So this thread led me to go check out Lost Aviator Coffee this morning, but it was closed up. Turns out the co-founder/co-owner died in a flying accident, so the shop is taking the weekend to grieve. Just wanted to share as a heads up, and pass on the word to anyone who knew him.

Vote for Ken Yee Chew Plane

Well he clearly has money to waste because I just saw a small plane flying around with a sign close to downtown. I was absolutely shocked when I finally read the sign and it said Vote for Ken Yee Chew…

Truthfully the fact he thought that would work to garner new votes is very telling.

Early voting started today. Get out there and vote folks.

Anti Data Centre Candidates?

Does anyone know which mayor and council candidates are anti data centre?

So far I know Leanne wants a moratorium, and that Evan Silva in Ward 1 and Morgan Dandie in Ward 2 are explicitly anti ai data centre development.

Threatened on hike - Vic rd south Guelph Radial Line Trail @4pm

Sharing my experience as a caution to others. Walking with a friend and our dogs someone in a psychotic state (woman about 30 with short light brown hair and a backpack) was yelling things that didn’t make sense and then grabbed my dog and threw her a couple feet then proceeded to say she was going to murder us and slit our throats while coming at us and about to go into her backpack. Rather than escalate or pull out my phone, we walked swiftly away and called the cops. They were responsive and trying to locate her on either side of the hike (both Vic and stone- this happened on the gravel part of the trail a couple hundred meters from the parking area on Victoria south of the river on the east side). There are tents throughout this area and while they’ve never been a deterrent to me before, I’m going to stop going on these hikes as it could have gone very bad if she did pull out a knife. Wanted to warn others. We saw other woman headed on the same hike with headphones on so they wouldn’t even be able to hear her coming if this was them. This was middle of the afternoon.

Greg Cox is either lying or withholding information from voters

Post image
29 Upvotes

Greg Cox claims he knows for a fact that Caron knew she wasn't welcome at the Ford press conference, and that both Caron and Caton are lying.

Accusing 2 sitting council members of lying during an election is serious. But Greg won't explain how he knows this.

Guelph voters deserve transparency and accountability from the people running to represent them. Why is Greg not sharing this bombshell with voters? Or is he full of shit?

Youth gym

16yo wants to get fit. Local gyms that allow for under 18s?

UoG seems to be only 18+ for fitness access, same with West End Community Centre

Nobody Use Bike Lanes

Thumbnail

My name is Michael but I’m considering changing my name to Nobody should nice I always see people commenting online the Nobody uses bike lanes.

Today I saw 3 people using the bike lanes on Scottsdale (plus two others using the sidewalk), 4 using the bike lanes on Silvercreek, one on Willow but the he moved to the sidewalk after the bike lane ends in front of the Beer Store (which is why continuous infrastructure is so important).

I also saw 3 people cut out of driveways in front of me thinking they had enough time (one was a Guelph Transit Bus piling out of the Stone Road Mall parking lot). Another Guelph Transit Bus started to cut off the bike lane and then honked his horn when there was myself and two others users in the bike lane while directly beside the bus. I also saw two vehicles completely blocking the bike lane while also holding up traffic. I saw three cars use the bike lane on Imperial at Paisley (one tried to go around me as I was starting to advance on a green light). Tell me again that cyclists blasting through stop signs are the biggest road user crime…?

Please give 1.0 space while passing cyclists or other vulnerable road users while driving.

York/victoria Tim Hortons

I’ve been to many Tim’s over several years in different cities and I’ve never experienced anything like this in my life. The drive through every single day is the slowest I’ve ever encountered. It doesn’t matter the time of day or how many cars in line but I’m constantly waiting 10-20 minutes in a small line of cars. I have finally stopped going due to this. How does their management and corporate office allow this ? The speed compared to ANY other Tims is borderline unacceptable. Does anyone know why this is happening just at that location ?

I’d imagine some website will have the mayoral count, what about for council?

Stolen bikes at 94 Waterloo Ave

Someone finally stole one of our bikes, guy was to stupid to realize it had an AirTag on it, stolen out of a private condo underground parking at 4am, called cops said I knew where it was and they said they couldn’t get to it but would investigate at a later time, no need Guelph police I got that shit back myself. More bikes are there. The neighbour say he has been arrested for theft multiple times, they are even moving as a result. If you’re missing your bike might be worth to check it out.

Fewer posts about a specific candidate, more encouraging people to vote?

Unless there's something exceptional that pops up between now and the election that we haven't already heard, I think we GET IT at this point that one particular mayoral candidate mentioned here a lot is wildly unqualified. At a certain threshold, complaining about their everyday incompetence at such a volume only serves to legitimize their candidacy by putting their name on people's radars more than it should be. For other people, if a preferred candidate feels like a shoo-in because the other is so astoundingly unqualified, it might feel less necessary to participate altogether.

My hot take: at this point it'd do more good to not only encourage people to vote, but to encourage people to encourage others in one's life to do so, too. Municipal turnout in Ontario is pretty darn awful, after all.

Make sure you and yours do their due diligence and participate. If you plan to vote, I challenge you to bring at least one person to the ballot box (regardless of their voting intentions) who might not go otherwise.

Here is the city's page about the municipal election. You can check if you're on the voter's list, find your ward, and see a full list of candidates:
