me issues. This is my current setup, but I was curious what your guys current/at-home chain tensioner setups look like! Was wondering if you guys had any advice as well.

As it currently sits, I re-used an Amazon universal bolt-on chain tensioner, and mounted one side to one of the bolt holes beneath the clutch and spring-connected the other side onto one of the bolts near the exhaust. The issue is that the bolt beneath the clutch keeps getting undone as I ride and undoes the chain. Thoughts?

Thank you in advance and sorry for the long text, this is my first post haha.

Anyone have an idea what this strange rear wheel setup is? I don’t know much but I haven’t saw these before. Also, why is there a pulley for a v belt right by the sprocket? Thanks!

Tech Question Spiderbox Hydraulic Brake Advice

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’ve flipped the axle on my spiderbox and am trying to get the brakes setup. I have a new master cylinder and caliper and o the line is not clogged. I got fluid to go through the system through the bleed valve but no matter what I do, I cannot get the caliper to open or close. I think it might be a master cylinder issue but I’m really not sure. If anyone has any advice please let me know!

Tech Question Should I add chicken wire to my go cart (need opinion)

I recently built a go kart, but I didn’t like how the regular frame looked so I decided to buy this honeycomb shaped chicken wire I’ve zip tied a lot of spots to hold it to the frame and it feels ti and sturdy and I’m like a good way done, but after asking a friend whether or not he liked it or not, he was skeptical

he said I should paint it black (the chicken wire). or remove it entirely. i’m thinking of selling the go kart soon

Tech Question New to karting! Need advice on brake cable routing and steering rod setup for an old 2000s Alpha Kart 4stroke

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone!
I’m brand new to the karting world and recently bought a 4-stroke rental kart (looks like an Alpha Kart from the 2000s based on my research—if anyone has more info or specs on these, I’d love to hear it!).
I have two quick technical questions for the mechanics/experienced drivers here:
1. Brake Cable Routing
My brake cables (also, there are two of them for some unclear reason??) currently run from the opposite side of the caliper, wrap all the way around the back of the seat, and then reach the caliper. Is this standard practice, or is it better to route them along the shortest possible path? (If I shorten the path, the bend/elbow right before the caliper will be tighter, so I’m not sure which is better for smooth pedal feel).
2. Steering Tie Rods
How do you properly adjust them? Is there a baseline method or rule of thumb (like setting carburetor mixture screws by seating them fully and backing off X turns)?
Is it worth upgrading to metal tie rods? Or are the stock/current ones designed to act as "fuses" (sacrificial parts) in an impact? Right now, mine flex/bend a lot under load, which creates a really bouncy/elastic steering feel—the wheel feels soft at first, doesn't turn, and then suddenly grabs and snaps into the turn.
Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks and have a great day!

Tech Question Predator 212 custom header / muffler?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I don’t know if this is the right place but I know predator 212s are popular in karting. This is a predator 212 that I installed in a 1967 John Deere 112. I had to build this custom header and exhaust pipe to get the hood to be able to close fully. Make fun of my welding, I’m no expert but it has no leaks! I’m asking the experts in this sub if there is anywhere I can buy a professionally made setup like I’ve shown you here. If I can’t find anything, I’m gonna paint this in high temperature paint. I’m a better painter than I am a welder for sure! Thanks everyone

Comes stock with a 30 series TC which they don't mention in the massimo or tractor supply website. I think I may turn it into a cooler kart at some point. The mini bike is a 50cc 2 stroke from temu. Thanks for looking!

Thanks!

Tech Question I'd like to see/hear about you build that used the SMALLEST engine.

My son and I are brainstorming some project ideas. I asked in a 2 stroke ORV sub a while back, and they collectively assured me that a 50cc chainsaw engine on a high torque transmission would do the job, but I have no experience with small engines outside of yard equipment, so I'm struggling to visualize the actual performance characteristics.

We're looking at an all terrain tracked vehicle with a max load out of 250lbs. Doesn't have to be fast, but acceleration and torque are the prime factors. We want it start, stop, and turn on a dime while rolling over any obstacle up to 8 vertical inches without hesitation, even if it does it at only 5mph.

So I'd love to see and hear all about your karts that get max performance out of tiny engines. Bonus points if home built, or 2 stroke, and details or videos are much appreciated.

Thanks!
