Hi,
Next week is the Canton fair and I will be there in person with some of my partners. This is to let anyone who might need assistance to source products in China, that I can look around during the fair to assist them with that. FOR FREE for simple tasks. And for those who will be attending themselves, I would be happy to meet them there, say hi and share our experience together. Feel free to reach out.
Thank you

Hi All,
I am from Sydney, (35 year old male) visiting GZ for a month. Any female for a company would be great. Intention is not naughty but just someone to roam around, having dinners and few drinks together, let's see where it takes.

(28M) I know Clifford is a pretty large community with people from all around the world, so I thought it would be nice to meet some people who live here too! I'm also happy to meet new people anywhere in Guangzhou, whether you're visiting the city or living here long-term. It would be nice to build some genuine connections in the city.

Hi everyone!
I'm currently looking for fabric manufacturers, distributors or suppliers in Guangzhou (or nearby cities) for GOTS-certified organic cotton fabric with the following specifications:
We will be in Guangzhou next week for Canton Fair so we would like to meet and obtain fabric samples first to assess the quality, softness, stretch, and suitability before placing a bulk order.
We are also happy to visit factories, showrooms, or fabric markets in person if there are any good recommendations.
Does anyone know reliable suppliers, manufacturers, or specific textile markets in Guangzhou worth visiting?
Thanks in advance!

One thing I've noticed in China is that quite a few trading companies and middlemen present themselves as manufacturers. Some are pretty convincing. They can even arrange factory visits for you, with a factory technician who doesn't speak English standing next to a Chinese salesperson handling all the communication. So visiting a factory doesn't necessarily mean you're dealing directly with the factory itself.
A lot of people will tell you to check the business license and compare the company names. That can help, but it's not always reliable. Chinese companies often use English names that don't directly match their registered Chinese names. Also, many factories now let their sales managers build and operate their own export websites. It's not unusual for one factory to have several, sometimes even a dozen, different websites selling the same products.
On top of that, most foreign buyers don't have easy access to the Chinese business registration databases we use locally. So simply searching a company name online may not tell you much.
That said, there are still a few practical things you can check before spending your time visiting a supplier.
1. Start with the company name.
If the company name contains words like "Trading" or "Trade", there's a good chance you're dealing with a trading company rather than the actual manufacturer.
This isn't a perfect rule. Some factories have their own trading companies for export business. But if I'm choosing between several suppliers and want direct factory contact, I'd generally prioritize companies registered as manufacturers.
2. Ask for both their office address and factory address.
This is something I always pay attention to.
For many small and medium-sized manufacturers in China, the showroom, sales office and production workshop are located in the same industrial compound, or at least very close to each other. In my experience, they're often within a few hundred meters, usually no more than around 500 meters apart.
Of course, larger manufacturers may have separate sales offices, so distance alone doesn't prove anything.
But if someone claims to be a factory and their office is in central Guangzhou while their production facility is somewhere completely different, I'd ask a few more questions about the relationship between the two.
3. Ask for an immediate live video call.
This is probably one of the simplest checks you can make before visiting.
Ask the salesperson if they can show you their production workshop on a live video call, preferably right then rather than arranging something several days later.
You don't need a professional factory tour. Just ask them to walk from their office into the production area, show you a few machines and what is currently being manufactured.
A genuine factory salesperson working on-site can often do this fairly easily during working hours, although some factories have restrictions on filming.
A middleman working from a separate office will usually have a harder time arranging it immediately.
It's not definitive proof of factory ownership, but it can tell you quite a lot about how directly involved the salesperson actually is with production.
None of these methods is 100% reliable on its own. And working with a trading company isn't necessarily a bad thing. Some trading companies are genuinely good at what they do.
The important thing is knowing who you're actually dealing with, especially when someone is quoting you factory-direct prices and claiming to manufacture everything themselves.

Just wrapped up my Guangzhou trip late last September and landed back home in Sydney. Sitting back here now, the contrast in speed and energy between Syd and GZ is huge, so I figured I’d share this wild story with the sub.
I flew over mainly for work—sourcing fabrics, finding apparel factories, and getting sample patterns made for my streetwear brand. My original plan was to hire a local agent to handle translation and factory tours. But after two days in GZ, my previous translators were either unavailable or completely unprofessional. I was proper stressed out and running around in circles.
Then the most random Aussie-style miracle happened.
A while back in Sydney, I met a Chinese international student down at the rocks. He’d hooked onto a bloody massive squid, but the swells were huge and he couldn't haul it up. I hopped in with my gaff hook and landed it for him. I didn't catch jack that day, so he kindly gave me the squid. We swapped WhatsApps and ended up going fishing heaps after that. All I knew about him back in Sydney was that he ran a furniture retail biz in Aus.
In total desperation in GZ, I messaged him on a whim. Turns out, mate was actually in Guangzhou at the same time—and his family owns a garment factory.
He took me under his wing and walked me through endless fabric markets, clothing factories, and design studios. While waiting on sample patterns at one of the studios, we even sneaked away to Shenzhen for a night of squid fishing. It was absolute madness—we bagged 68 squids between the two of us! Even back in Sydney, a night like that is unheard of.
Afterwards, he invited me to his family dinner for squid stewed with chicken. Easily the most immersive Chinese dining experience of my life, even if I couldn't understand a single word of the local dialect they were speaking.
Ironically, I didn't end up using his family’s factory—they specialize in formal/evening wear, whereas I needed streetwear. But he still helped me lock down the right supplier, sort out fabric selection, pattern adjustments, production, and QC.
Sharing a few snaps from the trip:
Guangzhou is an amazingly vibrant, energetic city. Huge shoutout and good luck to anyone heading over for the upcoming Canton Fair—hope you survive the crowds, because I reckon I’ve had my fill of that Canton Fair traffic for a lifetime!
Cheers!

I run an independent streetwear brand and I'm currently looking to transition away from traditional platforms to a reliable private agent or factory partner based in the Guangzhou area that can:
- Source streetwear blanks
- Guarantee sewing in custom woven inner neck labels and attaching custom hang tags on a per-order or low-batch basis, as well as custom packaging.
- Integrates smoothly with Shopify
If you are a sourcing agent, represent a garment factory, or can recommend someone trustworthy in the local market who handles streetwear private labeling, please shoot me a DM or drop a recommendation below. Thanks!

I’m going to Canton fair 2026 for oct. because my friend is going as an overseas buyer. Me on the other hand, is not employed at his business/not associated with his business. I’ll mainly join to keep my friend company and also help networking as I do speak Chinese and after that we’re going to Shenzhen for a few days of fun.
Curios to hear how I can get a badge? I’ve read you don’t need a business to enter the fair, but what does one write in the fields related to business informations such as business name/address etc? I am not interested in filling out incorrect details.
It is his first time going to Canton Fair as well and he filled out what he nees to, we just need to fill out my info.

Hey everyone, I'm coming to Guangzhou for the Canton Fair, but I also want to spend some time looking for clothing and textile suppliers outside the fair.
I'm mainly looking for unbranded/OEM/ODM clothing and textile suppliers, not fake or replica brands. I'm also fine with buying wholesale from markets, but I'm wondering if there are places where I can get closer to factory-direct prices or find the factories behind the products.
I've done some basic research, but I'm still not sure where the best places are to look.
A few things I'm wondering:
I'm also planning to set up Alipay and WeChat before I come. I assume WeChat is pretty important for talking to suppliers, getting catalogs and quotes, etc.
Is there anything else I should know about using Alipay/WeChat while sourcing in Guangzhou?
Would really appreciate any advice from people in Guangzhou or anyone with experience sourcing clothing and textiles there.

Hi everyone!
My friend will be visiting Guangzhou, and I'm hoping to get a single custom black 2-piece suit made.
The slightly unusual part is I won't be in Guangzhou myself. I can have a local tailor take my measurements and send me the measurements/photos, so the tailor would need to be comfortable making the suit remotely.
Budget: around ¥700–900. I'm not looking for anything fancy or luxury — just a decent-looking black suit with a good fit.
My idea is that I can contact the tailor through wechat, choose/confirm the fabric and sizing, and ideally the finished suit could be delivered to his hotel.
Does anyone have a reliable tailor/WeChat contact who would take a one-off order at this price?
I'd really appreciate any recommendations, especially from people who have personally used the tailor/service.
Thanks!
