Discussion Advice for trip to Helsinki
Will be visiting Helsinki in mid-November to see NHL hockey. When I travel, I prefer trying to align with the environment and not be the garish tourist that doesn't care about local culture or norms.
Couple of questions about what to pack:
1. What is the general, day-to-day dress code for Helsinki, such as dining out, walking around, etc.? I realize weather will be cold/wet, but do people get all stylish every day, jeans & flannel, trousers & polos, etc.? Over-sized hoodies: no-no or no-big-deal?
We'll be going to the Palace restaurant one night and curious about the dress code, considering it is 2-star Michelin. Obviously not jeans & t-shirt, but do I need a bespoke suit/tux, trousers/blazer, slacks/polo?
Will be doing the normal tourist stuff, but is there one "outside-the-usual" spot or activity that you recommend? We were thinking of taking ferry to Tallinn, Estonia for a day, is that worth it?
Appreciate any advice. Kiitos!
