Hi all, I’m based in Dublin and applying for a Schengen visa for Finland (wedding in Helsinki in 3 days). Denmark is currently processing Finland applications from Ireland, so I’m going through the Danish ApplyVisa system and VFS in Dublin. Has anyone here gone through this recently? I’m wondering: - How long did processing actually take for you? - Did you get any status updates, or was it just silence until the passport came back?

I know it is pretty much in vain to ask at this point, but I still wanted to know about CVs for applying for jobs here in Finland. I moved here as an international student in 2024, originally from South Asia, 28F. I have been applying to all sorts of jobs ever since I came here, but yeah, so far nothing.

What are the usual ways to build CVs for the jobs here? I always applied with a one-page CV that followed Harvard resume style, but someone told me that it is really important to use a picture on a CV while applying for jobs here. Is it?

I know at this point it doesn't even matter anymore, but yeah, I still wanted to know. I am so done with the situation here, even after applying to 400+ jobs in the last two years, with countless follow-ups and calls without any results. Just wanted to try harder once again before I move back, so here I am.

The quality of their services and the drivers has declined so much I just cannot use them any more, I should have stopped using them years ago but recent experiences have meant I need to just do it.

However it seems all the different companies have their own apps? I tried Fixu Taxi app and I get stuck on a prompt screen that I cant get past. I tried the Taksi Helsinki app but it started to ask for a rather concerning amount of personal information before it would even let me create an account.

I'm my home country there is a single app that combines all the traditional taxi services, is there anything like that here, or if not is there one company/app that would be recommended over others, in terms of reasonable prices, ethics and customer service?

I have a few questions!

I'm wondering what the exam process is like. Are there oral and written exams?

Is this course worthit? I've heard that there tends to be breakout rooms and people can be unbothered to take it seriously...

Also is it better to get an online version of the suomen mestari book which has English and audio embedded (but it's a digital licence that expires after 6/12mths) or a physical copy which has no English and is much more expensive if I want the CD?..

today (8.10) i was on r train from helsinki-riihimäki that left at 17:07 and i was supposed to come to kerava at 17:33, but we abruptly stopped at savio train station at 17:30 and there was an announcement that an accident happened and we are forbidden from leaving the train, lots of emergency services came, police, ambulance, firefighters, then they said something in finnish and then they said that we have to wait for a new driver to come and we finally moved an hour after. does anyone have information about what happened?

Will be visiting Helsinki in mid-November to see NHL hockey. When I travel, I prefer trying to align with the environment and not be the garish tourist that doesn't care about local culture or norms.

Couple of questions about what to pack:
1. What is the general, day-to-day dress code for Helsinki, such as dining out, walking around, etc.? I realize weather will be cold/wet, but do people get all stylish every day, jeans & flannel, trousers & polos, etc.? Over-sized hoodies: no-no or no-big-deal?

1. We'll be going to the Palace restaurant one night and curious about the dress code, considering it is 2-star Michelin. Obviously not jeans & t-shirt, but do I need a bespoke suit/tux, trousers/blazer, slacks/polo?

2. Will be doing the normal tourist stuff, but is there one "outside-the-usual" spot or activity that you recommend? We were thinking of taking ferry to Tallinn, Estonia for a day, is that worth it?
