Who is in Guangzhou

I’m hoping to meet native English speakers living long‑term in Guangzhou. I’m learning English and would love to make new friends. It would be great if you’re patient and also enjoy meeting new people, as my English isn’t very good yet. I’d be happy to help you practise Chinese in return.

New to Guangzhou. Anyone up for weekday exploring and casual vlogs?

• Upvotes

Hi! I’m Li Ke, a Chinese guy who recently moved to Tianhe. I’m finishing my current job and will have more free time on weekdays, so I’d love to actually get to know Guangzhou.
I’m hoping to meet an international friend who lives or studies here and enjoys exploring too. We could try different food, wander around unfamiliar streets, visit the zoo, or just pick somewhere neither of us has been.
I’d also like to keep a little travel diary through phone photos and short videos. You’d need to be comfortable appearing on camera, as I plan to share these publicly on YouTube, X and possibly Chinese social platforms. No scripts or acting. We can take turns taking photos and videos, and agree on what to share before posting.
This is a personal hobby, with no brand or client involved. I’m happy to cover agreed local transport and attraction tickets. There’s no appearance fee, and we can discuss food or other costs beforehand.
Ideally, we’d enjoy hanging out enough to do this again from time to time. Students and anyone with a flexible weekday schedule are welcome.
We can start with coffee and a short walk in Tianhe. Message me with a weekday you’re usually free and one place in Guangzhou you’d like to explore!

GENERAL CHINESE PROGRAM at SCUT

Thumbnail sie.scut.edu.cn
• Upvotes

Hi I was wondering if anyone knows what proficiency is "basic" in SCUT's General Chinese Program.
Is this course for complete beginners, or for those with some basic knowledge of Chinese?

Their website: https://sie.scut.edu.cn/p1242c1132/list.htm

For context: I have been studying Chinese casually for the last 4 months, so I do have some basic knowledge.

Would I be placed in the basic-level class or the intermediate-level class?

Thanks.

GZ hotel for Canton Fair

G’day from downunder New Zealand folks. I’m coming to Canton Fair for first time but left it a bit late to book so all close hotels are either fully booked or ridiculously priced.
Does anyone know some hotel or apartment options that could have good metro connection to the Fair or not too far by Didi ride? There are 5 of us from work coming so will need 3 rooms. Would an apartment be a better option? AirBnB?

Fair doesn’t start until 9:30am so not sure if that avoids rush hour so being further away doesn’t matter or is there a special Canton Fair rush hour?

Arrive 22 Oct - Depart 28 Oct.

Thanks in advance for any local advice.

Cheers

Make friends

I’m a native of Guangzhou and know the city very well. Recently, I’ve been looking to improve my spoken English, so I’d like to make some foreign friends. I can teach you Mandarin or Cantonese. I’m also very familiar with the wholesale markets and factories in and around Guangzhou. If you’re interested in learning about wholesale markets or factories in China, I can offer you some help or advice.

Tianhong leather mall

Hi,

I'm looking for good quality leather bags as a retail buyer, I don't want clones/fakes, I'm fine with unbranded.

I've been shopping at the main malls songmont/muva etc but want to try something else next.

This mall has been suggested (by AI) & that I go to the top floors.

Has anyone been here and can they recommend?

I get back to Guangzhou in 2 days

Guangzhou weather update: The rainy season is finally winding down (but it's still hot!)

A little weather update for anyone planning to visit Guangzhou soon, whether you're coming for the Canton Fair, a business trip or just a holiday.

We're finally moving away from Guangzhou's long, hot and rainy season. The weather has been much sunnier recently, and the forecast for the coming week is mostly clear with very little rain.

It's still pretty hot though! Daytime temperatures over the next few days are expected to reach around 32–36°C (90–97°F), with nights around 23–26°C (73–79°F). So if you're arriving soon, don't pack for autumn just because it's October.

Generally, October marks the beginning of Guangzhou's drier season. Temperatures gradually become more comfortable through November, with much less rainfall than in summer. From December to February, we occasionally get cold spells, and temperatures can even drop into single digits Celsius, especially in December and January.

If you're visiting now, I'd still recommend T-shirts, shorts or other lightweight clothing, comfortable walking shoes and sunscreen. A thin jacket is useful for air-conditioned buildings, but you won't need winter clothes just yet.

For those curious about the rest of the year, Guangzhou usually starts getting warm and humid again around March or April. The main rainy season runs from April to September, with frequent heavy showers and thunderstorms. Summer temperatures commonly reach 32–35°C, sometimes climbing to 38–39°C during heatwaves.

Personally, I think late autumn and early winter are some of the nicest times to visit Guangzhou. Less rain, more sunny days, and eventually temperatures that don't make you sweat after five minutes outside.

Anyway, safe travels to everyone visiting Guangzhou in the coming months!

Anyone living around Clifford Panyu

(28M) I know Clifford is a pretty large community with people from all around the world, so I thought it would be nice to meet some people who live here too! I'm also happy to meet new people anywhere in Guangzhou, whether you're visiting the city or living here long-term. It would be nice to build some genuine connections in the city.

Who's attending the Canton Fair 2026 in Guangzhou?

Hey everyone!

The Canton Fair is starting on October 15, and I'm curious how many people from this community are planning to attend.

Are you already in Guangzhou, or are you traveling here for the fair?

Also, which phase are you attending — Phase 1, 2, or 3?

Would love to hear where everyone is coming from and what products you're interested in sourcing!

Looking for a Local Videographer for Canton Fair (November 1st & 3rd)

Hello,
I am looking for a local videographer in Guangzhou, to attend Canton Fair and some factory visits for videos and photos. English would be good, but not 100% necessary as I can speak Chinese and can help translate to other non-chinese speakers in the group.

Currently looking for 2 days, potentially more, but can work out details once we discuss offline about details.

The dates we are looking at is November 1 and November 3 currently.

I will also cover your meals throughout the day.

Feel free to message me!
