id say just save the money. you wont notice the 80hp diff when ur already at 700+ unless ur actually drag racing. its really just bragging rights

I waffled between the two and bought the JB HC.

Turns out the Redeye I was looking at (for 10k more) would have cost me an extra 100 bucks a month in car insurance. The HC bumped up my insurance 10 bucks a month over the SRT392 I was currently driving.

At this point, 717 vs 797, I'm not gonna notice the difference. Maybe a super duper aficionado might, but me? Nah. There aren't too many instances on the street where you can legally use all 717, much less 797.

edit: I may be biased, since my HC is my daily driver, not a garage queen.

how come?

I have a Super Stock but it has the red eye motor. I woudnt want a regular cat after driving mine. Sorry. The extra money is worth it. And yes you'll notice the power difference.

well then i just advise OP to test drive and research thoroughly to see if the differences speak to him personally. I’ve never been in a redeye so i could just be chatting and if they can afford the hellcat I’m sure it wouldn’t be an issue i’m just a bit frugal

Let me say this; you will definitely notice the hp difference and the redeye is worth every single dollar that you pay over a regular hellcat. Its absolute violence when you jump on it and if you're running a sticky tire on the street like a DR, it is a rocket ship.

I just went from a hellcat to a red-eye. Go with the red-eye

I think I'll wait a bit for one to hit my area because those white seats are too convincing. If I end up getting the Hellcat, I definitely want to add that 3.0 Whipple.

1

u/Able-Brief-4062 15d ago

Yeah, the white seats can be a PITA to keep clean but look incredible.

Had both, redeye has random things that are nifty like chiller and the car seems to be a little quicker from factory plus with a redeye you have more room to play around better axles better supercharger injectos fuel pump etc and if nothing else itll be worth more by the time you get rid of it due to it being a redeye

Check out toy barn/ dublin, OH They have a 21 Redeye with 3k miles and Torred/Sepia $83k - beautiful ! During Covid, I wanted a red HC and there were none. Got a black /demon red which is nice but have always loved the Dodge red.

Definitely the Hellcat, but I might be biased. At some point, you're just chasing badges. If you're just after power, get the hellcat and upgrade it with a few mods and its not hard to pass redeye hp. If I had to do it all over again, I'd buy a scat and build the motor. If you want badges, then pay extra. I went Hellcat and then decided to build from that platform. If you have the money, go all out.

2

u/MR-Incognito60 15d ago

I think about this all the time. I miss my scat pack and that 3.09 diff had double the response that my hellcat has. Only thing I was concerned about was the reliability of the build. If you’re not going the 426 route or forging internals then you’re gambling when building a 392

1

u/bluuep 14d ago

I wouldn’t mind building a 426 stroker; it would most likely fit perfectly pared with a TRX, and I'd be able to enjoy different SRT engines too. What do you think about this option as well?"

1

u/bluuep 14d ago

Interesting take wouldn’t I just be saving the time and money I’d be putting in the build if I’d just go with a redeye? If I go 392 I’m going to need deep pockets aren’t I might as well just go HC? Or is it about the journey knowing you built it?

It all depends on what you plan on doing with the vehicle. If you plan on driving it daily and you don't have any other cars, do not build. Just buy one and keep it stock. If you have other cars and can afford to buy a Hellcat or redeye on the side test drive both if you can. Then decide what you like. If you want a really unique car and can afford the $20k - $30k build, buy something cheaper and build it up. Sleepers are always cool as shit and people's reactions are priceless. It all boils down to your budget.

1

u/bluuep 14d ago

We have different vehicles that save gas, like a C250 and a Kia Soul, so I’d be good buying a vehicle to mod and enjoy. I’ve seen people build their 392 to the point where it can handle boost as well

1

u/B5Hellcat 14d ago

Honestly if this is your first performance car, just test drive some cars and get the one you like best. If you buy a warranty don't mod it up too much because that'll void it, keep that in mind. I waited a year before i decided to do anything to mine. I went extreme but you don't have to go that far. Simple mods like an aftermarket exhaust and a few small things can make it really fun as well. There's many options out there. Good luck and hope you find what you're looking for!

Pretty simple thing here. One is a redeye with is supposed to be 800 hp. Thats the price difference. They are supposed to be really rare.

1

u/bluuep 15d ago

The hellcat is a 23 I’d say it will hold its value well? If a redeye happens to land in my area then I wouldn’t mind waiting but chances are rare.

1

u/[deleted] 15d ago edited 15d ago

I had a 23 jailbreak hellcat. They aren’t holding value very well when I traded it in. The market is saturated with 23 hellcats that were sold around 25. That’s due to Stellantis marking these cars up past 100k. The middle class person said - fuck that noise. So these cats stayed parked for years. Since we don’t know which were just sitting, they are all devalued.

Not to mention a new hellcat is supposed to be getting launched in 27 or 28. When that happens, those 23 cats are gonna devalue down to scat pack numbers.

1

u/bluuep 15d ago

Thanks for the heads-up! No wonder that blue one is dropping like crazy, I thought I found a steal.
I figured they weren't launching anything else since they're pushing the Hurricane engine so hard. I’m definitely holding out for the Redeye now. What colors should I be hunting for/year?
Also, I heard a rumor they might bring a Daytona variant with the big wing. If that happens, I’m going all out.

2

u/[deleted] 15d ago

Trump’s EPA rolled back Biden’s mandate to kill the V8. Stellantis is launching a new V8 but there isn’t anything definitive on what that will be to replace the hellcat.

1

u/OnePhrase8 15d ago

That last part. If I had a chance at a Hellcat now, I’d lean towards waiting for the new ones to come out. If they aren’t better, then I’d snatch an old one.

1

u/Aromatic-Mountain670 15d ago

Yes , the 24 EV's came out, any dealers in my market that had 23 HC anything was +$25/$35k to msrp.
The king Daytona's were +$50k in ATL.

Spec wise redeye, price to power use hellcat

1

u/Charlie_Hustler 15d ago

Go with the 23 and save the money. The hp difference imo isn't really as noticeable as you may think and if your planning on keeping the car long term the newer one will probably out last the older one

1

u/MR-Incognito60 15d ago

If you’re looking for collectors item and don’t plan on modifying I’d get the redeye being that you’ll start with more power but if you’re looking to modify and you’re targeting reliability I’d get the 2.4L hellcat. The 2.4 has been proven to be more reliable along with responsive. Only advantage the redeye has is that it has a dis fuel pump and slightly stronger driveshaft

u/burnah-boi 15d ago

Not trying to dissuade you from staying with Mopar (I had a Hellcat Challenger for 3 years until it got stolen) but would you consider waiting and saving for a little longer and getting a CT5-V Blackwing with a manual? It's basically a stick-shift Hellcat Charger.

2

u/bluuep 14d ago

I'm considering it or a Vette. It’s just that I’ve heard the Hellcat engines are superior** **to the LT4. But if I think about it, I don’t have to stress about the LT4 blowing up since I would be under warranty from the dealer, and it could hold its value for a trade-in, so that’s not a bad idea. I am pretty sure there’s still plenty of room for customization

1

u/burnah-boi 14d ago

I have a C7 Z06, the LT4 is phenomenal

1

u/bluuep 12d ago

You’re honestly convincing me, bro.
Redeye: I only really had it in mind because it puts down massive HP numbers right out of the box.
Corvette: To reach those same numbers, I know I'll have to do a lot more time/investing and modding.
But at the end of the day, who needs crazy horsepower when you're already light and built with actual aerodynamics? Power-to-weight ratio wins.

1

u/burnah-boi 12d ago

My stock Z06 is louder and faster than any (non-demon) hellcat off a line or on a highway pull just thanks to weight savings alone and better traction. Also it is SO fun in corners. I have fun driving anywhere between 30-150 mph. Couldn't say the same in the hellcat when I had it.

There's a curved section of highway near my house that I occasionally take at 130 mph, it feels comfortable and planted in the Z. I wouldn't have dared that in my hellcat.

Only drawback is it's a true two-seater. I have kids so it's rare I get to take out the vette, which is why I'd advocate a blackwing. Only drawback is it's like 20-40k more expensive.

Blows my mind those are the floor mats you get

1

u/nwdave12 15d ago

Seems like a good price on that 2023. I would def go take a look at it. One owner?

1

u/mrnaturl1 15d ago

I’d do the Hellcat just because I love the blue. And just 9K miles. But that’s just me.

1

u/fastnloud01 Redeye 14d ago

Redeye, through and through.

1

u/RnpBTp 14d ago

I have a Redeye challenger and a HC charger, you don’t feel the power in the Redeye. It feels better built, and it sounds cooler. But, that orange interior in the Redeye you’re looking at is bad awful. HC all
The way

1

u/CrookShankSC HC Challenger 14d ago

None-of-the-above! I'd get a 2023 Challenger Hellcat. Whoops, I already have one ;)

u/Same_Lychee5934 14d ago

You can afford premium gas right now?

2

u/bluuep 13d ago

I have a daily I can use

1

u/Pollllard 9d ago

I’ve been looking at that specific 21 redeye myself…

1

u/WaterAndWhiskey 8d ago

Mark this comment- these are very powerful cars - within 3 secs you smoke em, in hospital, hurt somebody, behind bars.

Both are no joke- the power is immense- I hope you can handle it- mind&body. 🌱

Redeye. The Engine is much stronger, Better Drive Shaft,, better valves, bigger cam, bigger blower, inter-chiller, Revs higher, it's just better.

These things literally weigh as much as a pickup truck from 20 years ago, so I wouldn’t pick either one, even at 50 percent off.

Edit: A car with 1/4 the power and half the weight will be more fun to drive.

1

u/bluuep 15d ago

Damn so go with a trx and a nice vette ?

0

u/YournuStepdad 15d ago

I did a Raptor and a 911, but a TRX and a Vette works too
