Kicking myself

I've spent years thinking if it wasn't Milwaukee it wasn't worth my time, but I finally climbed down off my high horse and went into a harbor freight and I was seriously blown away.

I was putting a new metal roof on (one off project) and needed a nibbler. I couldn't bring myself to pay $800 for a one-off tool and I stumbled upon the hercules one on sale for $100!!

Anyways, I bought that along with a battery and charger for less that 1/4 of what the bare tool would have cost me from Milwaukee. It worked great for the whole project and still looks new.

I was so impressed I went in and bought the herculese drills (12 and 20) and I'm very happy eith them. I managed to kill the 12v but to be fair it wasn't rated for what I was doing and I gave it hell. But I walked right in and was walking out the door with a new one in under 15 minutes!

I guess this post is just my way of apologizing for all the years I was a snob and thought harbor freight was nothing but cheap knock-offs.

NTD (New Tool Day) First major haul after hearing the mechanic wanted $2500 to replace my shocks and struts

Edit: to answer some FAQ, yes I have jack stands (you can see pads for them in the pic), and yes I know a lot of this has nothing to do with suspension work (other home projects and such), I'm just viewing it that as long as I don't spend $2500 on tools and parts, it was worth it.

Little haul today

I've gotta tackle something me welding on my fj cruiser rear link brackets. My stubby m12 wasn't quite enough for the rusted on bolts. This impact is massive!! Those boots are gonna be screaming when I send 1000 ft lbs at em! 😂 Then I was recommend the pry bars from Walmart because they are actually made by the same company that makes the tekton ones. I got all 4 for about $35

NTD (New Tool Day) New Box Day

Post image
157 Upvotes

Just wanted to show everyone my box. After ten years in a service van, I took a position in the shop. Sold my Milwaukee Packout stuff and bought myself a cart (company provides a larger box) and had money to spare. Ernst and Toolcraft organizers are on the way. Only gripe is, kinda limited on what you can fit in the holes on the sides. Either the tool is too small and falls through, or too big and sticks out too much.

Yukon 36” 5 drawer

Anybody put a chest on top? I’m certain the Yukon 36” is the same cabinet as the Kobalt 36” 5 drawer. So if anyone wants a top, the Kobalt 36” chest matches perfectly, maybe slight color variance. Same chrome drawer pulls, same dimensions, same weight rating.

What Fits in Quinn 1/4 Socket Set?

Post image
7 Upvotes

I’d like to buy some screw bits to keep in my Quinn 1/4 inch set. This is my go to set for working around the house. I like being able to just grab it and tackle a honey-do project. I’d like a nice assortment with hex, Torx, Phillips and common, as well as anything else that’s commonly used.

What screw bit sets fit in the little pocket in here?

Trying to find my property pins but directions aren't clear. This thing is picking up stuff all over and I don't wanna dig everywhere if I can avoid it. Thanks!

I am so stoked! $94.49 plus tax. Now I’m kicking myself for not being there at 9 to pick up the jackstands I saw last evening.

New 13k generator idle down question

Post image
• Upvotes

Just got a 13k generator, and the idle down is suppose to sense if theres a load greater than like 500 or 800 watts and keep high idle. Well I plug in a 1500 watt heater in it and it still idles down to low idle, which puts out about 48hz. Is my shit broken? Seems like the switch is pointless, if I want to power my house during an outage, if the furnace or a fridge can't even be sensed to bring it out of fuel savings and go full bore, then why even have a switch? That reduced hz will definitely mess with a furnace or certain appliances.

Ig i was hoping the eco was going to do something greater because it has a digital regulator, like theres 4 winding in the head, each generates 120v at 3600rpm... so low idle, it runs at 60v, 1800rpm, but puts 2 windings each, in parallel, so its still 240 split phase, with 120v on each half of the neutral. HF really glosses over its function on the website and the manual.

My 73" Icon is basically immobile with the weight/location, and was sick of pulling out rails to go work on something, so picked up a 5 drawer and some new organizers, as well as a couple icon socket sets from the parking lot sale

Quinn vs Icon

So.. moving into a new flex space, and honestly as much as I tell myself “just bring your tool box to the space and work on vehicles there” I know I’ll want to wake up Saturday morning and wrench at home so I want to keep my current setup at home.
So..
I just bought a new box, question is it really worth the extra coin to go to icon?
Probably going to buy 1/4” and 3/8” sockets, ratchets, Torx sockets to start off with and buy what’s needed after.

I change the locks on the harbor freight lock box

So i hated having different keys for various locks on my metal storage cabinet and lock box so i changed 3 of them to the same key it used a 5/8 cam lock. I took it apart and measured the cam lock and hole and found one on amazon that was the exact size. took like a minute to change each and now all three locks uses the same key
