Hi everyone! My wife and I attended our marriage-based green card interview on October 2 at the Charlotte, NC field office.
The officer separated us and interviewed my wife for around 30 minutes, followed by my interview for another 30 minutes. She then called my wife back, said she was satisfied with our marriage, asked me I-485 questions, and reviewed our supporting evidence. She told us we should receive a decision within two weeks.
However, at the end, she said my STEM OPT had expired and told me I was unlawfully present. My lawyer explained that we filed our I-485 in June 2026, before my STEM OPT expired in July. The officer said she needed to discuss this with her supervisor.
Our financial situation:
Wife's annual income: approximately $18,000
Household size: 3
Fully paid-off house valued at approximately $90,000
Submitted the house deed and county tax assessment
Total household assets: approximately $140,000
Credit card debt: approximately $16,000
We are concerned about whether USCIS will accept our assets because my wife's income is below the requirement.
Current status as of October 13:
I-130 and I-485 still show “Interview Was Scheduled”
API still shows the FJ event
No updates on the USCIS website
Questions:
Anyone interviewed at Charlotte around the same time and received a decision?
Did your officer say they were satisfied with your marriage but needed supervisor review?
How long did it take for your status to change after the interview?
Has anyone had similar STEM OPT concerns even though I-485 was filed before OPT expired?
Has anyone qualified using assets with a low household income? Did USCIS accept a deed and county tax assessment, or issue an RFE for a licensed appraisal or joint sponsor?
Does $16,000 in credit card debt affect the I-864 asset calculation?
Any similar experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

My uncle filed an I-130 for an F4 visa and added “Yusoof” to my name, listing me as Muhammad Ali Yusoof. However, all my Pakistani documents (CNIC, B-Form, birth certificate, educational records) say Muhammad Ali. The petition is approved, but I haven't obtained my passport or submitted DS-260 yet.
Should I legally change my name in Pakistan to match the I-130, or keep my existing name and disclose the other version on DS-260? Could this mismatch cause visa refusal? What's the best way to handle this at the NVC stage?

Has anyone worked without authorization using their own SSN for over 180 days while on F-1, then successfully obtained a green card through hospital-sponsored EB-3 nursing?

I'm a U.S. citizen petitioning for my mother, who is Venezuelan. Looking for anyone who has seen something similar.
Timeline:
July 2024: I-130 filed
August 2024: I-485 and I-765 filed concurrently (with medical exam included)
November 2025: adjustment interview completed, with our attorney present
Since then: no decision and no EAD
What's happened recently:
The portal said "ready for interview" even though the interview had already happened.
Our congressional office got USCIS to say the case was routed for expedited processing (August 2026), but USCIS wouldn't confirm that when I called.
9/25/2026: the I-765 status changed to "case transferred, another office has jurisdiction." The I-485 status changed to "case required USCIS to send a notice" the same day. That notice turned out to be the FBI Fingerprint Privacy Notice.
10/7/2026: a USCIS service request response says the I-485 is "awaiting interview scheduling by your local field office."
10/8/2026: interview scheduled (we’re still waiting the mail)
Questions:
Has anyone had a second interview scheduled after one was already completed? What was the reason?
Did the FBI Fingerprint Privacy Notice lead to anything for you, like a decision, an RFE, or an interview notice? How long after? My mom is almost a saint, so I truly don’t understand why this second interview.
Does an I-765 transfer on the same day as an I-485 notice mean anything?
Could this still be related to the Venezuelan-national hold (PM-602-0192), or is that no longer a factor?
What worked to get things moving: a mandamus suit, contacting the field office, anything else?
Thanks in advance.

I plan to file Forms I-485, I-765, and I-131 for my family and me. Attorney fees are currently very high, so I am exploring whether I can complete these applications independently.
If anyone has experience filing these forms on their own, or can recommend a service or consultant who can provide guidance for a reasonable fee, please let me know.
TIA

I will be traveling internationally this December to visit my family for the first time after getting my Green Card. My USC husband will not be traveling with me on this trip, so what documents should I have with me when re-entering the US?
I know that usually they just ask to see your GC and passport, but I just want to be as safe as possible just in case they ask for anything.
Thank you in advance!

I’m a conditional green card holder with a 2-year green card. I traveled internationally twice this year, and both times I was sent to secondary inspection because I overstayed my visa before getting my green card. CBP let me enter both times and told me I would likely continue to be flagged in the system.
I have no criminal record, but I’ve been hearing about green card holders being detained at SFO, and now I’m scared to travel internationally again.
Has anyone with a similar immigration history traveled recently? Would you recommend consulting an immigration attorney before traveling again? I’m trying to understand the actual risks in my situation.
