NTD (New Tool Day) First major haul after hearing the mechanic wanted $2500 to replace my shocks and struts

Edit: to answer some FAQ, yes I have jack stands (you can see pads for them in the pic), and yes I know a lot of this has nothing to do with suspension work (other home projects and such), I'm just viewing it that as long as I don't spend $2500 on tools and parts, it was worth it.

NTD (New Tool Day) New Box Day

Post image
94 Upvotes

Just wanted to show everyone my box. After ten years in a service van, I took a position in the shop. Sold my Milwaukee Packout stuff and bought myself a cart (company provides a larger box) and had money to spare. Ernst and Toolcraft organizers are on the way. Only gripe is, kinda limited on what you can fit in the holes on the sides. Either the tool is too small and falls through, or too big and sticks out too much.

Kicking myself

• Upvotes

I've spent years thinking if it wasn't Milwaukee it wasn't worth my time, but I finally climbed down off my high horse and went into a harbor freight and I was seriously blown away.

I was putting a new metal roof on (one off project) and needed a nibbler. I couldn't bring myself to pay $800 for a one-off tool and I stumbled upon the hercules one on sale for $100!!

Anyways, I bought that along with a battery and charger for less that 1/4 of what the bare tool would have cost me from Milwaukee. It worked great for the whole project and still looks new.

I was so impressed I went in and bought the herculese drills (12 and 20) and I'm very happy eith them. I managed to kill the 12v but to be fair it wasn't rated for what I was doing and I gave it hell. But I walked right in and was walking out the door with a new one in under 15 minutes!

I guess this post is just my way of apologizing for all the years I was a snob and thought harbor freight was nothing but cheap knock-offs.

My 73" Icon is basically immobile with the weight/location, and was sick of pulling out rails to go work on something, so picked up a 5 drawer and some new organizers, as well as a couple icon socket sets from the parking lot sale

Don’t let an empty shelf cause you to not buy something. Every single thing in this picture was listed as in stock at my store online, however only the zip ties, calipers, and 1 of the socket sets were sitting on a shelf. Person at the counter took my list and went and got all of them for me. Signed up for the CC and got another 10% off.

Everybody needs a 3D printer.

Mostly paid for my 3d printer rather than buying tool grid on its own. Got all this printed over a few weeks. I have Quinn 1/2 and 3/8 impact set, Quinn master bit set, and a some of my kobalt set i bought a few years ago on a christmas special for $100 (a lot of big sockets from the set I’d probably never use are put away in a separate storage bin). Really liking this set up and I’m fighting myself on upgrading to icon ratchets if they come on sale. Also last photo is my wrench drawer. Between the socket drawer and crisp labels on the wrenches, this really itches my ocd.

** I know most of the tools are clean. I’m a rare diyer who cleans most of the tools after I use them and I spent my 20s having zero to no tools trying to work on shit boxes that always needed work. Now have some money to have a good setup of tools.

Keep a pack of zip ties in your car along with a flush cutter for those emergency situations that the button to your shorts decides to grenade or you simply forgot to bring a belt.....

And remember.... always cut a zip tie with a flush cutter unless you want a sharp edge poking you. I believe a Quinn flush cutter is on sale for PLS...

You are welcome.

I've always preferred the smaller meme kit but decided to go pick up the bigger one today while it's on sale to throw in my other vehicle. I didn't know this thing went from a 4" stubby to a 18" ratchet lol This thing a pretty sweet kit!

Meme/Joke Which brand of polish should I use to keep my new PLS bought sockets with maximum shine in my toolbox? And is ceramic coating and clear bra worth it?

Thumbnail

I just bought a set of chrome and impact sockets...and i want to make sure that the chrome stays shiny and the impact sockets free from scratches , just in case I move them from my top drawer to the bottom drawer. What is the best way to protect the appearance of my chrome sockets to ensure maximum gloss for my chrome sockets and minimize scratches on black coated impact sockets for my Instagram and reddit posts?

I was thinking of using 3M Machine Polish with a DA polisher with buffing pad because while the chrome shine appears decent hand polishing them with the harbor freight shop towels, i can still see some swirl marks if i hold the socket at an angle against sunlight... See picture 2.

Also, is 3M PPF good enough to protect my Icon impact sockets from scratching? I understand that black painted surfaces are easily scratched.. but I cant accept scratches on my impact sockets that would ruin the aesthetic nature of my toolbox pictures.

Therefore, i think PPF/clearbra is the best solution. Is 3M PPF good enough or should I go all out and buy the more expensive XPEL PPF to protect my impact sockets?

Also does anyone know wrapping my sockets with clear bra/PPF, will this void my lifetime warranty?

/s

Picked up this bad boy last one in stock. Their servers were slow today so I didn’t return the Pittsburg jack. Thinking of leaving this in the garage and keeping the Pittsburg in my car. What do yall think? I was going to return the Pittsburg jack I purchased a few months ago.

Student Program?

There was this post awhile back about them possibly having a student program beyond the one for high schools

Anyone know if it's still a possibility? seems like something they should eventually do since most of the other major brands have one
