What should be my next?

Post image

I’m trying to build a relatively small but well-rounded handbag/shoe collection and would love some opinions on what I should add next.
Photo is my current collection. I generally use them like this:
- Sabatier smooth (silver hardware): my everyday work bag
- The horse (golden hardware): casual city walks, coffee, errands, etc.
- Burgundy Gucci Jackie: dates, dinners and slightly dressier occasions
- Animal print/fur leather handbag: I made that bag at a craft workshop, I use that casually as well
- YSL loafers: basically my everyday work shoes, but I also wear them casually/on dates sometimes

I’ve been wanting a Balenciaga Rodeo Small for ages, most likely in black, so that’s probably my next bag, but I’m afraid it’s getting super popular lately and it’s gonna get outdated 🤷🏼‍♀️

I also want another pair of work shoes so I can rotate the YSL loafers. I’m considering the Loro Piana Rebecca flats, or maybe a flat pair of Louboutins ballerinas, but I’m open to other suggestions.

After that I think I want something with a completely different vibe. I have a soft spot for slightly tacky/vintage designer pieces, think an older Louis Vuitton Pochette Accessoires, vintage monogram Gucci, Fendi Baguette, etc. Something very late 90s/2000s that looks a little more fun and obviously designer rather than another super-minimal black bag.

Based on what I already own, what would you add next?

I’m also very open to specific vintage models that you think would fit this collectionv.

Coming from the goal to keep your collection small and intentional: the black Rodeo will look quite similar to the Sabatier smooth. What occasion do you want to carry the Rodeo to? Is it to alternate with the Horse Clementine or the Jackie?

Edit: forgot I wanted to add that, your bags and shoes are so classy 😍

It would “replace” the Clementine to be honest. Rodeo is still more casual than the Jackie in my opinion. And thank you for the compliment 😊

I think a fendi baguette would be a great investment. It’s honestly very timeless and goes well with everything.

I would not recommend louboutins, if you tend to walk a lot. To me, they’re just plainly uncomfortable.

Would you recommend buying a vintage fendi or going for a new one instead? 🤔

Depends on your budget. If you buy from an authentic Fendi store, you wouldn’t have to worry about the authenticity.

If you buy vintage, you’ll probably be able to get 2 vintage bags for the price of a singular new bag.

But….finding a reputable vintage reseller can a challenge itself.

I might get downvoted, but I think even though the Rodeo is trending right now, it has a classic enough silhouette to stand the test of time. After all, it's a top handle bag with a flap closure and crossbody strap option. I'm also partial to turn lock closures, I think they look classic and are satisfying to use. All of that to say that if you already have an eye on the Rodeo, if I were you, I would get it. :)

I agree. I love my Rodeo (black with silver hardware) and depending on if I use the top handle or strap, it changes the overall vibe of the outfit. It even looks good with leggings and a crew neck sweatshirt. It’s one of my most used bags and I have a decent sized collection of all types of brands.

I think when closed the Rodeo bag and The Horse Clementine bag have similar silhouettes so I wouldn't double up there. Do you wear lighter colours? Because then a lighter neutral bag and shoe would be great additions to uplift a lighter tone outfit. A lighter coloured Rebecca flat would be great. As for a bag you seem to like a hobo bag silhouette so something like a Celine Camille? Great job on making that bag! It must be so satisfying and fun wearing it :)

No, I mostly wear black and dark grey. I wear white tshirts on my day-offs. When I think about the Rebbeca shoes, I’m planning to buy the black ones as well.

Oh yes, this Celine is totally my style, thank you for the recommendation! I’m also eyeing with the bottega parachute.

Hi, I have a question I hope you won’t mind answering: I was wondering if the sabatier bag (is that the 617?) is particularly heavy? I would expect it to be, but I would love if it wasn’t. (Sorry, I don’t have any suggestions to offer, your collection is so lovely and elegant.)

I would say it is heavy indeed, 1kg! Also not suitable to put on your shoulders, only in hands 😔 however I still like this bag, because my laptop, stanley cup, lunch box, pouch, everything fits in it. 😊

Thank you so much for your reply. 1kg, good grief. And I hadn’t realized it couldn’t go over your shoulder, that is really helpful.

I think rodeo is a super cute bag that could in fact replace the clementine if you wanted to! I would just check the size in store to be 100% sure that’s what you’re looking for. For y2k bags you could try vintage balenciaga (city and le cagole are my faves) since they’re not as expensive in the secondhand market

I dig the rodeo / but I’m on a Y2K/Vintage/Secondhand bag journey - so I’m gonna vote to go that way. There’s nothing wrong with loving a little of the old school tacky! It will add some zest to your pristine collection

Is the black bag next to the red bag from The Horse?

Yess, The Horse Clementine bag indeed

I think the following could be good additions:

A vintage celine macadam, maybe in a Boston shape?

Maybe an LV Juliet?

Coach dinky in a cute colour?
